Social Media Influencer | Know Your Meme

About

Social Media Influencer is a social media user who has access to a large audience. In the context of influencer marketing, influence is less about argument and coercion to a particular point of view and more about loose interactions between various parties in a community.

Origin

The term influencer has been used as a marketing term before social media.

In 2009, the Federal Trade Commission ruled that influence marketing is treated as a form of paid endorsement, governed under the rules for native advertising; the agency applies established truth-in-advertising standards to such advertising and establishes requirements for disclosure on the part of endorsers (influencers).

Spread

In November 2017, The first program was introduced to study social media influencing at the college level. The main purpose of the initiative is to teach the correct way to use social media, which focuses on quality content and respect for ethical standards. As a result, once the courses are over, the newly formed professionals will receive certification and will be integrated in Condé Nast’s network of social influencers.

On July 31st 2018, Kylie Jenner was reported to make an estimated $1 million per sponsored post on her Instagram, which makes her the highest paid celebrity influencer on the social media platform, according to the 2018 Instagram Rich List compiled by Hopper HQ, an automated Instagram scheduler. Jenner is followed by singer Selena Gomez, who gets $800,000 per sponsored post, and star soccer player Cristiano Ronaldo, who earns $750,000.

Social Media Douchebag

“Social Media Douchebag” (a.k.a New Media Douchebag) is a media stereotype and a derogatory label used to describe someone who ostensibly engages in social networking and other fashionable online activities for self-promotion. The term may also be used to refer to someone who claims to be an expert in social media marketing. Similar to “hipster”, social media douchebag can often be seen as a self-parody phenomenon.

On October 17th, 2007, blogger Kelly Stewart uploaded the video “New Media Douchebags Explained” to YouTube. The video criticized people who work in the emerging social media industry, characterizing them as people who don’t really work and shameless self promoters. The video has accumulated over 148,000 views as of February 2012.

Palessi

On Oct. 27, 2018, The Media Marketing group DCX and low-cost shoe store Payless took over a former Armani store in Santa Monica, California and invited fashion influencers to shop around the “Palessi” pop-up. “Palessi” was a dressed-up version of Payless and convinced influencers that the shoes were high-end as a publicity stunt. The media marketing company DCX created a fake website for “Palessi” and recorded the launch party for the pop-up on Instagram (shown below).

Influencer Mural

Social Media Influencers Mural refers to a piece of street art in Los Angeles in front of which only people with over 20,000 social media followers may be photographed. It is guarded by a security man to enforce this rule. After being discovered in June of 2018, it was criticized and mocked online for being indicative of the ridiculousness of social media culture. The mural appears to be a viral marketing stunt orchestrated by an upcoming television show by the name Like and Subscribe.

On June 25th, 2018, Twitter user and Vice writer Justin Caffer tweeted his discovery of the mural, gaining over 5,300 retweets and 18,000 likes (shown below).

Fyre Festival

Fyre Festival was meant to be an expensive music festival to take place on a private island in Exumas, Bahamas. However, due to poor planning, many performers backed out and attendees who had arrived early were left stranded with little food and shelter, essentially creating a disaster-zone in which fights and looting broke out over resources.
The event was also highly publicized on social media by high-profile models and influencers including Kendall Jenner, Emily Ratajkowski, and Bella Hadid.

A Picturesque Town In Sicily Is Selling Homes For Just Over $1

Looking for a change of scenery? Well, for some pocket change, you can now own a home on southern Italy’s gorgeous island of Sicily.

CNN reports that Sambuca, a hilly village with nearby beaches, has listed dozens of homes on market. The cost of these homes? 1 euro, or just over a dollar.

The goal of the real estate fire sale is to revive a town that’s become severely underpopulated in recent years due to prior residents leaving Sambuca for larger European cities. By luring new residents to the quaint village, officials are also hoping to boost the town’s economy.

Of course, there is a catch. One euro is the actual sale price, but buyers are also required to commit to spending, at minimum, 15,000 euros (around $17,200) in order to renovate the home. The crumbling houses range from 40 to 150 square meters, and if you buy one, it needs to be renovated within three years. You’ll also need to have a 5,000 euro security deposit on hand that will be refunded once the renovation is finished.

Sambuca isn’t the first Italian town to sell off crumbling dwellings at rock-bottom prices. Ollolai, a town on Sardinia, made the news in January 2018 when the mayor announced their intention to sell 200 homes for 1 euro apiece. But Sambuca’s deputy mayor says they’ll be handling the sales differently.

“As opposed to other towns that have merely done this for propaganda, this city hall owns all 1 euro houses on sale,” Giuseppe Cacioppo, the town’s deputy mayor and tourist councilor, told CNN. “We’re not intermediaries who liaise between old and new owners. You want that house, you’ll get it no time.”

And Sambuca certainly sounds like an amazing place to own a home.

“Sambuca is known as the City of Splendor,” he said. “This fertile patch of land is dubbed the Earthly Paradise. We’re located inside a natural reserve, packed with history. Gorgeous beaches, woods and mountains surround us. It’s silent and peaceful, an idyllic retreat for a detox stay.”

'Teen Mom 2' Star Kailyn Lowry Is Still Feuding With Her Mom

image

It’s been a while since Kailyn Lowry‘s mom, Suzi, has appeared on Teen Mom 2 — and now we know why.

It turns out, Kailyn and her mother have not spoken in years, and Kailyn is not sure she’s ready to reach out to Suzi if she is not 100 percent sober. To make matters worse, Kail wouldn’t even know where to begin when it comes to reconnecting with her estranged mom.

So, what happened between Kailyn and her mom?

“I just found that I had to cut my mom off completely,” Kailyn said on her podcast. “Now, I’m not as angry but now I’m starting to like, I don’t know, like my third son just turned 1, and I don’t even know if my mom knows I had a third son. I don’t know where she lives, I don’t have her phone number, nothing. So, I want to start from scratch and reach out to her, my sister.”

image

She went on to explain she hopes to reconnect with her mom so she can have a better relationship with her grandchildren — Isaac, 9, Lincon, 5, Lux, 17 months. “I want it for my kids because when my mom’s sober she’s such a good person,” Kailyn explained. “I want my kids to experience that.”

Recently, Kail revealed that her mom and her extended family did not show up to Lux’s birthday party, telling her podcast listeners, “Like nobody, not even my extended family came… I was like, ‘I don’t have a family.’ My sister didn’t come, my mom didn’t come; I don’t even have a dad…My third son just turned one and, my mom, I haven’t heard from her. I’m kind of in my feelings about it….”

Fans of the MTV reality series will remember that when Kailyn got pregnant with her first child in 2009, her mom signed over her parental rights to Jo Rivera’s parents. “Right before that, she was sober for about nine months,” Kail said. “That’s the longest she’s ever been sober. But, my mom has always relied on a spouse.”

image

Sobriety continues to be a sticking point for Kailyn, and the 26-year-old revealed she last spoke to her mom was when her middle son, Lincoln, was six months old. “There was a time where I left Lincoln with her,” Kail added. “When I came back, she was so f–ked up.”

When Kailyn asked her co-star Tyler Baltierra how he has forgiven his father, who has also struggled with sobriety, he suggested she work on herself and to remind herself that addiction is a disease. However, Kailyn admits that is hard for her to do. “I have a really hard time with that,” she explained. “I don’t have any sympathy or empathy or whatever you want to call it. I don’t have it for my mom.”

Kailyn continued, “Am I ready to have a relationship with her again? Do I want a relationship with her? Am I going to be OK with it if she’s not sober all the time? I don’t know.”

image

Where is Kailyn’s mom now?

While Kailyn claims to not even know if her mom is alive, but according to The Ashley’s Reality Roundup, Suzi is very much alive and living “less than two hours from Kail’s home.”

Unfortunately, shortly after her podcast aired, Kailyn had a change of heart about reconnecting with her mom and tweeted, “Sorry to disappoint but I no longer want to reach out.”

As for her dad, Kail hasn’t seen him since she she reunited with him while filming 16 and Pregnant nearly one decade ago — and the first thing he did was ask her for $20. “[Before I met him] I was like, ‘My dad is going to come rescue me someday,’” she said at the time. “I’m going to have this superhero dad that’s going to come in when my life is f–ked up and he’s going to make everything better. And then I met him and I was like, ‘Oh f–k, no, this is not what I expected.”http://www.distractify.com/”

The Father Of A Parkland Shooting Victim Has This Simple Message To Prevent Gun Violence

A database with records as far back as 1970 shows there were more incidents of gun violence and more deaths in 2018 than any other year on record, and yet, to our collective raised eyebrows — and amid a heckuva lot of other questionable material — Louis CK made headlines when he mocked the victims of the Parkland Shooting during a show in New York that was widely condemned.

While the remarks made were unfortunate, they led to an important response from one of the victims’ families survived by the Parkland Shooting. It is a response that isn’t comfortable, or fun, but it does raise an important point about the line between comedy and tragedy, a point so obvious it’s rather shocking it needs to be made but here it goes:

Being shot to death at school is not a joke.

That’s the message that Change The Ref (CTR), the organization that produced this gut-wrenching PSA which references the opening to Louis CK’s eponymous television show, wants to underscore.

Founded in the memory of Joaquin Oliver who was one of the 17 victims of the Parkland Shooting, CTR is a result of the efforts of Manuel and Patricia Oliver who are committed to making sure that their son’s life and the lives of the other 16 victims are never forgotten. Their mission is to bring about real change by empowering future leaders to ensure that tragedies like Parkland never happen again.

Being shot to death at school is not a joke. We need commonsense gun laws, and we need them now. Stand up against gun violence at ChangeTheRef.org #NotAJoke

About Change The Ref (CTR)

Change The Ref (CTR), was formed to empower our Future Leaders. CTR gives the kids of today the tools they need to be empowered to make changes to critical issues that affect our nation, through education, conversation, and activism. It uses urban art and nonviolent creative confrontation to expose the disastrous effects of the mass shooting pandemic. It also brings focus to the NRA’s corrupt maneuvers to buy lawmakers, while forcing solutions which are essential to healing mass shooting victims’ families’ lifelong grief. Change The Ref’s ultimate goal is to give the young generation of survivors and victims a disrupting voice to help lead the way to change – a more peaceful future. #NeverAgain.

The Loss of 17 lives on February 14th, 2018 at MSD High School in Parkland, Florida due to yet another mass shooting, caused a conversation to erupt in our country and around the world and a youth movement to be born. CTR is an organization created to fuel the youth of today, empowering them to lead the way and make impactful changes happen.

Founded in the memory of their son Joaquin who was one of the 17 victims, Manuel and Patricia Oliver are committed to making sure that their son’s life and the lives of the other 16 victims are never forgotten and that real change happens to prevent future tragedies like this from happening ever again.

The only way that will occur is if we have the ability engage the next generation and the generations after to get involved, fight for their values and beliefs and have their voices heard!

Our Mission

To empower our next generation so they can fight for their values, have their voices heard, and impact change for their future.

Metroid Prime 4 | Know Your Meme

About

Metroid Prime 4 is an upcoming first-person shooter in the Metroid series by Nintendo. After being announced at E3 2017, the series was delayed in January of 2019 when Nintendo announced that they had scrapped the development of the game under Bandai Namco and given development duties to Retro Studios.

History

Metroid Prime 4 was announced at E3 2017 in a brief trailer (shown below). At the time, Nintendo announced that it was not being developed by Retro Studios, who had done the first three Metroid Prime games.

It was later confirmed that development of the game was being headed by Bandai Namco’s Singapore team. However, no updates on the game were made at E3 2018, as Reggie Fils-Aime stated Nintendo did not want to present something unless it would “wow” people.

Delay Announcement

On January 25th, 2019, Senior Managing Executive Officer Shinya Takahashi announced via video that they had given the game back to Retro Studios, the original team that worked on the _Metroid Prime _series. Producer Kensuke Tanabe would remain attached to the project.

The announcement, rare for Nintendo, was praised for its transparency despite the unfortunate news for Metroid Prime fans. IGN noted:

It’s not just the fans who benefit from more transparency. While it makes them feel valued and respected outside of a tired marketing spin, it also reminds them that games are made by humans, and humans can be fallible. Having a grasp of this lends to a more compassionate audience.

10-Year-Old Boy Has Beyond Rare Disorder That Caused A Kidney To Grow Inside His Leg

Hamish Robinson was born six weeks prematurely and weighed a mere two pounds. He was released from NICU three weeks later.

Hamish’s mom, Kay, realized he just wasn’t developing properly. For example, he finally said the word “Mama” at 17 months old, only to go silent for the next six years.

Kay and her medical team couldn’t figure out the root cause of Hamish’s seemingly stunted behavioral growth. Then she met with a geneticist who finally unlocked the truth — that her son was bor without the “7p22.1” chromosome.

This chromosome deficiency caused a “structural malformation” which, in turn, caused one of Hamish’s kidneys to grow inside the top of his right thigh! It’s a fully functioning organ in the shape of a horseshoe, but “the chances of a kidney ending up in someone’s leg are practically, if not completely, unheard of until now,” Dr. Andrew Ordon told Inside Edition.

Hamish also suffers from chronic asthma, hearing loss and spinal issues, and he relies on a voice computer to communicate.

But here’s the thing that makes his case so delicate, fascinating and unique: the medical community believes that Hamish, now 10, is the only person on the planet to have this syndrome.

I Tried Using Nipple Butter As Lip Balm, And I’ve Found My New Favorite Beauty Trick

nipple butter

The other day, I added one of the top-rated nipple butters to my shopping cart on Amazon. I am not breastfeeding. I’ve never breastfed. I just have really, really dry lips.

Let me explain.

I am one of those people who has to re-apply lip balm about 100 times an hour. For that reason, I have a mini-collection of lip balms that I keep stashed in strategic locations — one by my bedside, one in my purse, one in my jacket, and so on. But despite my best efforts, my lips are always chapped again within an hour (on a good day). That’s partially because I compulsively bite my lips (thanks, anxiety) and partially because winter.

Recently, I found the holy grail of lip balms. Or, at least, I thought I did. It was pure, plain, 100% shea butter. It worked much better than any lip balm I’d tried thus far (including Burt’s Bees, EOS, and good ol’ Chapstick). And by “better,” I mean that it was more effective at penetrating my lips, softening them, and staying in place to protect them for a while (until I chewed it off).

I posted an Instagram story about my newfound love of shea butter, asserting that lip balm is a lie. A family friend replied and said, “You know what really really works? Nipple butter! Like for when you’re breastfeeding. I’m so serious.”

Me being me, I immediately wrote myself a note: “Try nipple butter.”

After some Googling, I discovered that there are, surprisingly, many folks who use nipple butter or cream on their lips. Nipple butter lip balm is a thing! A couple celebrities do it, even, like Margot Robbie and Tan France.

Although strange, it does make sense. Most nipple butters contain super-soothing plant oils and butters that are amazing for your skin. There’s no reason that they wouldn’t benefit your chapped lips, too.

For my own enlightenment as well as all of yours, I tested not one but two nipple butters out.

Teen Is Mortified When Mom Leaves Car In Snowstorm Traffic To Dance To The Backstreet Boys

Wendy Gossett, along with rows of other inconvenienced drivers, got stuck in traffic jam on the interstate for hours upon hours. During the middle of a Colorado snowstorm. Fun, right?

Wendy, who was in the car with her 16-year-old Nathan, was growing more antsy and frustrated by the minute. Nathan was starving and stressed.

Nearly five hours passed by and the cars remained at a complete standstill. The mother-son duo was miserable and having the “worst day ever.”

Then the Backstreet Boys came on the radio — and a stir-crazy Wendy decided the song made for the perfect opportunity to break up the monotony. It was time for an impromptu dance session.

Much to her teenager’s horror, Wendy hopped out of their car and started moving and grooving between the other cars and in front of the windshield. All she wanted to do was make her son smile… and all he wanted to do was “block it all out.”

Proud of her one-woman dance party, Wendy posted the clip to her Facebook page where it went viral.

Hey, at least she made the most of a bad situation!

I Tried Making ‘Healthy’ Hot Cocoa To Turn My Winter Vice Into A Virtue

I’m a sucker for traditions. Growing up, I always begged my mom to go all-out for Christmas. I also always, always drank hot cocoa when it got cold outside. Now that I’m older, I wanted to make a “healthy” version that I could drink guilt-free without a sugar hangover.

In my youth, I would pile my hot cocoa with All of the Toppings: whipped cream, cinnamon, marshmallows, the whole shebang. It’s a shame that Instagram didn’t exist then (and that I’m not much of a photographer), because these hot cocoa creations were straight-up photogenic.

Sadly, I can no longer eat the sugary things that I used to love. That rules out marshmallows and whipped cream. Regular hot cocoa mixes, too, aren’t really an option, since they usually consist of two main ingredients: cocoa powder and sugar.

Luckily, I recently stumbled upon a wholesome and healthy hot cocoa recipe when I was trying to figure out what to do with some maca powder that I bought on a whim from Trader Joe’s. There’s a healthy version of everything, and hot cocoa is no exception!

Unlike traditional hot cocoa, this “healthy” version contains many more ingredients, including maca powder, cinnamon, coconut oil, and cayenne powder. Each of these ingredients adds a unique taste to the hot cocoa that sets it apart from what I remember as a kid.

These unique ingredients also provide a range of health benefits. Maca powder, for example, is a natural mood and energy booster, and cinnamon is rich in antioxidants. Best of all, this hot cocoa contains absolutely no sugar. Instead, it uses maple syrup as a natural sweetener.

I played around with the original recipe a bit, and I’ve now come up with my own perfectly yummy, healthy hot cocoa. I’ll definitely be making this for the rest of the cold months. Wintertime is officially complete.
