‘How?’: Woman drives next to police officer. Then, she gets a DM from a private Instagram

A woman says she drove next to an attractive police officer. Then, the next day she received an Instagram direct message from a private account. As it turns out, the mystery cop tracked her down.

TikTok user Jocelin (@jocelincarba) says the other day, she was driving home from work and was forced to take an alternative route due to traffic. “As I’m driving, I see a cop come up next to me,” she says. “So I’m like looking over, and he’s like singing or something. I look over at him and smile, and I’m like, ‘Oh my gosh. He’s actually really cute.’ And he smiles back.”

Immediately, Jocelin says she wished the police office would pull her over. “But not so he can write me a ticket, obviously, so he can ask for my number,” Jocelin says. “But he doesn’t, so I just drive off. Literally, as soon as I get home, I text my girlfriend, and I’m like I just saw the hottest cop, I literally just fell in love with him.”

The next day at work, Jocelin says she noticed she had a follow request on Instagram. “I’m like, who is this? I normally don’t get new followers,” she says. “But his account was private. So I was like I don’t know who this is, but I requested it anyways. And I see that it’s the cop.”

Jocelin says she determined it was the same person because the cop has a distinct facial feature. “I’m scrolling through his Instagram, trying to see if he posts cop stuff, like you know obviously all cops love talking about being cops,” she says. “No way he found my account. So obviously I DM him. I’m like, ‘How did you find my Instagram?’ Obviously, he wouldn’t tell me. But then he asked me out on a date, and then he ghosted me. So.”

In the caption, Jocelin wrote, “typical cop.”

The video amassed more than 34,000 views as of Wednesday morning. In the comments section, users suggested how the cop might have found that information.

“He probably ran ur plates & found ur name thru that … so creepy you dodged a bullet,” suggested one user.

A second user agreed. “He def. ran your plates which is crazy,” they wrote.

According to J.D. Power, cops can legally scan license plates for various reasons “as long as they have reasonable suspicion to do so,” because your license plate number is considered public information.

When cops do this without probable cause or for a personal reason, they run into legal issues. In 2016, a woman sued a Chicago police officer who used the personal information on her speeding ticket to ask her on a date. The same year, a New Jersey state police trooper was arrested for pulling women over for the express purpose of asking them on dates.

The Daily Dot reached out to Jocelin via TikTok direct message for comment.

What Makes A Safari ‘Animal-Friendly’ And How Can You Ensure Your Next One Is?

Lola Safari

Going on a safari is at the top of many travelers’ bucket lists — and for good reason. Getting the chance to see wildlife in their natural habitat up-close-and-personal is phenomenal and for many travelers, a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Obviously, safaris are often unpredictable and are dictated by weather and the whereabouts of the wildlife — which is part of what makes them fun but has also led less ethical companies down a path of controlling variables by manipulating natural conditions.

Truly ethical safaris don’t interfere with the animals’ habitat or cause animals any direct harm. In short, they don’t impede wildlife at all. Many of the animals that folks want to see while on safaris in African countries such as Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, and South Africa are endangered species, meaning they aren’t hanging out all over the place. But their endangered status only serves to underscore the need to treat them with respect.

Safaris that support conservation can be a force for good and help contribute to the preservation of these at-risk animals. Here’s what makes a safari “animal-friendly” and how you can ensure yours is.

WHAT MAKES A SAFARI ANIMAL FRIENDLY

An animal-friendly safari bases its operations around the natural behavior of the animals — allowing guests to observe wildlife in their natural habitat from a respectful distance without causing them distress. Ethical safaris support conservation efforts by funding donations, educating participants about conservation in the areas they visit, and research partnerships. For instance, South African National Parks use funds from safaris to improve animal habitats and discourage poaching.

Animal-friendly safaris also adhere to strict interaction guidelines that respect the wildlife in its natural habitat by limiting how many vehicles can surround a group of animals, minimizing noise to avoid disturbing animals, limiting time in a location, and completely banning chasing, feeding, touching, or any other sort of interaction. If a safari tour operator allows any of these things that’s a major red flag, as this is all done to prevent causing the animal human-imposed stress which can alter behavior and impact the animals’ chances of survival.

“Safari jeep drivers should be respectful of when to drive and how close to get to animals. A safari jeep can interfere with a life cycle event by spooking a cheetah stalking a herd of Thompson’s Gazelles,” wildlife veterinarian Dr. Gabby Wild says.

HOW YOU CAN ENSURE YOUR SAFARI IS ANIMAL-FRIENDLY

Dr. Wild recommends looking for safari operators who donate to conservation organizations or who may even partner with them to assist in research, aiding injured wildlife, and management of threatened populations. “A giveback component to the land is a huge sign that the company cares for what they do,” she says.

Other signposts to look for are safari operators that only use UV-filtered spotlights on night drives to ensure wildlife won’t be harmed or startled by white light. To avoid overcrowding, travel with safari operators that visit game reserves and National Parks where limited permits are available daily.

“Some actions protect wildlife beyond the obvious measures. Certain animals are highly targeted by poachers, so we don’t disclose the exact locations of such wildlife in our photos or on social media. Poachers could use this information to track and hunt these highly targeted animals under the cover of night,” Sherwin Banda, President of African Travel Inc, says.

To make sure your safari is animal-friendly choose safari operators that don’t allow hands-on encounters such as walks with lions. The whole point of going on a safari is to be mesmerized by immersing yourself in the destination and having the opportunity to observe wildlife in its natural habitat — not forced interactions with exploited animals.

Prioritize going on safaris in lesser-visited parks. Rwanda’s Akagera National Park was once depleted and after over a decade of efforts now boasts a major increase in wildlife. It’s Central Africa’s largest protected wetland and has thriving populations of the Big Five — lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, and buffalo — as well as zebra, giraffe, antelope, and hundreds of bird species.

“Tourism contributes significantly to animal welfare as it brings financial investments to the destinations. By visiting these destinations, we not only protect wildlife but also provide economic benefits to local communities, particularly those working in rural areas, which can help support the sustainable protection of animal habitats,” Banda says.

TRY A GROUP-BASED ETHICAL SAFARI TOUR

It can be overwhelming trying to ensure the safari you’re booking is animal-friendly. Fortunately, many travel companies offer group safaris and have already done the grunt work to make certain safaris are prioritizing the conservation of wildlife.

Intrepid Group, the largest travel B Corp in the world, centers responsible travel and avoiding animal exploitation in all of its itineraries — especially African safaris. Intrepid’s Animal Welfare Policy was developed with World Animal Protection (WAP). Intrepid Group was the first major travel company to ban the sale of elephant rides. Three of its South African tours (starting at $1,055) stay overnight at the Black Mambas’ headquarters in South Africa outside of Kruger National Park. Guests join the all-female anti-poaching unit on a bushwalk to help search for snares. The Intrepid Foundation also donates to the organization.

G Adventures has a collection of 17 wildlife tours around the globe endorsed by ethologist Dr. Jane Goodall that are rooted in the company’s Animal Welfare Policy. African safaris in the collection include group trips to Tanzania, Madagascar, Rwanda, Botswana, and South Africa. G Adventures’ new luxury category, The Geluxe Collection, includes a South Africa trip ($6,299)where guests learn about wildlife tracking at the Pridelands Conservancy.

LOOK INTO PETA-CERTIFIED ANIMAL-FRIENDLY SAFARIS

PETA, the world’s largest animal rights organization, recognizes companies for their efforts to create animal-friendly safaris on protected reserves or in National Parks. PETA considers animal-friendly safaris to be small group tours that maintain a respectful distance from wild animals. All of the PETA-approved safari companies offer exclusively vegan menus, toiletries that weren’t tested on animals, linens that contain no animal ingredients, and no exposure to illicit trophy hunting.

On the PETA-approved list is Alluring Africa which partners with Vegans, Baby CEO and founder Diana Edelman on luxury vegan safaris ($7,650) focused on conservation. The company’s safari camp on the 320,000-acre Selinda Reserve in Botswana was a former hunting reserve and is now a hotspot for wildlife including large prides of lions, hyenas, leopards, and cheetahs.

Kings Camp ($850 a night for all-inclusive stays) in South Africa is recognized by PETA for its luxury safari in the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve. The camp faces an open savanna plain with an active waterhole frequently visited by wildlife. In Botswana, Vegan Safari Africa guests stay at the Deception Valley Lodge which used to be a massive cattle farm before it was rewilded to create corridors for migration, and waterholes.

SEEK OUT SAFARI OUTFITTERS THAT RESPECT THE ENVIRONMENT AND ECOSYSTEMS

In addition to PETA’s recommendations, there are several other do-good safari outfitters. Travelers interested in a safari experience that prioritizes the well-being of wildlife have many options.

My favorite safari outfitter that I’ve traveled with to date is Saruni Basecamp, a sustainable tourism company with solar-powered safari lodges. All-inclusive safaris start at $2,360. The 50,000-acre Naboisho Wildlife Conservancy in Kenya was the best game drive I’ve been on as it’s less visited, has an abundance of wildlife, and the Maasai guide was intimately acquainted with the land. I watched lions mate and a wildebeest be born. Basecamp established the Naboisho Wildlife Conservancy in 2010 through a long-term partnership with the Maasai people. Basecamp has also launched a local guiding school and exclusively employs local Maasai people at its lodges. The Basecamp Explorer Foundation projects include the reforestation of the Masai Mara, the Enjoolata education center, local waste collection in Talek, a women’s fair trade craft project, and more.

In Tanzania, Sababu Safaris makes bespoke itineraries with custom pricing and prioritizes responsible engagement with wildlife with a focus on social sustainability while visiting Kilimanjaro, Tarangire National Park, Southern Serengeti National Park, Lake Eyasi, and more. “Extensive research demonstrates responsible wildlife tourism sustains National Parks and wildlife conservancies and also bolsters the welfare of local communities,” Denise Brown, co-founder of Sababu says. Guests on Sababu Safaris help distribute water filters and solar lights to tribespeople.

Natural Habitat Adventures is the official travel partner of the World Wildlife Fund and is dedicated to all wildlife viewing experiences on their itineraries being ethical and nonthreatening to the animals. The flagship safari Secluded Botswana Safari ($16,495) takes travelers to see elephants, lions, buffalo, zebra, antelope, and more in the Okavango Delta, all from an ultra-quiet electric safari vehicle.

Woman Goes In For A Massage And Leaves Stressed When The Masseuse Insults The Tip She Left. – ‘She would expect a $20 to $30 tip.’

Source: TikTok/@heyitstaystewSource: TikTok/@heyitstaystew

A massage is meant to be a relaxing experience but let’s face it, they can also be quite pricey!

And it seems everyone wants tipped now, so even that time out from it all can just be more stress sometimes.

This is exactly the scenario @heyitstaystew found when she had a massage and was criticized for not tipping enough and that she hadn’t paid pre massage.

Not chill!

She told her followers on TikTok: “I really don’t consider myself to be a cheap person. I’m more than happy to tip, but I feel like tipping nowadays is just getting out of control.”

Source: TikTok/@heyitstaystewSource: TikTok/@heyitstaystew

As a woman in her 20s, she told how this massage was a serious treat but she had a budget and had to stay to it.

And she considered that a massage costing $80-an-hour was enough, without any financial extras.

When she got to the massage parlor the worker wanted her to pay before the service.

Source: TikTok/@heyitstaystewSource: TikTok/@heyitstaystew

She said: “So I pay the $80 with my card. She passes me back a slip of paper to write my tip on it. So I write down $5. I passed back the slip, and she goes, ‘That’s it?’”.

But the worker said she would expect a $20 to $30 tip. Ouch.

When the TikToker said that was too much, the worker told her:  ‘Well, the girls here work really hard.’

Source: TikTok/@heyitstaystewSource: TikTok/@heyitstaystew

“I’m not questioning that at all. I’m sure they do, but that’s why I am already paying $80,” she told the woman.

But this just turned into awkwardness with the TikToker wanting to leave and the worker insisting she stay.

Amazingly in the end the TikToker had a good massage but she felt uneasy the whole way through it.

A massage should not leave someone feeling worse on the way out!

‘When you’ve lost Jon Favreau’: Pod Save America host calls out Biden’s response to World Central Kitchen deaths

jon favreau

Jon Favreau, a former Obama administration speechwriter, political commentator, and host of the popular Pod Save America podcast, called out President Joe Biden’s contradicting reactions to Palestinian casualties in the Israel-Hamas war, saying it makes him “look weak.”

Some see Favreau’s comment as a turning point, with established Democrats willing to speak out harshly against Biden over Israel.

On Wednesday, Favreau tweeted a link to a Politico article about Biden’s private reaction to Israel’s killing of seven World Central Kitchen aid workers. The outlet reported even though Biden is “privately enraged,” his administration “has no plans to change its policy toward Israel.”

Since the Oct. 7, 2023 attack on Israel, Biden has supported the country’s invasion of Palestine, made two public arms sales to Israel, and stood behind the nation despite rising international outrage.

Favreau tweeted that Politico’s story—and others like it—make Biden “look weak.”

“The President doesn’t get credit for being ‘privately enraged’ when he still refuses to use leverage to stop the IDF from killing and starving innocent people,” Favreau wrote. “These stories only make him look weak.”

Of course, Favreau isn’t alone in his criticism of Biden’s policy on Israel.

In February, Data for Progress found over two-thirds of American voters support a permanent ceasefire in Palestine—and protest vote campaigns for a ceasefire spread through many Democrat state primaries even after Biden won the party’s nomination, though they were frequently criticized by mainstream Democrats.

Vice President Kamala Harris called for a six-week ceasefire in March.

Some X users took Favreau’s tweet as a blow to Biden and the latest example of Democrats being more willing to criticize the president for his support of Israel.

“When you’ve lost Jon Favreau,” one X user tweeted.

“Losing JON FAVREAU is how you know Biden/dems are cooked,” another wrote.

“Jon Favreau welcome to the Palestine coalition,” another said.

In response to the stir his tweet caused, Favreau clarified his affinity for Biden on X.

“I’m voting for Joe Biden, campaigning for Joe Biden, love most of what Joe Biden has done,” Favreau wrote. “But hate his Israel policy and want it to change.”

Is Timothee Chalamet on The Kardashians Season 5?

Rumors swirl about the status of Kylie Jenner and Timothee Chalamet. And the answers may lie in ‘The Kardashians.’

We now know that The Kardashians Season 5 is coming in May 2024 but we want to know everything there is to know about it. A lot has changed in the world of the Kardashians since they first started Keeping Up With the Kardashians in 2007. Almost 20 years later, Kylie and Kendall are entrepreneurs, and Kylie is even a mother of two.

Kourtney, Khloe, and Kim seem to have sorted out much of their interpersonal drama as they settle down into the next phase of their lives as Kourtney is recently married and Kim is recently divorced. Now, Kylie Jenner is dating Timothee Chalamet, although there are rumors of a breakup. Regardless, will Timothee appear on Hulu’s The Kardashians?

Timothee Chalamet is likely not on ‘The Kardashians’ Season 5.

While there’s no way to know for sure until The Kardashians’ fifth season airs on Disney Plus, we have some hints to help us predict. Back when Timothee and Kylie went public with their relationship in Sept. 2023, the questions already began about whether he would consider appearing on the show. In the past, it’s been traditional for the Kardashian clan’s significant others to appear in their series.

At the time, an anonymous Hollywood insider told The Sun, “I don’t think he’s going to pop up on the reality show the way some of the other Kardashian suitors have, and I don’t think Kylie has any expectation that he would. It’s not how he rolls.”

He justified this by saying that Timothee will always prioritize his career first. “Timothee is very careful with his personal conduct in relationships because one dumb mistake can send everything he’s built down the toilet,” he said. “Timothee has a strong sense of boundaries and is obsessed with managing his reputation.”

Article continues below advertisement

All of this suggests that Timothee would likely not appear in The Kardashians, even if he was going strong with Kylie. The insider makes it clear that if Kylie was to impact his career negatively, he would choose his career. “Timothee does have this overwhelming passion to not just be a working actor but to be a major star, and he is one of the most competitive people you can meet in this business.

Article continues below advertisement

“The danger for Kylie is that if she ever gets in the way of Timothee’s goals, it’s all over,” he added. “But right now it’s full steam ahead.” That was over six months ago in Sept. 2023, but in the early months of 2024, rumors have been circulating that Kylie and Timothee split up.

Kylie didn’t attend any of Timothee’s Dune 2 events and when asked about him, she refused to discuss. That’s not what people in a happy relationship do, so it shouldn’t be long before we hear about some sort of split. It’s very possible that even if Timothee doesn’t appear on-screen in The Kardashians, talk of their relationship (and breakup) could still be part of Season 5’s story. This would also explain why they’re so mum about if they’re still together.
