‘This is why I dont trust anyone’: Man says lost iPhone scam is being used to rob people. Here’s how

A man went viral on TikTok after warning users about an iPhone scam that he said is being used to rob or harm people. User @haveagreatpositiveday posted a video detailing the scam nearly one week ago. As of Sunday, his clip had amassed over 207,900 views.

“This is basically a video to warn you of a scam that’s going on,” the content creator said. He encouraged viewers, too, to Google search “iPhone scam door-to-door” to get more information about the ruse.

“Everybody I’ve told this story to would’ve never thought that these people are trying to do this,” the content creator said.

@haveagreatpositiveday said that two women attempted to rob him while he was sitting in the parking lot of a Food Lion grocery store. He said that he was in his car, scrolling through Facebook Marketplace, when another vehicle pulled up next to him.

“A car comes up and this woman starts screaming,” he said. Initially, he added, he thought “she was having an altercation with some other woman.”

@haveagreatpositiveday said he cracked his window open slightly to better hear what the woman was saying. He noted, however, that he typically doesn’t let strangers get too close to his car.

Still, seeing his window ajar apparently gave the women the opening they needed to better talk to the content creator.

“She said, ‘Excuse me, you have my iPhone,’” the man recalled. Thankfully, the man said he was vigilant. “I already knew right there she was trying to scam me,” he said.

@haveagreatpositiveday explained to viewers that he didn’t have anyone else’s phone and knew the woman was up to no good. And, frustrated with the attempted scam, the content creator said he quickly left Food Lion.

“But then they follow me,” he said. “This is what happens when… the robbery doesn’t go correctly. Either they retreat, or they get really aggressive because it didn’t go their way.”

What’s happening, he said, is that the scammers will approach you and present an iPhone with the “Locate my iPhone” app showing that their “lost” phone is inside your home or in your car. In some cases, according to local media reports, the scammers will try to get inside your home or get you to leave the confines of your residence. As a result, police have warned people to remain cautious and stay vigilant if someone you don’t know attempts to enter your property.

@haveagreatpositiveday added, too, that it’s important for people to not try and “help” the scammers find their phone and to call the police if necessary.

“I’m making this video for you to be aware,” he said. “Pay attention to your surroundings at all times, and if someone comes up to you and says they lost their iPhone… don’t get caught up.”

“Be careful out there,” he added. “Do not fall for this scam.”

In the comments, a number of viewers expressed shock at how legit the scam seemed.

“I’m scared of humans,” one person said.

“It’s hard these days to trust all people,” another added. “But listen to your gut.”

“This is why I dont trust anyone anymore,” a third person wrote. “People are just horrible.”

Others, meanwhile, quipped that they could never get caught up in this particular scam because they don’t own an iPhone.

“GLAD I LOVE ANDROID,” one person said.

“Jokes on them,” another wrote. “Android user.”

Mother-In-Law Constantly Tries To Make Her Daughter-In-Law Jealous With Her Wealth, So She Turns The Tables And Doesn’t Invite Her On Vacation

Source: Reddit/AITA/Pexels

Ugliness is so much more rancid on the inside than it is on the outside.

It’s a cancer that eats away at you until who you were before is gone.

That kind of nastiness can even be contagious, but sometimes it can be beaten back.

Exactly like this story of a young couple getting some beautiful revenge on a horribly ugly mother-in-law.

I was going to post this on JustNoMIL but feel like it fits better here.

MIL has always been bitter that “I took her son away from her”. She’s the queen of negging and I am often her number one target.

She loves to make me jealous- sends pictures of her new cars, sends pictures of her new house, sends pictures of her designer handbags etc saying “isn’t it great I can afford all this”.

The vacation texts and pictures this MIL sent.

Are you kidding me??

MIL didn’t invite us on vacation last summer. She invited and paid for her other son, his gf AND the gf’s sister to go. She bought them designer souvenirs and sent us pictures every day of their vacation captioned “I bet you’re so jealous”.

Time for karma to allow a little petty revenge into this couples’ lives.

Not 3 months after she excluded us from her vacation, my parents invited us on their vacation.

We accepted.

MIL was FURIOUS. Jealousy is not a good look on her. She threw a tantrum saying that she was losing her little boy and that she “wanted to be the best mom in the world”. She was so jealous that my mother is getting more attention than her.

Oh but it gets eeeeeven better.

She cried about how she never sees us and how we’ve always “shown blatant favouritism” towards my parents.

The best bit of all this – it was at this moment SO decided to tell her that we are moving 5 hours away…to my parent’s city.

B-E-A-UTIFUL.

Let’s see what folks had to say.

One person is utterly shocked at how far-gone that MIL is.

‘It’s not my fault I can’t shade match’: Former Sephora manager explains how you can get banned from returning makeup

Bad news if you’ve got an eye shadow addiction and a fickle heart. According to a former Sephora manager, you could get banned from making returns at the beauty store chain if you do it too often.

California-based beauty creator Jennie Pham (@greeneggsandglam) recently shared her knowledge about the policy on TikTok. She made her video in response to another creator’s post about the policy. Pham explained that she was a manager at a Sephora store until last March.

The video has 1 million views and almost 70,000 likes.

“Yes, you can be banned from making returns at Sephora,” Pham said in the video.

The creator explained that it’s not about the ratio of returns to purchases. “What matters is the dollar amount of what you’re returning,” she said.

She continued, “If you return more than $2,500 of product in the last calendar year, you will get banned.”

When that threshold is reached and a customer tries to return another product, the store’s system will deny the return, she said. A ticket will print out directing the customer to call customer service to find out why. “When you call that number, they’ll be like, ‘Girl, you’re done,’” Pham said.

There’s a simple workaround, according to the creator: Setting up another Sephora account with a different email address and phone number.

Pham further revealed some of Sephora’s return protocols, at least when she worked there. If a product’s been used or the seal’s broken, it’s usually destroyed. Sometimes, returned fragrances would be turned into floor testers. Nothing used is donated or reshelved.

“Just be responsible with how you’re purchasing and how you’re returning,” she said.

Pham was also a manager at Ulta in the past, she said, and that beauty store chain had no maximum on returns, in her experience. “Ulta just overall has a better return policy than Sephora,” she said.

One commenter wrote, “2500 is not a lot considering every item is at least $100.” Another viewer replied, “That’s so much. That’s a crazy amount to RETURN every year.”

For the most part, viewers expressed relief at the $2,500 limit. “This is comforting bc I’ve haven’t even spent that amount there in my entire life,” a viewer chimed in.

“Do you get unbanned after a year? Like does it reset,” someone asked. Another commenter responded, “It resets every year. I’ve dealt with it like twice.”

Another commenter wrote, “just dispute with your credit card company.”

“I worked at Sephora. we had a lady buy an entire range of an expensive brand and return it a week later… she was filling the pots with Nivea. her getting banned was euphoria,” a comment read.

“I’m guessing it’s influencers not on PR lists reviewing products then returning and/or people who buy for one occasion and then return,” someone commented.

“It’s not my fault i can’t shade match & neither can the employees,” one viewer vented.

Several international viewers were shocked that you could return beauty products at all. “I’m British and honestly it blows my mind that you can return makeup. As soon as we open it we can’t return it unless it’s faulty,” a commenter wrote.

“I had multiple who would come in and try to return stuff and the system wouldn’t let me and i’d have to politely explain to them why … they always acted so confused and shocked,” another viewer commented.

Pham clarified in the comments that exchanges did not typically count toward the return limit.

Sephora last updated the return policy listed on its website in January 2023.

“If you are not completely satisfied with a Sephora purchase or gift for any reason, Sephora welcomes you to return new or gently used products for a full refund to your original method of payment if returned within 30 days of purchase, in most cases,” according to the policy.

Customers must show proof of purchase, and products have to be new or gently used. Returns made after 30 days are eligible for store credit.

While the Sephora website doesn’t mention a specific dollar amount as a threshold for banning customers from making more returns, it does include provisions for people trying to game the system.

“Sephora monitors return activity for abuse and reserves the right to limit returns or exchanges at Sephora in all instances. … All returns are subject to validation and approval at Sephora’s discretion. If a return is not approved by Sephora for any reason, the item may not be returned to you,” according to the website.

On Sephora’s community boards, there are several posts from customers claiming they got slammed with a return ban. In September, one self-described shopaholic wrote: “I am infuriated and was completely humiliated to receive this returns ban in front of other clients when I have been a loyal customer for so many years, and have never received a warning prior before this ban so it is clear Sephora does not value customer loyalty and will treat you like a criminal on a flip of a dime.” A community moderator replied to the post, directing the customer to contact customer service.

The Daily Dot reached out to Pham and Sephora via email.

In other recent Sephora news, a former employee posted a viral TikTok saying he was forced to give customers baskets when they were suspected of shoplifting.

21 Myths About Being Single, From Older Adults

19.

“I didn’t make a conscious decision not to have a husband and kids — it just worked out that way. My parents got married when they were 22, so I thought that was a good age for me, too; however, while my fiancé was absolutely the right man, it was absolutely the wrong time for me to get married. Fast forward 30-ish years, and I’ve never married and never had kids, which is strange because ever since I was in first grade, I dreamed of having a house, a husband, and a lot of kids. I think there’s a part of me that thought it was a checklist of required things to do in life: graduate from college, get married, have kids. No one really said what to do when all the boxes were checked, and no one ever presented the list with the option of only checking off one box (a college degree).”

“The thing I’m finding most perplexing about it all is that I don’t seem to fit in anywhere; people don’t know what to do with me. I’m not married or divorced, and I’ve never had kids so I lack those types of experiences with most other people I meet who are my age. … For the most part, I am content with my life. Sometimes, I look back and play what-if or get sad because I’m not where my much younger self thought I would be by now, but, on the whole, I can’t complain. I haven’t ruled out getting married or having kids, but I also don’t anything to actively seek it out.”

Minimum wages across the European Union as of April 1,…

Minimum wages across the European Union as of April 1, 2024.

source This is about gross monthly minimum wages.

Also note about Greece and Portugal. Technically Greece has 830€ per month and Portugal 820€ per month. But because both of those countries have 14 payments per year instead of 12, the results on the map show the real gross minimum wages spread throughout twelve months.

Meme History: It’s Gonna Be May

It’s reasonable to assume that when Max Martin explicitly told Justin Timberlake to sing the word “me” like “may,” the singer knew it was a mispronunciation but rolled with it, because a) it wasn’t exactly tearing up his heart, and b) he wasn’t thinking about the way it would open him up to meme-dom 15 years later

But even so, a quarter century later, every April *NSYNC memes are all the fans ever wantedall they ever needed, and they want them back.

The reason? The next month is gonna be May.

In the year 2000, Justin Timberlake was already one of the most darling pop stars in the world, and every little thing he did, never seemed enough for *NSYNC fans. That spring, they released their twelfth-ever single—”It’s Gonna Be Me.”

It was co-written by pop music god Max Martin, a producer whose discography is so long it has its own Wikipedia page, and who—as of 2024 —has more Billboard Hot 100 Number Ones than anyone alive except Paul McCartney.

The thing is, Max was born in Sweden, and English is not his first language. The reason Britney Spears talks about loneliness and then says “hit me baby” is because Max and his writing partner thought “hit” was American slang for “call.” Although in retrospect, “hit me up baby one more time,” doesn’t quite have the same ring to it.

In Justin Timberlake’s words, “the parts of their English that were broken actually made them catchier songwriters because they would put words away that almost didn’t make sense. But when you sang them, they were more memorable.”

Fair enough. But to someone who doesn’t have that backstory, it’s just a funny idiosyncrasy.

To that point, in 2012 we got our first two instances of “It’s Gonna be May” as a proper meme, both posted to Tumblr.

Shortly thereafter, a snippet of the song was used as the audio for a short YouTube video whose visual was an image macro of the line, and eventually it earned parodies by independent YouTubers and commercial advertisers alike.

Of course, it also spread like wildfire all over the internet in still-image macro form.

As a spin-off, there’s a subgenre of It’s Gonna Be May memes where a pack of Ramen Noodles—making fun of Justin Timberlake’s hair—stand in for the phrase.

Reddit/Tumblr

And, not wanting to be a fool in this game for two and be left behind, it appears that *NSYNC is willing to run with all of the attention instead of fighting it.

On April 30th, 2019, they invited Twitter users to share their favorite *NSYNC memes, and exactly one year later, in 2020, the band briefly changed the name of the track on Spotify to reference the meme

It’s good marketing, and a great way to stay relevant a whopping two and a half decades after the album’s release. But it might be unnecessary, because with or without their help this meme is here to stay.

Over the years, It’s Gonna Be May has proved to be such a lasting joke that it’s uncertain if the internet will ever want to see it out that door and say bye bye bye.

Bartender Spills The Annoying Things That Customers Do That Really Grind Her Gears. – ‘If somebody asks me to ‘hook it up’ on their drink.’

Source: TikTok/@alexawilliss

If you’re the kind of person who likes to frequent drinking establishments, then you need to pay attention to this video.

A bartender named Alexa shared a video on TikTok and talked to viewers about the things customers do that really grind her gears when she’s on the job.

Alexa bartends in Los Angeles and she told viewers, “Get ready with me while I tell you guys my bartender icks as a 3-year bartender.”

She started off by saying, “When someone walks into a bar and it’s a full bar and they say, ‘What do guys have?’ What do you think we have? Everything.”

Source: TikTok/@alexawillissSource: TikTok/@alexawilliss

She continued with another pet peeve and said, “When I’m making another customer’s drink and another customer hands me a checkbook, while my hands are full, […] What am I supposed to do, drop the drinks and grab it? Not happening.”

And then there’s tipping: “This should be obvious, but when someone writes ‘You’re so cute, oh I love you,’ or puts hearts and smiley faces on the checkbook but a $0 tip.”

Alexa also said, “If somebody asks me to ‘hook it up’ on their drink, I’m giving you a smaller pour than a single pour because I know you’re not gonna tip me.”

Source: TikTok/@alexawillissSource: TikTok/@alexawilliss

Another phenomenon that drives her nuts, “If someone is giving you free drinks on the house and then you don’t tip them. How does that logically make any sense to you?”

Alexa added, “I understand that inflation is high and everything is just getting more expensive, but you shouldn’t be going out if you cannot afford to tip your bartender. If you can afford a bunch of drinks, you can afford to tip your bartender. They live for their tips.”

There you have it!

The 5 Biggest Early Warning Signs Of A ‘Mini Stroke’

Folks may experience difficulty producing speech or finding the right words, Amin said. Words may come out slurred or jumbled, to the surprise of the speaker and their loved ones.

A TIA is an emergency, and anyone who experiences it should get medical attention right away. The good news is that “the risk of having a stroke can be decreased dramatically with targeted treatment,” explained Goldstein.

Doctors can run scans of the brain and blood vessels, evaluate heart function, and screen for cardiovascular risk factors that increase the risk of stroke, according to Amin.

“Treating conditions like plaque in the arteries, heart arrhythmias, hypertension, diabetes and others can dramatically lower the risk of a future stroke, which could lead to significant disability or even death,” he noted.

27 Reusable Products To Replace Pricey Disposables This Spring

Leaf Shave is an eco-minded small biz founded by two Adams who set out to create a better razor that is also better for the environment. Their packaging is 100% plastic-free, and through financing initiatives to offset 100% of the company’s CO2e emissions, they’ve become Climate Neutral certified.

I know, I know — $80+ for a razor feels pretty steep, but plastic razors really add up over time, and this thing is STURDY. When first trying to eco-swap my shave routine, I tried a regular safety razor because it was a lot cheaper, and I basically bled to death (kidding, but I did cut myself a lot). It works really well for some people, but I had really come to rely on the pivoting head of the plastic razors I learned on. So imagine my pure delight when I finally snagged one of these beauties and could return to shaving without all the cuts and blood. It’s really easy to change the blades, and I find myself getting a better shave because I’m not putting off buying another razor like I would before. It really is a great investment that not only keeps plastic razors out of landfills, but all the plastic packaging they come in, too!

Get it from Amazon or Leaf Shave for $84 (available in eight colors).

And if you’re looking for a low-waste skincare addition, check out their dermaplaning facial razor!
