‘WE GOTTA GATEKEEP THIS OR THEY’LL DELETE THIS OPTION’: Customer shares ‘hack’ for getting Cava for half off

There’s been no shortage of love for Cava on social media. Customers have praised the chain for its generous portions, and a Cava devotee recently went viral on TikTok after gushing about how a location gave her free food because they weren’t accepting cash and she didn’t bring her card with her.

Now, another TikToker is extolling Cava by highlighting her “hack” for getting two meals for one at the popular chain.

TikTok user Caroline Conneen (@carolineconneen) posted the viral video on Feb. 2. As of March 30, the video has over 159,000 views.

“This is my hack for anyone who loves Cava to get it for half off,” she says to start the clip.

“Unlike other bowl places, the toppings are pretty much unlimited. Like, they’ll let you get as many as you want, so I got all brown rice, I doubled up for free on all of the toppings, and then the only thing I pay extra for is I double the protein so that I have two proteins,” she explains.

Conneen says that if the workers “do it right,” customers should receive a “huge” bowl when using this hack. She then scoops half of her Cava bowl’s contents into an empty bowl from her home.

“You’re getting two very legit portions here,” she says while showing the contents of both bowls. “Then, I just add my own greens, and now we have lunch, and now we also have lunch for tomorrow.”

@carolineconneen I do this when I get it delivered:) @cava is worth every penny in my opinion though fav lunch place ever #healthyeating #healthylifestyle ♬ original sound – Trueee

In the comments section, many viewers appreciated Conneen’s hack. Some even said they already use the practice at Cava and similar restaurants.

“I do this too and sauce on the side so it’s not soggy!!” one viewer wrote.

“I do the EXACT same but I eat more than half I double everything and add my own rice,” a second said.

“I do this with chipotle but get the toppings on the side so I can reheat the rice + protein/ cheese and keep the veggies/ salsa cold,” another added.

However, one TikToker’s remark suggests that Cava’s portion generosity may be location specific.

“We eat regularly at Cava, but one location near us barely put anything in it,” they wrote.

Luckily, Conneen’s hack is not the only way to save money at Cava. One TikToker shared that to get their money’s worth, they “just get the kids meal.”

The Daily Dot contacted Conneen via Instagram direct message and Cava via email for further comment.

Where to Get the ‘Dungeons and Dragons’ Popcorn Bucket

Callie (Carlos) Cadorniga - Author

The new Dungeons & Dragons movie may just be one of the most interesting pop culture oddities of 2023 so far, second only to Hi-Fi Rush being announced and released on the same day to critical acclaim.

Based on the popular and long-running fantasy-based tabletop RPG, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves has received stellar marks among critics. It’s earned an 89 percent critic approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes as well as a 94 percent audience score.

Article continues below advertisement

That’s certainly unexpected for a live-action adaptation of a game that, for all intents and purposes, has no plot except for what individual players make of it. Against all odds, though, the film seems to have rolled a Nat-20 among critics and audiences ahead of its wide theatrical release.

If you’re a DnD fan looking to check out the film for yourself, then you may want to hit up AMC Theaters for a chance to pick up specially themed merch. Here’s where to pick up a Dungeons & Dragons popcorn bucket.

Want to know where to get a ‘Dungeons & Dragons’ popcorn bucket? Keep reading to find out.

To celebrate the theatrical release of Honor Among Thieves, AMC Theatres is rolling out exclusive DnD-themed merch that you can pick up at participating locations. These include medieval mugs, shirts, and a giant popcorn bucket.

But this is nothing like the themed tin buckets that you might have picked up for other movies. This plastic DnD popcorn bucket is in the shape of a 20-sided die, similar to what you would find in your average dice set for regular DnD games.

The bucket has rustic medieval etchings and actually features 20 labeled sides, capped off with a hinged lid that you can open and close.

For all intents and purposes, this oversized D20 is more than usable during your next campaign if you really want to make a statement with your game nights. Either way, you can pick one up at one of several locations. Click here for a full list of AMC theaters that are offering the bucket, organized by state. Be wary, because supplies may not last.

The bucket itself is $34.99, which is roughly what you might spend on movie theater snacks in the first place. If you’re a DnD superfan who’s got the dough to spare, you can ask the theater workers if they have any available.

Not only would this be a perfect talking point for your campaign, but it’s also highly appropriate for watching Honor Among Thieves. The DnD film follows Edgin Darvis (Chris Pine), a charming thief who teams up with a ragtag group of adventurers in order to pull off an epic heist and retrieve an ancient relic.

Ready to set off on a new adventure? Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves comes out in theaters on March 31.

People Are Loving That Disney Slipped A Clause Involving King Charles III Into Their DeSantis Agreement That Blocks Him From Ever Taking Over Their Land

On Wednesday, a gang of Ron DeSantis cronies were in for a rude awakening. The quintet who were set to take over Disney’s Florida land held their first meeting, which is when they learned that an agreement found a way to strip them of any real power. It was a brilliant case of checkmate by Disney honcho Bob Iger and his legal team. But maybe the funniest aspect was buried deep in the document.

As per the BBC, lawyers for Disney and the Reedy Creek Improvement District, which had up till this week served as the governing district of Disney’s Florida property, had found a way to circumvent DeSantis, who was enraged that the company didn’t hate LGBTQIA+ people. They signed an agreement that greatly reduced their power, handing it over to Disney instead.

But that’s not all they did. Surely recognizing that DeSantis and team could seize power later down the line, they added a clause that would keep their mitts off the company for…well, for forever. The clause stated that the declaration will last until “twenty one (21) years after the death of the last survivor of the descendants of King Charles III.”

King Charles III is still spry in his mid-70s, but the agreement doesn’t last until his death. It lasts until the “last survivor of the descendants” of the soon-to-be-coronated king. Even the relatively young DeSantis won’t be around then.

The clause — an extra eff-you to the governor who retaliated against the company — produced a lot of gasps on social media.

There was also some confusion about the clause’s language. Did it mean Charles III’s immediate descendants?

Or did it mean all of his descendants. If so, that would be a while.

Anyway, when Iger and team made a fool of Ron DeSantis, it was huge Florida news. Few imagined it would be eclipsed by the state’s most famous resident getting indicted.

E3 2023 Is Cancelled Leaving Its Future In Doubt

Every year, during the summer months, there are a series of presentations where some of the biggest producers in all of gaming announce upcoming titles, new releases, and more all to the excitement of fans. This period of time has always been associated with the trade show, E3, but over the last few years E3 has struggled to remain relevant as complications from COVID, internal issues, and questions about if E3 should even exist have plagued it. Despite this, the organization running E3 known as the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) has been adamant that it will continue on and would have a presentation in 2023. This will not happen.

E3 2023 has been cancelled as first reported by IGN’s Rebekah Valentine. Sometime Thursday, the ESA announced to its shareholders that an event in 2023 would not be happening. This follows months of announcements from some of gaming’s biggest companies, such as Xbox, Nintendo, PlayStation, and Ubisoft announcing that it would not have a presence of any kind at whatever event E3 was planning to host.

Two sources have confirmed to IGN that the organization announced the cancellation via an email sent out to its members today. The email said that while E3 “remains a beloved event and brand” that the 2023 version “simply did not garner the sustained interest necessary to execute it in a way that would showcase the size, strength, and impact of our industry.”

With yet another cancellation to E3, many are wondering if this is it for the longtime event. Many companies no longer see value in purchasing an expensive physical booth at the Los Angeles convention center when they can do a better job reaching out to fans, media, and shareholders on their own through digital events like Nintendo Direct, or PlayStation’s State of Play. There are even competing showcase events like Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest.

If this really is it for E3, it will leave behind a complicated legacy. Many journalists speak highly of what it did for their careers, and fans have always loved having a week dedicated to the celebration of video games, but E3’s inability to evolve with the changing times may have finally doomed it for good.

Is Universal’s Dark Universe Still Happening?

‘Creature from the Black Lagoon’

Jennifer Tisdale - Author

Movie buffs always like to complain about reboots, even the good ones. The criticism varies from somehow ruining the original to a desire to consume fresh ideas. And while some can certainly improve upon a motion picture that was lacking in modern advances, others suffer from a bit too much movie magic.

Perhaps that’s what went wrong with Universal Pictures’ planned Universal Dark Universe. The idea was to bring the original Universal monsters to new audiences. But is Universal’s Dark Universe still happening? Here’s what we know.

Is Universal’s Dark Universe still happening or has it been buried?

From 1931 through the 1950s, scaring people was what Universal Studios did best. If New Line Cinema is the house that Freddy [Krueger] built then Universal is the castle built by Dracula, The Mummy, Frankenstein, The Invisible Man, The Wolf Man, and The Creature From the Black Lagoon. Although horror usually cannot catch a break when it comes to awards, there is no doubt this specific type of art speaks to millions.

These original films have been remade, rebooted, and given sequels many times over the years, but these versions rarely held a candle to their predecessors. We’ll of course make an exception for 1999’s The Mummy starring Academy Award–winning actor Brendan Fraser. In July 2014, Deadline reported that Universal was “dedicating renewed resources and an unprecedented, far-reaching commitment to revitalize its monster heritage.” In other words, they wanted to create a cohesive franchise for the monsters who made them.

The plan was to acknowledge that the Universal monsters all existed within the same cinematic universe. Basically Dracula can drop by the Invisilble Man’s house anytime he wants, if he can find him. Universal decided to begin with The Mummy which is how we got Tom Cruise running around and acting against too much CGI in the 2017 film.

Article continues below advertisement

In the film, Cruise’s Nick Morton spends time with the mysterious Prodigium corporation, run by the non-Universal monster known as Dr. Jekyll (Russell Crowe). In these scenes it is suggested that this organization houses other monsters. This movie did not do well, which pushed Universal to hit the pause button on other films in the Dark Universe.

Article continues below advertisement

What did fans not like about ‘The Mummy’ (2017)?

Instead of paying an homage to the original movies, which were very spooky and perfect for the goth in your life, Universal treated The Mummy more like an action-adventure than a horror film. Perhaps that’s why Tom “Does His Own Stunts” Cruise was cast as its star. Instead of a dark, foreboding motion picture that relied on practical effects and a clever use of lighting, viewers got the sheen of modern-day Hollywood. It just didn’t feel like a classic Universal monsters movie.

A few years later in February 2020, The Invisible Man was released. It seems as if Universal learned its lesson by gifting the world with a grimy psychological thriller that, while very different from the original, kept the scares high and the unnecessary stunts low. Of course this version felt more true-crime than true horror but overall it was a marked improvement from The Mummy. Soon, we’ll be getting another dip into the Universal monster pantheon with Renfield (2023).

Article continues below advertisement

Is ‘Renfield’ part of the Dark Universe?

Because the Dark Universe has basically been abandoned, Renfield is a standalone film. Starring Nicholas Hoult as the titular Renfield, it is taking a Rosencrantz & Guildenstern approach to Dracula’s (played by Nic Cage) obsessed sidekick. Based on the trailer, it’s more of a horror-comedy than anything else, but because the focus is on an outlying Universal character, there is more wiggle room with the tone.

What we’re most looking forward to, other than the Nic Cage of it all, is the treatment of Renfield and Dracula’s relationship. The film is accurately describing it as codependent and Renfield is rightfully trying to escape. The new twist is Renfield has some powers of his own. Honestly, the Dark Universe should have gone one of two ways. Either it could have honored the old monsters or taken them in such a different direction that building a new universe made sense.

Heather Gay and Whitney Rose’s Feud Explained

Elizabeth Randolph - Author

Heather and Whitney have been on RHOSLC since Season 1, and fans have watched their friendship grow over the last few seasons. However, the relatives had a massive blowup in Season 3 of their reality show, and it has caused even more drama between them on Peacock’s Housewives spinoff show The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip.

Here’s everything that went down between Heather and Whitney that led to the possible end of “Bad Weather.”

Heather Gay and Whitney Rose’s feud explained: The drama happened on ‘RHOSLC.’

In RHOSLC Season 1, Bravo fully displayed Whitney and Heather’s inseparable bond. But when they both returned to the series for Season 3, their relationship changed when Heather neglected to help Whitney spread a rumor about their co-star Lisa Barlow.

Whitney took offense at Heather’s choice not to repeat a mutual friend’s claim that Lisa had a fling with a mystery person so she could get tickets to see the Utah Jazz. When Heather denied hearing about the affair, Whitney lashed out at Heather and felt her friend didn’t have her back.

Article continues below advertisement

Heather and Whitney’s Season 3 disagreement lasted through the rest of RHOSLC Season 3, and Heather vowed never to be the Wild Rose Beauty CEO’s friend again. However, after they filmed RHUGT Season 3 in Thailand, they were seemingly back on good terms on the trip. But shortly after filming wrapped in July 2022, Heather announced at BravoCon that she and Whitney couldn’t get back on the same page.

Article continues below advertisement

“I just want Whitney to be happy, and when I found out being my friend didn’t make her happy …,” Heather said at BravoCon in October 2022, adding, “We were dear friends, and it seemed out of the blue just completely that you decided that you were gonna dump me as a friend.”

Are Whitney Rose and Heather Gay friends now? Whitney said they had to “put some boundaries” between them.

After their run-in at BravoCon, Whitney stated that Heather’s comments surprised her because she thought they had already squashed their drama in Thailand. Heather shared on Us Weekly’s “Getting Real with the Housewives” podcast that she was “redefining a lot of friendships” as she worked on herself. She also said her and Whitney’s relationship “just went up in smoke” and that she wasn’t “sure how to repair that.”

In January 2023, the cousins discussed their feud face-to-face at the RHOSLC reunion. Whitney told the group that she and Heather were cordial, but she decided to “put some boundaries” between them to protect herself from future drama.

Whitney Rose feels Heather Gay is a better friend to Jen Shah than she has been to her.

When RHUGT Season 3 premiered on Peacock on March 23, 2023, fans finally saw why Whitney had no idea Heather still had animosity toward her.

During the first half of the third season, Whitney and Heather’s issues were a hot topic among their castmates. However, Jen Shah’s case was also making waves after Jen pleaded guilty to committing wire fraud through her telemarketing. Jen’s plea was the day before RHUGT began production and after RHOSLC wrapped Season 3.

Article continues below advertisement

Unsurprisingly, Heather and Whitney’s co-stars wanted to hear their takes on Jen’s case. Heather, who is close friends with Jen, said she was “processing” the case in real-time and also said she believed Jen was innocent the entire time.

Article continues below advertisement

Heather’s loyalty to Jen upset Whitney, who felt Heather was “riding harder” for Jen than her cousin. The claim came months after the Bad Mormon author followed Whitney back on Instagram shortly after Jen went in for her five-and-a-half-year prison sentence, which Whitney felt was convenient timing.

“So I get re-followed after her ride or die was sentenced yesterday … WILD!” Whitney wrote under a screenshot of Heather following her back.

Despite Heather and Whitney’s friction, the cousins seemingly made amends during RHUGT. In one scene, they drew a truce by pinky-promising each other to be friends again. As viewers will see, the promise doesn’t last long.

The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip is available to stream exclusively on Peacock. The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. on Bravo.

Redditor Bashes Teaching Profession as “Toxic” in Viral Post

Mustafa Gatollari - Author

In March of 2023, USA Today reported that the number of teachers quitting their jobs has reached a record high. And if you or anyone you know is an educator, it isn’t difficult to understand why.

While there are definitely some states, and counties within those states that pay teachers much better than others, there are many areas of the country where being a teacher is a raw deal.

Article continues below advertisement

It’s also not uncommon for teachers to work well past their scheduled hours, with many classroom instructors either bringing their work home with them or staying after hours in school to put in grades or complete other administrative work that was impossible to fulfill during their pre-ordained times.

For this teacher, whose story is going viral on Reddit, she was regularly working 20+ additional hours a week, aka, another part-time job.
