Two siblings—Emma, 8, and Josh, 9—were playing together outside when they heard someone screaming in the distance.

At first, the young siblings from Stillwater, Oklahoma were overcome with fear. They didn’t know where the voice was coming from or who was yelling for help.

Emma and Josh followed the voice and realized it was coming from next door. They grabbed a chair, stood up on the seat and looked over the fence. That’s when they spotted a man pinned under the vehicle in his driveway.

It was their neighbor, who’d been making car repairs when his Jeep fell off the jack and immobilized him underneath.

Josh and Emma bolted inside their home and went running for their mom, Kristal, who called 911.

The trio returned back outside and remained by their neighbor’s side until deputies arrived.

Authorities say they expected to find the man deceased from being trapped under the monstrous weight of the Jeep.

Now, Emma and Josh are being called hometown heroes. Not only were they in the right place at the right time, but they acted on their instincts.

I’m an animal lover, but this seems like a bit much even to me.

KPIX 5 reports that two cats are living by themselves in a studio apartment in the Silicon Valley neighborhood of Willow Glen. As in, the two felines have the entire apartment completely to themselves. Louise and Tina are staying in a casita behind landlord David Callisch’s single- family home.

David, who spoke to KPIX 5, explained that the two cats belong to his friend’s daughter, Victoria Amith. Victoria is a freshman college student attending Azusa Pacific University in Southern California. As it turned out, Victoria wasn’t allowed to take her beloved cats with her to live in her dorm when she started school.

Victoria’s dad lives in the San Francisco Bay Area but his fiancée’s dog doesn’t get along with Louise and Tina. So, his “quirky” solution was to rent his pal David’s apartment on a temporary basis, beginning in July, so the cats would have a place to stay.

“People love their pets, they’re part of their family, so I wanted to help out my buddy,” David told KPIX 5. “He says, ‘Hey, would you mind if I — how about if I rented your place?’ I said, ‘Well, what do you mean?’ He says, ‘Well, you wouldn’t have to deal with people all the time if you rented it, and I could stick the cats there. I’m close, I could come visit.’ I said, ‘Really?’”

David feeds the cats every day, and Victoria visits them when she’s on school breaks. She intends this to only be a temporary solution until she finishes up her first school year and finds her own apartment.

An anonymous eighth grade student from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania is speaking out about the lunches being served in her school.

Since hers is the last lunch period of the day, the cafeteria is often sold out of many more quality options. Usually it’s the hamburgers that are the only main course left up for grabs.

But here’s the problem: she says the burgers aren’t exactly… appealing.

“The burgers are pink and they don’t look like they’re cooked at all,” she told WPMT. She says she’ll buy the burger, which comes with an orange, and then end up throwing everything away except for the fruit and milk. By the end of the school day, she’s usually starving.

Now her concerns are being shared by many other students and their parents, thanks to a viral photo showing one of these cafeteria hamburgers.

The unnamed student says yes, the burgers look like this every day…

The Duke of Edinburgh is at the center of a PR nightmare. But according to reports, he’s not backing down.

Prince Philip, the 97-year-old husband of Queen Elizabeth II, made headlines earlier this year when he was involved in a serious car accident that left him “shaken.” The royal was at the wheel of his Land Rover when he hit a Kia sedan while leaving the Queen’s Sandringham estate, causing his own vehicle to flip.

A witness to the crash told the BBC that he overheard the duke telling police that he had been “dazzled by the sun” when he pulled out onto the road, causing him to collide into the other car.

Thankfully, neither the royal nor the passengers in the Kia were seriously injured in the crash, though one woman did suffer a broken wrist. Despite that, the Queen is reportedly not thrilled with the idea of Prince Philip continuing to drive. He was pictured at the wheel of a car less than 48 hours after the highly-publicized crash.

“Philip is a law unto himself,” one source told Vanity Fair. “The Queen and Prince Charles have pleaded with him to stop driving on public roads. Charles particularly thinks it’s too dangerous, but Philip won’t be told. He loves the freedom he gets from being on the road, and he doesn’t want to be driven around. There is really only one person he listens to and that’s the Queen, and while I know she has had words in the past, I’m not sure she would ever insist he stops driving.”

Legally, Prince Philip is allowed to continue driving. He was required to take an eye exam as part of the police investigation of the crash, and he passed it, according to the Sunday Mirror.

Alysa Liu just made history!

The Northern California girl took home the gold during the U.S. Women’s Figure Skating Championship held in Detroit, Michigan, on Friday. At only 13 years old, Alysa’s win makes her the youngest U.S. women’s champion ever, according to People.

During her winning routine, the young teen managed to land two triple axels, an incredible feat in and of itself. Alysa is only the fourth American female who has managed to land even a single triple axel during a competition. Tonya Harding landed the first in 1991, Kimmie Meissner landed one in 2005, and most recently, Mirai Nagasu landed her own triple axel at the Winter Olympics in 2018. Alysa is the first female figure skater ever to successfully land two in a competition.

Alysa managed to beat out the 2018 champion, Bradie Tennell, who took silver this year. The bronze medal went to another star skater, 22-year-old Mariah Bell.

The young girl’s reaction to hearing her score of 217.51 — and realizing she’d taken first place — was adorably emotional and poignant. Even better, skating legend Tara Lipinski was on hand to congratulate the skating prodigy personally. Tara previously held the record as the youngest U.S. women’s champion after winning gold at age 14.

“Records are made to be broken […] It is quite an honor that she is the one to do it. What a phenomenal talent,” Tara said as a commentator during the event, according to ESPN.

Despite the fact that she won gold, Alysa is too young to compete in the upcoming world championships later this season. International events require a minimum age of 15, ESPN reports. This means that Alysa won’t be able to compete internationally until 2022 — which is, coincidentally, the year of the next Winter Olympics. But the 4-foot-7-inch Alysa is more than happy to wait for her moment in the spotlight.

“I’m not too worried about [waiting],” she told ESPN. “Because I get more time to work on my jumps, skating skills, spins, and just trying to learn more.”

Harold the pit bull was the longest shelter resident at the Grand Strand Humane Society (GSHS) in Myrtle Beach. So, when a family adopted him right before Christmas, the staff was overjoyed.

Their beloved Harold had finally found a home, and just in time for the holidays!

His happy ending didn’t take, though. The family who adopted Harold returned him to the shelter, saying he just “wasn’t the right fit” in their home. The team at GSHS was heartbroken but welcomed Harold back with open arms.

Then one evening, back at the shelter, a volunteer was taking Harold for his walk when he began acting very strangely. The dog was persistent, pulling the leash to a specific area beside a truck bed where the staff loads and moves its donations and supplies.

Harold circled the spot over and over again, focusing on a big plastic Tupperware container sitting on the ground. The volunteer kept trying to pull him back to the shelter, but he refused to leave the bin.

Curious, the volunteer opened up the plastic bin and peeked inside.

Perhaps this was the reason Harold was supposed to go back to the shelter, after all.

Christopher Landis is the choir director at Hingham Middle School in Massachusetts. He has become one of the most beloved teachers at the school.

One day, the choir noticed a man was coming by to see their teacher on a pretty regular basis. Whenever they asked who this man was, Christopher would simply reply, “That’s Joe. He’s my friend.”

In reality, Joe was Christopher’s partner and soon-to-be husband. But since he wasn’t sure how the kids or their parents would feel about him marrying a man, and feared it could impact their feelings toward him as a teacher, he refrained from telling the truth.

Then it came time for Christopher’s wedding rehearsal. During the event, he noticed a bunch of his guests had their phones out, ready to record something… but he didn’t know what.

It wasn’t until his choir students started flooding into the room, all dressed up, that he realized a secret plan had been in place.

The stunned teacher broke down in tears as 50 students serenaded him and Joe with their version of “All You Need Is Love.” As it turned out, Joe had been in on the surprise the whole time. Parents from the middle school caught wind of Christopher’s wedding and enlisted Joe to help with months of planning and secret rehearsals.

This video captures the moment Christopher realizes that not only do his students understand who Joe truly is to him, but that also they accept them and their new life together.

Jennifer Clark is constantly giving back to her community. The baker owns Jen’s Sweet Treats in Cudahy, Wisconsin, and is known throughout her community for giving back.

Jen delivered over 2,000 cupcakes to first responders on Thanksgiving. She donated boxes of food to a local shelter that serves female veterans for Christmas. She has also raised money for the family of a fallen police officer and done fundraising for a local youth football team to purchase a defibrillator. Currently, she’s working with Operation Bunny Hop, which puts together Easter baskets for underprivileged children.

Why is she always helping out her community? It’s simply how she was brought up, according to Jennifer. “If I am able to give back, that’s what I should do. I’m in a position to give back; I live frugally, I’m not materialistic, and I would rather give than receive,” she explained to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Members of the community have taken notice of Jen’s generosity. One of her customers, Jamyn Rukavina, decided to step in and do something nice for Jen. After helping Jen fix some issues with her car, he realized it was in bad shape, so he set up a GoFundMe to raise money to get her a new car. Her old 2001 Dodge Caravan had over 250,000 miles on it — it would overheat almost daily, it leaked oil, and it didn’t have heat to get her through brutal Wisconsin winters. Jamyn’s goal was to get a new set of wheels for this selfless baker.

Within a week, over 50 people had donated. In all, over $7,000 was raised. The community was able to get her a 2010 Dodge Caravan, which they surprised her with at Diamond Jim’s Motor Cars. Check out Jen’s reaction!
