‘He got a slew of unhinged texts’: Worker shares promotion on LinkedIn. It does not go to plan

Woman talking(l+r), Phone with Linkedin app open(c)

A man shared his promotion on LinkedIn, but it created complications when a co-worker who thought he’d been passed over unfairly sent “a slew of unhinged texts” to the promoted man.

The story comes from therapist and author Amber Wardell (@sensible_amber). The TikTok, which has received more than 321,000 views since going up Saturday, details an encounter she says happened to her husband, whose announcement about moving up the corporate ladder triggered the jealous co-worker.

“Yesterday, my husband announced his promotion on LinkedIn,” she begins. “And within a few hours, he got a slew of unhinged texts from one of his co-workers. This guy started going on and on about how he is more competent, more capable, smarter than my husband. It was utterly unfair that my husband got this promotion, and he didn’t.”

But then, a twist: “And when he asked my husband why he got the promotion, my husband said, ‘Hey, didn’t you make that huge mistake with one of our clients a few weeks ago, and we lost the deal? And not only was I not the one who lost that deal, but I also was the one who stuck up for you and tried to make sure that you didn’t get in any more trouble than you had to be.'”

“And to this,” she reveals, “this guy called my husband a d*ck. My d*ck husband, who tried to help this guy not get in trouble.”

Then, she observes, “Let this be a reminder that somewhere out there, the most dysregulated person you know is telling themselves and everyone else that you are the problem.”

“A tree is known by its fruit,” she declares. “My husband is known for who he is and what he’s like. And that guy is known for what he is and what he’s like.”

@sensible_amber Let those dysregulated people continue their path to their own idea of happiness and peace. You pursue yours, and wish them well. The path they’re on is going to be hard enough. #selflove #selfcare #emotionregulation #dysregulation #dysregulated #toxic #therapy #healing #healingjourney #letthem #pursuitofhappiness #protectyourpeace ♬ original sound – Amber Wardell

On the Crucial Learning site, author David Maxfield gave advice about “What To Do When You Think a Coworker Resents Your Promotion.” He offered a few different steps, including to “examine your story” in order “to help you see the bigger picture and to examine the facts from all perspectives” and to” increase your empathy and understanding” for the resentful co-worker. Another step he offers is to try to find a “mutual purpose” that helps both you and your co-worker reach a collectively-held goal and to meet with the person.

A Forbes article on the topic predicted, “Your coworkers’ negative emotions will pass. Within a few months most of them will have forgotten that your promotion made them upset. The more you ignore the comments and focus on your own path, the faster that settling-down of the waves will happen!”

Wardell, in a portion of the TikTok video, talked about how her husband checked in with her and some of his close friends to affirm that it was the co-worker’s behavior, not his, that was unusual.

Commenters were amazed by what they saw in the TikTok video.

“Ok, but I need that part about the most dysregulated person you know to be a sound,” one offered.

Another observed, “Agreed and even despite that dude’s mistake the fact that he complained and called out his promotion is an example of why he didn’t get promoted.”

Someone else shared, “An old coworker (who’d been promoted 6 months prior) told me she cried the whole weekend because I’d gotten promoted.”

Another contributed, “I got promoted yesterday and have only told a couple close friends. People are crazy.”

One saw an opportunity for HR to step in, noting, “Those texts should be shared with his HR to protect himself.”

The creator—whom the Daily Dot has reached out to via email—noted that her husband had contacted HR, but they weren’t sure what would come of it.

One hazarded a guess, saying, “By the sounds of it, the business will be thrilled to have a(nother) reason to let this dude go.”

While most of the focus this weekend will be on the Final Four action in Glendale and Cleveland, respectively, it’s also a big weekend in the basketball world because the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame Class of 2024 will be officially announced. During NBA All-Star Weekend, the 14 finalists were announced, with the biggest names on the NBA side being Vince Carter and Chauncey Billups getting a chance to go in the Hall.

On Wednesday, Shams Charania reported what most assumed when the finalists were announced, which is that those two players will headline this year’s Hall of Fame class.

Carter was an 8-time All-Star, with two All-NBA nods, and finished 21st on the NBA’s all-time scoring list after playing an NBA-record 22 seasons. He was also part of the gold medal winning USA Basketball team in 2000, authoring one of the greatest in-game dunks of all-time. Billups, meanwhile, won the 2004 NBA title with the Pistons and made his way onto five All-Star teams and three All-NBA squads, playing 17 total seasons in the league.

We’ll learn the rest of this year’s Hall of Fame class over the weekend, with Seimone Augustus, Michael Cooper, and others hoping to hear their name called along with Carter and Billups to be enshrined in Springfield.

Why Was A ‘3 Body Problem’ Producer Poisoned And Killed?

3 Body Problem
Netflix

The new Netflix series 3 Body Problem centers around a terrifying alien invasion of Earth that’s been hundreds of years in the making. However, behind the scenes, a terrifying real-life story unfolded and ended with one man dead and several poisoned in a revenge plot over the high-stakes dealings of the burgeoning sci-fi franchise.

In 2014, China’s “millennial billionaire” and Yoozoo Games founder Lin Qi snatched up the rights to Liu Cixin’s Remembrance of Earth’s Past book trilogy that kicks off with 3 Body Problem. After negotiating a multi-million dollar deal with Netflix to adapt the best-selling series, Lin would die in a hospital on Christmas 2020. The cause of death: poisoning.

Why Was A ‘3 Body Problem’ Producer Poisoned And Killed?

According to Business Insider, the situation started going south at Yoozoo Games in 2017 when Lin hired former lawyer Xu Yao to head up a new division called “The Three-Body Universe.” Turns out, Xu wasn’t the best employee and was demoted three years later for “poor performance.” He also had his pay slashed and retaliated by poisoning his colleagues.

Three months after Lin negotiated the Netflix deal for 3 Body Problem, Xu started poisoning his co-workers’ beverages. While Lin was the only one who died, four others were hospitalized with symptoms of poisoning. Xu was arrested three days after Lin’s death and is set to be executed for his crimes.

With 3 Body Problem now streaming on Netflix, Lin has been posthumously credited as an executive producer on the series.

Billie Eilish Has Apparently Started Teasing New Music As Fans Spot Cryptic Billboards Around The Globe

It seems Billie Eilish just might be gearing up to start the cycle for her next album. Fans online have spotted billboards in major cities around the globe that seem to tease lyrics for a new song — as they also have her logo. So far, they can be spotted in New York, Los Angeles, and Sydney, according to NME.

“She’s the headlights / I’m the deer,” one reads. Others have “Did I cross the line?,” “I try to live in black and white,” “But I’m so blue,” and “Man I’m the greatest” on them, which are likely lyrics to a new song or songs of Eilish’s.

It’s also worth noting that over the past few months, Eilish has suggested that whatever she has in store is practically finished. “At some point, you will know more, but I’m not going to say anything else,” she shared during a December appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

In February, she then made an Instagram post confirming that the new album was “mastered,” meaning it very well could drop at any point this year. Given Eilish’s last release was back in 2021, it has also been a few years and fans have been waiting to hear more.

Check out some pictures of what are apparently Billie Eilish’s new music teaser billboards below.

35 Beauty Items That Must Be Magic

According to the Cleveland Clinic, some researchers have found rosemary oil to be as effective at encouraging hair growth as Rogaine! And read more about how biotin could help with the fullness of hair at Cleveland Clinic.

Promising reviews: “Legit magic in a bottle. Wish I could order this stuff by the gallon. Took a chance on this because I was desperate, having already spent so much money on luxury and drugstore products with little results. I use this as a pre-treatment on scalp and ends before I wash hair. Scalp has improved dramatically. I feel like there’s not as much breakage/fallout, and my ends are fuller. (This is after like six months, but my scalp was better immediately.)” —Claire Blanchard

“I hardly write reviews.. but this one deserves to be written about!! My hair was falling out a LOT, and somehow just with the FIRST application onwards, I started seeing less fall. And now, after four months, I can see hair growth as well, and my hair is already looking thicker!! And I’ve been using it only once a week.. just a few drops and massaging in. Omg, how can anything be so simple and yet so effective!!! Amazing! Amazing!!! Whoever invented this.. hats off!!” —Dee

Will ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’ End The Same Way As ‘Seinfeld’?

'Curb Your Enthusiasm' 1201 Larry David
MAX

How long has Curb Your Enthusiasm been on HBO? It premiered nearly a year before 9/11. Even weirder: the first episode came only two years after the series finale of Seinfeld, which everyone famously loved. Is Muppet attacker Larry David setting up the Curb finale (which airs this Sunday) to essentially re-do the last episode of Seinfeld?

Our own Jason Tabrys made the case for why that could happen in February, but since then, there’s been even more evidence suggesting that Curb could end in a similar fashion as Seinfeld, with the main character(s) in jail.

Curb viewers sure seem to think it will:

Speaking about the reaction to the Seinfeld finale to The B.S. Report in 2014, David said, “I got so much grief from the Seinfeld finale, which a lot of people intensely disliked, that I no longer feel a need to wrap things up… I wouldn’t say I’m mad about it, but it taught me a lesson that if I ever did another show, I wasn’t going to wrap it up.” David doesn’t think people hated the episode; instead, “They were disappointed. A lot of people were disappointed… I think people just didn’t like the fact that they wound up in jail, you know?”

It would be a Larry David move to do it all over again.

The Curb Your Enthusiasm series finale airs this Sunday, April 7, on HBO and Max at 10 p.m. EST.

Why Did ‘Rent’ Close on Broadway in 2008? What to Know

‘Rent’s’ reimagined performance by Deaf Broadway came 16 years after gave its final curtain call on Broadway in 2008.

In New York City, the ’80s and ’90s eras were consumed by grit, fear, and loss. At the time, the HIV/AIDS epidemic had begun being ignored by many due to it taking the lives of countless people within the LGBTQIA+ community.

Amid the real-life tragedies affecting the world at the time, Jonathan Larson wrote the book for the musical before dying of an aortic aneurysm the day of Rent‘s off-Broadway debut.

Rent became a massive hit and soon found its home at the Nederlander Theatre on Broadway.

Additionally, it spawned stars like Taye Diggs, Idina Menzel, and Jesse L. Martin, and a 2005 movie and Broadway taping to boot.

Though Broadway shows are ever-changing, Rent had maintained its star power before it closed its curtains in 2008.

In 2024, the show returned to the Great White Way for a reimagined version of the cult classic. Still, many need help figuring out why Rent ever closed on Broadway in the first place.

Why did ‘Rent’ leave Broadway?

Rent opened on Broadway on April 29, 1996, with Idina, Taye, Jesse, Anthony Rapp, Adam Pascal, Fredi Walker Browne, Daphne Rubin Vega, and Wilson Jermaine Heredia rounding out the main original Broadway cast. The show remained at the Nederlander for 12 years, debuting a total of 5,124 shows and changing the face of Broadway forever.

In addition to the show being held at one of the most scoffed-at houses on Broadway, Rent stood out for giving out same-day $20 front-row tickets to accommodate the young, frugal creatives who lived similarly to Jonathan. The $20 tickets later became a lottery synonymous with catching Rent live. Despite the success, Rent‘s final show occurred on Sept. 7, 2008, to its fans’ dismay.

In a 2008 write-up about the closing on Today, they stated Rent, like many other Broadway hits like Cats, “have a finite life, a beginning and, no matter how successful, an end.” The show had also been competing with other successful shows then, including Wicked, The Lion King, and Legally Blonde: The Musical (don’t act like you weren’t seated for the Legally Blonde taping on MTV!). Nonetheless, one of Rent‘s producers, Allan S. Gordon, declared the closing wasn’t “the end of Rent” and hinted at a revival.

Rent is recorded for history, so it’s not like it’s disappearing off the map,” he said. “Hmmm, maybe I should bring back a revival next year.”

Deaf Broadway revived ‘Rent’ with an ASL-centered show in New York City.

Sixteen years after Rent closed its doors on Broadway, the show received the revival Allan S. Gordon previously manifested. In March 2024, HuffPost reported Rent‘s return to the stage through Deaf Broadway‘s one-night performance.

The show debuted on Monday, April 1, 2024, and featured an entire cast of deaf performers from the New York theater group, including Only Murders in the Building actor James Caverly in the lead role of Mark Cohen.

Deaf Broadway’s “groundbreaking iteration” of Rent was the brainchild of the theater group’s artistic director, Garrett Zuercher. Garrett, who identifies as a gay and deaf man, said he was honored to center deaf performers and prove that “deaf people can lead,” and said the cast was “proving the rest of the industry wrong” through their take on the iconic show.

“One big thing about Rent is that ― in this world that Jonathan Larson created ― if you’re different, it’s OK,” the producer told HuffPost. “These people, these characters, love and support each other. They celebrate who they are, and that’s exactly what I was looking for.”

While Deaf Broadway’s production of Rent was only for one night, Garrett said he was “hopeful” there would be more. I personally will take as many “Viva La Vie Boheme’s” as possible, please, and thanks!

Glass Animals Announced Their Fourth Album, ‘I Love You So F***ng Much’ And Shared Their New Single, ‘Creatures In Heaven’

Glass Animals is back. Today (April 3), the band has announced their new album, I Love You So F*cking Much, which is set to arrive this summer. Ahead of the album, Glass Animals has shared their new single, “Creatures In Heaven.”

On the spacey “Creatures In Heaven,” lead vocalist Dave Bayley looks back on a past relationship — but with fondness, not regret or bitterness.

“I don’t think I realize / Just how much I miss you sometimes / We were young and so in love / We were just creatures in heaven,” sings Bayley on the chorus.

The band’s upcoming album was born by way of an existential crisis Bayley was experience during the COVID-19 pandemic. While the world was locked down, the band’s 2020 song “Heat Waves” had propelled the band into newfound stardom. I Love You So F*cking Much centers around a space odyssey theme, as Bayley and the boys navigate the chaos.

“I love you so f*cking much, I LOVE YOU SO F*CKING MUCH, I love you SO f*cking MUCH, I love you so F*CKING much, I LOVE you so f*cking MUCH. These words take on a different meaning every time you say them,” said Bayley in a statement. “The universe may make us feel overwhelmingly small, but we have this human connection that is far vaster and more mysterious. Love comes in an infinite number of forms and shapes and sizes. It is so complex, and so powerful that even witnessing the tiniest instance of it can change your life forever.”

You can listen to “Creatures In Heaven” above and see the I Love You So F*cking Much artwork and tracklist below.
