‘Walmart could pull this off’: Cake shop owner takes late call from customer—and can’t believe what she asks for

Woman talking into phone(l+r), Walmart(c)

When working a public-facing job, one would inevitably encounter a rude customer or two on at least a weekly basis. TikTok user Cassie (@thugmomog), who owns a bakery called Love + Flour, shared how she dealt with such a customer in a TikTok that’s been viewed over 14 million times.

Cassie’s husband filmed the cake shop owner while she was on the phone with a customer. “You were over a half an hour late, and it’s past 9 o’clock at night,” Cassie said, rubbing her eyes as she sat in bed. “I cannot help you.”

The interaction escalated quickly, as customer gave an entitled response. “You realize that I am the one with the money, right? And you’re not. I am the one that’s hiring you,” the customer said.

“Ma’am, that was incredibly rude. I don’t know who you think you are, but I’m trying very hard to remain professional,” Cassie replied.

“I need this cake for 120 tomorrow. I need to have this done. It needs to be taken care of,” the customer responded, standing her ground.

Cassie attempted to offer different places the woman could go, but the woman responded by name-calling Cassie. “[Expletive], Walmart could pull this off,” she said.

This caught Cassie off guard and left her appalled. “I’m so sorry, did you say [expletive]?” she asked.

The customer confirmed that she did. “The only [expletive] here is you because you sat here and basically made fun of the fact that everybody else on the planet doesn’t have any … money but you,” Cassie retorted angrily. “I’ve got sh*t to do. Do you understand me? And it’s not to make a cake for you.”

“Go [expletive] yourself,” Cassie added.

Cassie expressed her feelings in the caption. “I blacked out. As a business owner, do all you can to not let them get you emotional. However, I do match the vibe and being a entrepreneur doesn’t make any of us a door mat.  i’m not perfect but,” she wrote.

@thugmomog I blacked out. As a business owner, do all you can to not let them get you emotional. Cassie declined the Daily Dot’s request for comment. In the comments section, viewers praised her for standing up to the rude customer.

“That scratched an itch for me, I have always wanted to talk to rude customers that way. Thank you!” one viewer applauded.

“We gotta normalize businesses sticking up for themselves. Some customers are just UNHINGED,” a second wrote.

In addition, others encouraged the customer to go to Walmart instead.

“Wal Mart could pull this off – THEN GO TO WAL MART,” one user remarked.

“Walmart can pull it off? Then go to Walmart!!! You did what needed to be done,” a second echoed.

In a follow-up video, Cassie spoke to the woman on the phone about Cassie’s TikTok. “Well, I know you’re not going to take the video down, so I humbly apologize if I came off as entitled or rude like people stated I did,” the woman said over the phone.

The bakery owner told the woman she would not take the video down since she didn’t identify the woman nor is the woman being harassed over it. “I do think that it’s vital that people understand that it’s not cool to treat people like this,” she said.

The woman, seemingly missing the point, said, “I mean, I still think you could’ve taken my order because the money.”

“I just think you could’ve made it happen if you wanted to,” the woman later told Cassie after Cassie explained how the order would’ve been impossible to fulfill.

Ultimately, they agreed they couldn’t work with each other, and the customer hung up prematurely on Cassie.

Wisconsin bans private funding of elections after Mark Zuckerberg dropped $10 million in 2020

Mark Zuckerberg in front of voting ballot box

In 2020, Meta and Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg donated over $10 million to local election offices in Wisconsin struggling during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Four years later, Wisconsin voters approved an amendment to the state’s constitution that bans private funding for election administration.

Wisconsin joined 27 other states that have limited or banned private funding for local election offices.

Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan’s philanthropic organization Chan Zuckerberg donated approximately $350 million to state election offices all across the country in 2020, as costs were expected to rise with the increase in mail-in ballots thanks to the pandemic. The move was met with immense conservative pushback—at the time, Thomas More Society, a right-wing legal group, filed a lawsuit against Chan Zuckerberg in eight states, including Wisconsin.

Conservative lawmakers dubbed the donations “Zuckerbucks” and accused him and others in big tech of using the money to steer the 2020 election to Biden.

In 2022, a Wisconsin judge upheld that the election grants were legal after state conservative lawmakers tried to pass a ban on them. But Wisconsin Republicans finally got their way when they got two ballot measures in front of voters yesterday, which both passed. The first amends the state constitution to ban private money to fund election administration.

The other orders that only election officials can conduct elections, pushed in response to debunked claims that a Democratic activist tampered with Wisconsin’s 2020 election results.

The Wisconsin GOP celebrated its victory on X yesterday evening.

“Goodbye, Zuckerbucks!” it tweeted. “Wisconsin has voted YES on Questions 1 & 2.”

In a statement, the state’s GOP chairman, Brian Schimming, said “elections belong to voters, not out-of-state billionaires.”

“Victory! Wisconsin has spoken and the message is clear,” Schimming said. “Thanks to the efforts by the Republican Party of Wisconsin and grassroots organizing, Wisconsinites have turned the page on Zuckerbucks and secured our elections from dark money donors.”

Other prominent digital GOP figures celebrated the state Republicans’ victory, too.

“In 2020, Zuckerberg funneled $400m to fund election officials in swing states,” @EndWokeness tweeted alongside the Associated Press’ election results for one of the ballot measures. “Tonight, Wisconsin voted to ban it from ever happening again in their state.”

Federal lawmakers seem to agree with Wisconsin and other states that private funding shouldn’t be bankrolling local election administration, Roll Call reported in February, but have struggled on how to address funding.

You’ll Never Guess Who Donald Trump Wanted To Replace Him As The Host Of ‘The Apprentice’ (You Can Probably Guess)

Donald Trump hosted 14 seasons of The Apprentice, including seven seasons of The Celebrity Apprentice. When he finally left the reality show (a.k.a. was fired for making “derogatory statements”), he had only one pick to replace him: his daughter, Tiffany. JK, it’s never Tiffany. It was Ivanka.

In author Ramin Setoodeh’s new book, Apprentice in Wonderland: How Donald Trump and Mark Burnett Took America Through the Looking Glass, the former president revealed that he wanted for NBC to swap one Trump for another. “I said, ‘The best person to hire would be Ivanka Trump.’ I didn’t press it,” he said. “But I felt Ivanka would have been by far the best person you could hire.”

Variety has more:

As part of Trump’s pitch for an Ivanka version of The Apprentice, Eric and Don Trump Jr. would have joined their sister on TV as boardroom advisers. The trio had been a regular presence on the show for years, appearing by their father’s side in later seasons to help him evaluate the contestants.

“It was going to be the three of us,” Eric Trump says in the book. “There were talks for a little while about it.”

Trump’s suggestion didn’t go over well. “NBC didn’t like it, because it became like a family thing,” he said. “But I said, ‘There’s nobody you’re going to hire that will come even close to Ivanka.’ They said, ‘Huh…’ And then they came back with Arnold Schwarzenegger.” This was the first time that Schwarzenegger and Trump were at odds with each other, but not the last.

Matilda Ledger, Daughter of Heath Ledger and Michelle Williams, is 18

“When you’re a single parent, and that element of provider and protection is missing, it’s scary.”

Believe it or not, Matilda Rose Ledger, the daughter of award winning actors Heath Ledger and Michelle Williams, is now a legal adult. When her father Heath passed away in 2008, she was only two-years-old.

You may not know the co-stars of Brokeback Mountain even had a kid. Though their relationship was tabloid fodder for the duration of their union, both performers did their best to keep their daughter out of the spotlight. That heightened after Heath’s death.

Matilda Ledger is not a nepo baby

Mother Michelle has kept daughter Matilda out of the spotlight. In a July 2017 cover story with Vanity Fair, the actress said, “When you’re a single parent, and that element of provider and protection is missing, it’s scary.”

Michelle also spoke about the importance of keeping Matilda’s day-to-day life consistent, something most every parent can understand. When Michlle and Matilda moved back to Brooklyn for the school years after spending the six years following Heath’s death in upstate New York, the actress said, “She hasn’t had her routine disrupted and hasn’t missed class.”

Matilda had a father figure in ‘Succession’s’ Jeremy Strong

In a May 10, 2022 cover story in Variety, Michelle spoke about how important actor Jeremy Strong was in Matilda’s life. The two actors became friends in 2004 and Jeremy moved in, along with Michelle’s sister and another friend, after Heath’s passing.

Michelle told the magazine, “Jeremy was serious enough to hold the weight of a child’s broken heart and sensitive enough to understand how to approach her through play and games and silliness. [Matilda] didn’t grow up with her father, but she grew up with her Jeremy and we were changed by his ability to play as though his life depended upon it, because hers did.”

While support is good, it doesn’t make up for missing a father. In the Winter 2016 cover story for Porter, Michelle said, “In all honesty, for pretty much everything else, I feel like I’m a believer in not fighting circumstances, accepting where you are and where you’ve been. In pretty much all senses but one, I would be able to go totally down that line of thinking were it not for Matilda not having her dad. You know, that’s just something that doesn’t… I mean, it just won’t ever be right.”

Michelle recently turned 18-years-old.

According to New Idea, Matilda spent her 18th birthday in a familiar place, in rural upstate New York with mom and friends. Michelle moved them there soon after Heath’s passing.

The Australian weekly magazine also points out that now that Michelle is 18, she’s the legal owner of the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award Heath won posthumously his performance in The Dark Knight. The statuette has been on display at the Western Australian Museum in Perth.

Matilda is now an older sister.

Matilda’s mom married theater and television director and television executive producer Thomas Kail in 2020. They met in 2018 while working on Fosse/Verdon, her acting and him directing and producing. They’ve also produced two children, Hart, in 2020 and a sibling in 2022.

Red Bull Summer Edition Curuba Elderflower

Every year, Red Bull has a different Summer Edition flavor for customers to try for a limited time.

Red Bull Summer Edition Curuba Elderflower

No matter how old I get, coffee just doesn’t do it for me. Luckily, energy drinks are probably never going out of style, and I’ll be the first to admit that I start my morning off with enough caffeine to keep me going for the day. Well, for most of it, anyway. And we tried the new Red Bull Summer Edition Curuba Elderflower to see if it can be part of the morning routine too.

Article continues below advertisement

Red Bull has been in the energy drink game far longer than most brands can say they have. And for those who are especially dedicated to having a Red Bull or two a day, it’s hard not to get excited about a new flavor. Even if it is here for a limited time. So before this one flies off the shelves (not literally, despite the whole Red Bull giving you wings thing), we have details on how it tastes.

We tried Red Bull Summer Edition Curuba Elderflower.

Right off the bat, Red Bull Summer Edition Curuba Elderflower has a strong berry flavor to it. Even if that wasn’t the intention with the combination of flavors mixed in the iconic skinny green can, that’s the immediate flavor. There’s a bit of a tart aftertaste too, which honestly isn’t bad, but a little more of that in the initial flavor would be even better.

According to the press release for Red Bull Summer Edition Curuba Elderflower, it “delivers the benefits of Red Bull Energy Drink with a burst of curuba, citrus, melon, and an elderflower finish.” The melon is definitely stronger than the citrus flavor, but that’s not a bad thing where I’m concerned. I’m just partial to drinks that are heavy on any tart flavors.

With 110 calories and 80 mg of caffeine in my 8.4-ounce can, Red Bull Summer Edition Curuba Elderflower might not be my daily go-to energy drink. However, when compared to the standard Red Bull taste most of us know well, this one offers something much more fruity and flavorful.

Red Bull even has a mocktail recipe for this particular flavor that includes watermelon juice, pineapple juice, and a few other ingredients. But you’re welcome to try the Red Bull flavor on its own too, of course.

Where can you buy the 2024 summer Red Bull flavor?

Right now, Red Bull Summer Edition Curuba Elderflower is available at participating Walmart locations, However, starting on April 29, 2024, you can find it at other retailers nationwide. It comes in 8.4-ounce and 12-ounce cans, and they’re available as single servings or in a 4-pack of cans. But get them while you can, because as with all temporary editions of Red Bull, this one is available “while supplies last.”

How Therapy Can Help During Life-Changing Events Like COVID

April 3, 2024 — When the COVID-19 pandemic hit 4 years ago, Jenn Kearney felt extra thankful for her years of therapy.

The 34-year-old digital communications manager from Boston said her 11 years of doing therapy — specifically cognitive behavioral therapy, or CBT – prior to the pandemic had given her skills and “ways to cope and adapt that not only benefited me, but the people around me,” she said.

“I had spent a lot of time working with my therapist on, specifically, managing my anxiety through unexpected incidents,” she said.

That was especially useful when her husband contracted COVID at the end of April 2020.

“I was able to use what I knew about my anxiety to loosen its grip on my thoughts and judgment, to prepare myself in case I contracted it as well,” she said, noting that using affirmations like “This will all work out” helped her, especially when she tested positive for the virus a few days later.

“I was able to recognize when my thought pattern was turning into ‘what ifs.’ I used what I had been working on with my therapist  — making a conscious effort to reflect on what I was thankful for,” like the fact neither she nor her husband required hospital stays, no one else in their family was sick, and the couple “had the ability to rest and look after each other.” That mindset kept Kearney’s anxiety in check.

It’s no surprise that the COVID-19 pandemic caused worldwide emotional upheaval. A report from the World Health Organization found that anxiety and depression increased globally by a staggering 25% during its first year. But a new study found that people  diagnosed with anxiety who received two widely available forms of therapy experienced less stress than others during the pandemic, even during the toughest days of lockdown.

Researchers at McLean Hospital/Harvard Medical School followed 764 outpatients with moderate anxiety. These patients had received one of two treatments: cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) or dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT). CBT is a form of talk therapy that emphasizes the power one’s thoughts can have on their feelings. DBT helps patients identify thought patterns that may cause distress

The patients were organized into four groups: those who began treatment before Dec. 31, 2019; those who began treatment between Jan. 1, 2020, and March 31, 2020; those who began treatment between April 1, 2020, and Dec. 31, 2020; and those who began treatment from Jan. 1, 2021, onward. (The WHO declared COVID-19 a pandemic on March 11, 2020.)

The researchers expected to find that the stressors caused by peak points during lockdown — specifically from March 2020 to July 2020 — would cause worsening of these patients’ anxiety.

Rather, they found that patients who started CBT or DBT prior to the start of the pandemic had decreased symptoms of anxiety. The researchers found that CBT and DBT gave these patients served as a protective effect. This means patients demonstrated fewer symptoms related to anxiety than many people who never had anxiety at all but who were feeling the stress of lockdown.

What’s more, CBT or DBT started at any time can help many people build the same resilience so that major world events or personal upheaval will not cause them to experience worsening of their mental health, the researchers said.

“I was surprised by how robust the intervention was,” said lead study author David H. Rosmarin, PhD, a clinical psychologist at McLean Hospital in Belmont, MA, and associate professor of psychology at Harvard Medical School in Cambridge. “Yet with CBT and DBT, we really teach people not to be afraid of anxiety. Anxiety will not kill you, even though it feels like death to some patients. We’ve been conditioned to fear anxiety, but what we really need to do is to increase our tolerance of uncertainty.”

As the patients in the study progressed through treatment, they began to demonstrate this resilience.

“Patients felt more prepared tolerating COVID-related anxiety as they became comfortable being less prepared,” said Henry J. Eff, PsyD, supervising psychologist at the Center for Anxiety in Brooklyn, NY, where patients in the study were seen. “Those who experienced higher levels of anxiety prior to the pandemic, but who were taught CBT and DBT skills, felt better equipped to manage, and more importantly, tolerate, COVID’s uncertainty.”

Read on to better understand anxiety and how this groundbreaking research can be used preventatively to improve quality of life during unexpected times of crisis but also in in everyday life.

What are the symptoms of anxiety?

Signs of anxiety typically include nervousness, tension, restlessness, a fast heartbeat, and breathing faster. Sweating, shaking, fatigue, having a hard time concentrating, digestive issues, and trouble sleeping may also be symptoms. You can read more about anxiety here

How does CBT help manage anxiety?

In a nutshell, CBT can help build your “toolbox” for when feelings of anxiety hit.

CBT helps change the ways a patient thinks that are not helpful.  By recognizing that your thoughts affect your actions, you gain a sense of control and can make choices that help you respond better to the stresses in your life that make you anxious.

CBT also helps you build emotional strength because it helps you face and overcome challenges.

“CBT is like going to the gym for your emotions,” Rosemarin said.

How does DBT help manage anxiety?

DBT, on the other hand, focuses on acceptance to bring a sense of control to those experiencing powerful feelings.

“DBT can help us manage the intense emotions we experience with anxiety,” said Eff. For example, during the pandemic, “We worked with patients on accepting the realities of COVID: isolation, worry for our loved ones, and complete disarray of normal activity. Accepting this unfortunate situation enables better coping and reduces suffering.”

Can Anxiety Sometimes Be Positive?

The energy that anxiety produces can be used as a powerful motivator — a great tool to push you toward accomplishing whatever you want.

“It can feel counterintuitive to push through anxiety and feel your feelings. We think of anxiety as something we need to get rid of, but anxiety can be a catalyst to things like change,” Rosemarin said. “Anxiety can be utilized; it can be used as a tool.”

The key is to manage the amount of anxiety you feel.

“You typically don’t turn the dial of a stove all the way up or your food will burn,” explained Eff. “However, turn it off completely, and your food won’t cook. There are times where the burner — or your anxiety [in this case] — is higher, and that’s OK. Once we can begin to recognize and label our various levels of anxiety, we can better manage it and learn how to use it to our advantage.”

Most people experience some level of anxiety, Rosemarin said. “We don’t want to ignore or suppress it.”

Is CBT or DBT right for you?

If you experience symptoms of anxiety, see your doctor, who can evaluate your overall health. If you’re diagnosed with anxiety, a psychologist can determine whether CBT or DBT can benefit you and get you ready to handle unexpected life events.

As for Kearney, the skills she has gained through therapy have helped her in all aspects of her life, not just during the pandemic.

“I’m a better parent, partner, friend, sibling, daughter, and colleague,” she said. “I’ve learned invaluable communication and coping skills as well as a better understanding of my mind, how it works, and how I can use my unique ways of thinking to my advantage.”

Will Keanu Reeves Be In The New ‘Matrix’ Movie?

matrix 4
warner bros.

Keanu Reeves loves to return to a franchise year after year, as he did with Bill and Ted and John Wick, but one of his most famous roles has to be Neo from 1999’s The Matrix. That’s when Reeves went from stoner musician to action star.

After 2021’s The Matrix Resurrections, it seemed like we were done with Neo & co for good, but Warner Bros has other plans. The studio announced that Drew Goddard has been chosen to write and direct the next phase of the Matrix-verse.

Goddard is known for penning Daredevil for Netflix and writing and directing Bad Times at the El Royale, as well as the cult favorite horror movie Cabin in The Woods. The writer/ director was approached by Warner Bros. to keep the Matrix World running. “Drew came to Warner Bros. with a new idea that we all believe would be an incredible way to continue the Matrix world, by both honoring what Lana and Lilly began over 25-years ago and offering a unique perspective based on his own love of the series and characters,” Warner Bros. Motion Pictures president of production Jesse Ehrman said in a statement. “The entire team at Warner Bros. Discovery is thrilled for Drew to be making his new Matrix film, adding his vision to the cinematic canon the Wachowskis’ spent a quarter of a century building here at the studio.” Lana Wachowski will act as an executive producer on the new installment. But will Reeves return?

It’s not clear if Reeves will return for the installment, though he would likely get a hefty payday if he chooses to throw on that iconic leather duster once again. Reeves reunited with Carrie-Anne Moss for the 2021 installment which also featured Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Jonathan Groff.

In 2021, Reeves said he would only return if Lana was on board. “If she invites me again, I’m in,” he said. Since Wachowski is attached to produce there might be a chance of Neo’s return. But the response to The Matrix Resurrections was so muted that maybe he’ll just stick to John Wick cameos for now.
