She further captivated audiences with Om Shanti Om (2007), a reincarnation saga starring SRK and Deepika Padukone, set against the glamorous backdrop of 1970s Bollywood. Another major success was Chennai Express (2013), an action-comedy directed by Rohit Shetty, which became known for its engaging plot and humorous romance. In recent years, she has continued to produce noteworthy films like Dunki (2023) and Jawan (2023).

She said, “I’ve meticulously curated every detail — from selecting [colors] and materials to commissioning custom artwork and lighting. My vision was to create a space that exudes refined elegance,” in an interview with Indian Express.

Outside of the spotlight of her husband’s career, Gauri has a steady platform of her own, producing Bollywood films and managing her restaurant in Mumbai.

Was Amelia Earhart Found? Wreckage May Have Been Discovered

A grainy sonar image may indicate exactly where the legendary pilot met her end.

When she disappeared in 1937, Amelia Earhart was among the most famous pilots in the world. Of course, in the decades since her disappearance, Amelia’s legend has only continued to grow. Now, 87 years after her disappearance, it seems possible that she has finally been found.

Article continues below advertisement

Following the news that Amelia’s wreckage may finally have been discovered, plenty of new questions surfaced about what happened to her, and whether she has really been found. Here’s what we know about whether her wreckage has actually been discovered.

Article continues below advertisement

Was Amelia Earhart found?

Deep sea exploration company Deep Sea Vision claims that they have found the wreckage of Amelia Earhart’s plane.

“She’s America’s favourite missing person … she was a fantastic person, a pioneer in the aviation field, an early advocate for women’s rights and a terrific author,” Tony Romeo, the company’s CEO, said during a January 2024 interview with Reuters. “And so, if we can help bring closure to this story and bring Amelia home, we’d be super excited.”

Amelia became the first person to fly solo across the Atlantic in 1932, and was a widely known pilot until her disappearance. She went messing during an attempt at a round-the-world flight, and specifically during a hop from Papua New Guinea to Howland Island in the central Pacific Ocean. No trace of Amelia, her navigator Fred Noonan, or the plane they were flying has been found ever since.

In order to determine where she might have tracked, Tony said that they tracked Amelia’s flight path and altitude, the flying conditions on that day, and the radio calls that she made during the flight in which she indicated that she was running low on fuel.

“Each one of those radio calls gives us a really important clue as to what she was doing and what she was thinking, her intentions,” he explained.

Article continues below advertisement

Using that information, the company spent three months combing a massive area of the ocean floor with advanced deep sea equipment. Now, they’ve produced a result that is lying thousands of miles below the surface of the ocean and resembles the shape of Amelia’s plane.

“The twin vertical stabilizers in the back are very clear on the sonar image, and those are very distinctive of Amelia Earhart’s aircraft,” he said.

The image may be intriguing, but until a more thorough effort is made to find the sunk vessel, the mystery has not yet been solved. Tony’s team is reportedly planning to return to the area to do a more thorough expedition, but he warned that the expedition would be logistically challenging, and could take several years to pull off.

While there have been plenty of theories around what happened to Amelia, the likeliest explanation is that she crashed while attempting to find a relatively tiny island, and died as a result.

It may be fun to speculate about the mystery, but it seems like that speculation may soon come to a more definitive ending. If Tony’s timeline is to be believed, though, you have at least a couple more years to offer wild theories.

106 Surprising Things That Happened In 2024 So Far

36.

February 3: Sweetly Seasoned issued an apology for withholding a tip for a barber and hairstylist that was gifted by TikToker Keith Lee.

If you somehow missed the saga: Keith Lee visited a food truck in Dallas, TX called Sweetly Seasoned and noticed that a barber and hairstylist unaffiliated with the truck were working out of the same parking lot. The barber and hairstylist were friends of the Sweetly Seasoned owner’s son, and the hairstylist even helped fill orders that day.

To keep transactions simple, Keith tipped Sweetly $2,000 and asked that the owner hand out an additional $2,000 he’d be tipping through their system —$1,000 for the barber and $1,000 for the hairstylist.

The owner of Sweetly Seasoned, however, initially kept the entire $4,000. It wasn’t until later, after much backlash from the internet, that the owner seemingly begrudgingly agreed to issue give the barber and hairstylist their money.

‘Looks like a WWE champion’: What’s going on with Jojo Siwa’s new look and rebrand?

jojo siwa rebrand

Beloved internet personality Jojo Siwa has debuted a new look with efforts to rebrand, and long-time fans appear to be less than thrilled about it. Let’s break down the Jojo Siwa rebrand.

Jojo Siwa’s origins: “Jojo with the Bow Bow”

Jojo—originally known for her signature side ponytail and colorful, glittery makeup—rose to fame on Dance Moms and eventually became a judge on the reality show So You Think You Can Dance

She got her start under Abby Lee Miller’s dance tutilage and eventually landed at Nickelodeon, where she booked a major contract with the network, appearing on shows like The Thundermans and School of Rock, and the Kids Choice Awards.

But perhaps what she was known for the most was her brightly-colored style—from her style to her house to her tour bus—and for always wearing her hair in an extremely tight ponytail and accompanying gigantic bow. She certainly had a look, and didn’t deviate from it for quite some time.

Leaving her Nickelodeon child star in the past

In recent years, the star has begun making her own music, her latest of which she credits with ushering in her newest, darkest era—an era that is definitely not as child-friendly as her previous projects. The musician even went so far as to warn fans of this back in March, with an Instagram post saying, “The following content is not made for children.”

Fast forward to this week. While attending the iHeartRadio Music Awards this week, Jojo showed off her dramatic new look, featuring a black and silver glittering bodysuit and some intense makeup:

According to Jojo, the look is a direct reference to the music video for her upcoming new single, Karma, which can be seen in a recent teaser.

Backlash from Jojo’s fans

Regarding her rebrand, Jojo seems to already be expecting backlash from her fans, exclusively telling E! News on the red carpet, “People are afraid of things they don’t know. [New] things can be scary for people.”

She went on to tell Access Hollywood on the same red carpet that she’s looking to have a Miley Cyrus Bangerz moment, referencing the artist’s 2013 album release wherein Miley completely changed up her look and sound, breaking away from her Hannah Montana Disney Channel days in favor of a more edgy, adventurous persona. “She is my number one idol,” Jojo said of Miley. “I want to do what she did with Bangerz. I want to have that moment.”

The sudden switch in style has come as a shock to many of Jojo’s long-time fans, who are used to her more “child-friendly” look.

The Internet reacts to Jojo Siwa’s rebrand

Naturally, these fans have had many, many reactions (and jokes) about the rebrand and new era, taking to X to share their thoughts:

So, there you have it! Jojo’s new music video for Karma will be released April 5.

Cardi B And Ice Spice Cooled Off Rumors They Have Beef With A Cute Photo From ‘Vanity Fair’s Oscars Party

cardi b

You know how women in hip-hop keep telling us that all the supposed beef between them is all in fans’ heads?

Cardi B and Ice Spice just proved it.

The above picture was taken at Vanity Fair‘s annual Oscars party this year. Ice Spice sent it to Cardi on Twitter after Cardi asked if she could see it while engaged in an intense discussion of race with an influencer, Raymonte Cole (it’s a long story).

After Cardi and Raymonte referenced Ice Spice, the “Think U The Sh*t” rapper popped up herself to offer a correction. Not appearing to take offense in the slightest, Cardi politely requested, “Can you send me that pic you took of me wit ya camera from vanity fair? Thank youuu.” Ice obliged, and with that, hopefully ended about a year’s worth of utterly nonsensical rage-farming, Twitter trolling, and Stan war flame-fanning that has honestly been tired since before anyone even know who Ice Spice was.

Of course, the primary drivers behind the discourse discord, the Barbz, are losing their sh*t, but at this point, I would hope we have all learned they deserve precisely none of our collective attention, especially because that’s all they seem to want. Y’all can, like, join a bowling league or something. Of course, some fans are STILL trying to frame the whole exchange in antagonistic terms but I guess life is either really messy or really boring over there.

Anyway, now that Ice Spice has apparently been in direct proximity with both Cardi B and Latto without violence, perhaps my dream of a “girl rap” Avengers carrying Joe Budden directly to the dumpster his podcast takes belong in is one step closer.

Teenage girl shamed for her ‘distracting’ outfit fights back in a very funny way

A Lawton, Oklahoma, student who goes by the Facebook user name Rose Lynn had the last laugh after being sent home from school for wearing an outfit deemed “distracting.” Rose Lynn believes her outfit attracted the attention of school officials because of her figure.

She proved it by posting a photo on Facebook of her modest outfit, which consisted of black leggings, a t-shirt, long cardigan, and boots. In her post, she wrote that she was sent home “because I’m developed farther than the average girl my age,” and because she’s a “CURVY woman.” Rose Lynn also thinks the appropriate response shouldn’t have been to tell her to cover up, but to teach boys to “to respect the boundaries of young ladies.”

Her father, Lance Miles, agrees with her. “If she was built like a board or as round as a ball she wouldn’t have been sent home but [since] she has a figure she was told she had to change,” he said in the comments of her Facebook post.

“This is 100 percent on [Lawton Public Schools] because they have left the rule up to interpretation. She has been taught that if you believe in something, do what you must and be prepared for the consequences. She has done that,” he continued.

Rose Lynn’s post:

“So today I was sent home from class, after being in school for two hours, for my outfit. Because I’m developed farther than the average girl my age, I am required to go home and change… Because I look like a CURVY woman and may distract young boys, I have to miss class and change my outfit.

So once again, society has failed to advocate young ladies, by confining them in a box, where they are stripped from their sense of self respect and self expression, rather than teaching young men to respect the boundaries of young ladies. My response: #Feminism #YoullDistractTheBoys #SocietyIsFailing”

school policy, sexism, women, Oklahoma

On the day Rose Lynn was sent home, she was due to take a 20-minute algebra exam. She asked school officials if she could take the test before changing her outfit, but her request was denied. So the next day, she got her revenge.

Rose Lynn returned to school wearing an oversize t-shirt. On the front she scribbled a quote from school officials in black Sharpie, “It doesn’t cover your crotch”; on the back, “You’ll distract the boys.” That day, Rose Lynn was called to the office and sent home again. This time it wasn’t for her outfit but for not wearing her student I.D., which she had left in the classroom after being called to the office.

See what researchers found when they tested a bottle of Fiji Water against a glass of tap water.

The Story of Bottled Water

www.youtube.com

Here are six facts from the video above by The Story of Stuff Project that I’ll definitely remember next time I’m tempted to buy bottled water.

1. Bottled water is more expensive than tap water (and not just a little).

via The Story of Stuff Project/YouTube

A Business Insider column noted that
two-thirds of the bottled water sold in the United States is in individual 16.9-ounce bottles, which comes out to roughly $7.50 per gallon. That’s about 2,000 times higher than the cost of a gallon of tap water.

And in an
article in 20 Something Finance, G.E. Miller investigated the cost of bottled versus tap water for himself. He found that he could fill 4,787 20-ounce bottles with tap water for only $2.10! So if he paid $1 for a bottled water, he’d be paying 2,279 times the cost of tap.

2. Bottled water could potentially be of lower quality than tap water.

Fiji Water ran an ad campaign that was pretty disparaging about the city of Cleveland. Not a wise move. The city ordered a test of the snooty brand’s water and found that Fiji Water contained levels of arsenic that weren’t seen in the city’s water supply.

How was that possible? Sarah Goodman of the New York Times explains:

” Bottled water manufacturers are not required to disclose as much information as municipal water utilities because of gaps in federal oversight authority. Bottom line: The Food and Drug Administration oversees bottled water, and U.S. EPA is in charge of tap water. FDA lacks the regulatory authority of EPA.”

3. The amount of bottled water we buy every week in the U.S. alone could circle the globe five times!

That sounded like it just had to be impossible, so we looked into it. Here’s what our fact-checkers found:

“According to the video, ‘ People in the U.S. buy more than half a billion bottles of water every week.’ National Geographic says for 2011, bottled water sales hit 9.1 billion gallons (roughly 34 billion liters).

A ‘typical’ water bottle is a half-liter, so that’s about 68 billion bottles per year. Divided by 52 weeks would be a little over 1 billion bottles of water sold per week in the U.S. Because that’s based on a smaller ‘typical’ bottle size, it seems reasonable that a half billion bottles a week could be accurate.

The Earth is about 131.5 million feet around, so yep, half a billion bottles of varying sizes strung end-to-end could circle the Earth five times.”

4. Paying for bottled water makes us chumps.

Beverage companies have turned bottled water into a multibillion-dollar industry through a concept known as manufactured demand. Bottled water advertisements used a combination of scare tactics (Tap water bad!) and seduction (From the purest mountain streams EVER!) to reel us in.

Well, we now know their claims about the superior quality of bottled water are mostly bogus. And research shows that anywhere from a quarter to 45% of all bottled water comes from the exact same place as your tap water (which, to reiterate, is so cheap it’s almost free).

5. Bottled water is FILTHY.

It takes oil — lots of it — to make plastic bottles. According to the video, the energy in the amount of oil it takes to make the plastic water bottles sold in the U.S. in one year could fuel a million cars. That’s not even counting the oil it takes to ship bottled water around the world.

And once we’ve guzzled our bottled water, up to 80% of the empty bottles end up in landfills or noxious-gas-producing incinerators. The rest is either recycled or shipped to countries like India where poor people without environmental and labor protections have to deal with it.

On top of all that, the process of manufacturing plastic bottles is polluting public water supplies, which makes it easier for bottled water companies to sell us their expensive product.

6. There are 750 million people around the world who don’t have access to clean water.

A child dies every minute from a waterborne disease. And for me, that’s the core of what makes bottled water so evil.

The video wraps by comparing buying bottled water to smoking while pregnant. That may sound extreme, but after learning everything I just did about the bottled water industry, I can’t disagree.

If you’re properly disgusted, here are a few ways you can help destroy the bottled water industry:

  1. Don’t buy bottled water. Get a reusable water bottle. The savings will add up.
  2. Rally your schools, workplaces, and communities to ban bottled water.
  3. Demand that your city, state, and federal governments invest in better water infrastructure.

Stop Peeing “Just In Case” with Expert Advice

Urinary incontinence, or a loss of bladder control, is a common (if still under-discussed) issue, affecting anywhere between 10 and 36% of adults — especially those over 60 and especially women.

There are various forms incontinence can take, such as stress incontinence (when urine leaks in response to pressure on your bladder, like when you cough, sneeze, or lift something heavy) or urge incontinence (when you feel a sudden urge to pee, followed by an involuntary loss of urine).

If you’re grappling with those forms of incontinence, or if you’re having frequent UTIs or feeling like you can’t fully void, it is important to reach out to your primary care physician or a urologist, Rivera said. They can help get at the root cause and tailor a treatment that can help.

And that definitely might include behavioral changes, like scheduled toilet trips and targeted bladder training. For some people, the “just in case” pee might be an important part of their routine. But again, an expert can really help you figure out what’s best.

“There are techniques that help strengthen the muscles around the urethra to help prevent leakage of urine,” Rivera said.

“There are also techniques that involves squeezing the sphincter muscle … when you’ve got the urge to go, and there is a reflex in the bladder that tells it to kind of quiet down until you’re ready to go to the bathroom,” he explained. “Those are techniques that we do train patients to do, and they’re actually quite effective to help patients maintain their urinary control.”

For everyone else, common sense really wins. When possible, just pee when you feel like you have to.

What Is Battling on TikTok? Explaining the Divisive Trend

Battling may not be the most effective use of a user’s money, but it’s great for TikTok and influencers.

The most common features of TikTok are likely familiar to most users. The platform is in essence a never-ending series of pre-recorded videos that have been algorithmically designed to appeal to your particular interests. Lately, though, some have noticed that other forms of video have also become popular on the platform.

TikTok LIVE Battles are one of the newer ways that streamers can entertain you. In these battles, streamers compete with one another and solicit donations from those watching. Here’s what we know about the battles, and why they’ve become so controversial on TikTok.

What is battling on TikTok?

TikTok has long had a livestreaming mode, but more and more prominent users are taking advantage of the LIVE Match mode, which pits two users against one another and declares a winner based on which user can draw the most gifts within a five minute span. The idea of soliciting gifts is not new to the world of livestreams, but this new competitive mode gives users an even stronger incentive to donate to the streamer they like most.

When the feature first emerged, streamers often did something in order to prove that they were worthy of a gift. That might have been performing a song or dance. More recently, though, the trend has shifted so streamers spend most battles trash talking one another and encouraging their fans to donate.

Article continues below advertisement

“I have seen so much of TikTok [battles] where the entire five minutes are just them egging viewers on, pleading for a donation,” Curtin University Professor Crystal Abidin said. “So, that makes it interesting for studying because, on the one hand, you might think, ‘Hey, that’s mundane [and] not a lot of effort’. Yet on the other hand, there are still people supporting these livestreams and are happy to put their money behind these TikTok creators.”

Gifts are a win for streamers and TikTok.

If users are willing to part with their money this way, understanding that there will be very little in the way of a reward, it makes sense for both streamers and TikTok itself to take advantage of that. TikTok benefits enormously, taking as much as 70 percent of the money being donated to a particular streamer, while the streamer themself gets the remaining piece of the pie.

These gifts are purchased through coins that you have in your TikTok account, and are purchased with actual cold hard cash.

Although these battles may not seem enormously beneficial to individual users, they have major upside for influencers. TikTok has made a conscious effort to find ways to ensure that influencers are able to make money on the platform, in large part to discourage them from leaving.

Although plenty of TikTok users don’t participate in these kinds of battles, it’s clear that it’s become a workable revenue stream for some. Until that changes or TikTok becomes a fundamentally different platform, we can expect that TikTok battles will continue, potentially even for years to come.

Researchers studied kindergarteners' behavior and followed up 19 years later. Here are the findings.

Every parent wants to see their kid get good grades in school. But now we know social success is just as important.

From an early age, we’re led to believe our grades and test scores are the key to everything — namely, going to college, getting a job, and finding that glittery path to lifelong happiness and prosperity.

It can be a little stressful.

But a study showed that when children learn to interact effectively with their peers and control their emotions, it can have an enormous impact on how their adult lives take shape. And according to the study, kids should be spending more time on these skills in school.

Nope, it’s not hippie nonsense. It’s science.

Kindergarten teachers evaluated the kids with a portion of something called the Social Competence Scale by rating statements like “The child is good at understanding other’s feelings” on a handy “Not at all/A little/Moderately well/Well/Very well” scale.

The research team used these responses to give each kid a “social competency score,” which they then stored in what I assume was a manila folder somewhere for 19 years, or until each kid was 25. At that point, they gathered some basic information about the now-grown-ups and did some fancy statistical stuff to see whether their early social skills held any predictive value.

Here’s what they found.

1. Those good test scores we covet? They still matter, but maybe not for the reasons we thought.

Back To School GIF by IFC – Find & Share on GIPHY

education, research, competency, kids

Traditional thinking says that if a kid gets good grades and test scores, he or she must be really smart, right? After all, there is a proven correlation between having a better GPA in high school and making more money later in life.

But what that test score doesn’t tell you is how many times a kid worked with a study partner to crack a tough problem, or went to the teacher for extra help, or resisted the urge to watch TV instead of preparing for a test.

The researchers behind this project wrote, “Success in school involves both social-emotional and cognitive skills, because social interactions, attention, and self-control affect readiness for learning.”

That’s a fancy way of saying that while some kids may just be flat-out brilliant, most of them need more than just smarts to succeed. Maybe it wouldn’t hurt spending a little more time in school teaching kids about the social half of the equation.

2. Skills like sharing and cooperating pay off later in life.

Adam Sandler Pee GIF – Find & Share on GIPHY

friendship, movies, GPA, emotional maturity

We know we need to look beyond GPA and state-mandated testing to figure out which kids are on the right path. That’s why the researchers zeroed in so heavily on that social competency score.

What they found probably isn’t too surprising: Kids who related well to their peers, handled their emotions better, and were good at resolving problems went on to have more successful lives.

What’s surprising is just how strong the correlation was.

An increase of a single point in social competency score showed a child would be 54% more likely to earn a high school diploma, twice as likely to graduate with a college degree, and 46% more likely to have a stable, full-time job at age 25.

The kids who were always stealing toys, breaking things, and having meltdowns? More likely to have run-ins with the law and substance abuse problems.

The study couldn’t say for sure that strong or poor social skills directly cause any of these things. But we can say for sure that eating too much glue during arts and crafts definitely doesn’t help.

3. Social behaviors can be learned and unlearned — meaning it’s never too late to change.

social behavior, social skills, learning, positive social traits

The researchers called some of these pro-social behaviors like sharing and cooperating “malleable,” or changeable.

Let’s face it: Some kids are just never going to be rocket scientists. Turns out there are physical differences in our brains that make learning easier for some people than others. But settling disputes with peers? That’s something kids (and adults) can always continue to improve on.

And guess what? For a lot of kids, these behaviors come from their parents. The more you’re able to demonstrate positive social traits like warmth and empathy, the better off your kids will be.

So can we all agree to stop yelling at people when they take the parking spot we wanted?

But what does it all mean?

This study has definite limitations, which its researchers happily admit. While it did its best to control for as many environmental factors as possible, it ultimately leans pretty heavily on whether a teacher thought a kid was just “good” or “very good” at a given trait.

Still, the 19-year study paints a pretty clear picture: Pro-social behavior matters, even at a young age. And because it can be learned, it’s a great “target for prevention or intervention efforts.”

The bottom line? We need to do more than just teach kids information. We need to invest in teaching them how to relate to others and how to handle the things they’re feeling inside.

Ignoring social skills in our curricula could have huge ramifications for our kids down the road.
