Skyrim Grandma | Know Your Meme

About

Skyrim Grandma is the nickname given to YouTuber Shirley Curry, who is known for her The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Let’s Play videos. In 2019, Skyrim developer Bethesda announced that they would be including a character based on Curry in Elder Scrolls VI.

History

On October 18th, 2011, Curry joined YouTube to follow YouTubers like Vsauce and Jacksepticeye.

Four years later, on October 18th, 2015, Curry posted her first Let’s Play video, “SKYRIM eps 1.” Within four years, the post received more than 1.8 million views (shown below).

Over the next three years, Curry’s videos continued to receive hundreds of thousands of views. “Skyrim eps 2″ received more than 375,000 views and the video “SkyrimSE #1 Ganci The Redguard Warrior” received more than 200,000 views (shown below, left and right).

Elder Scrolls Character

On November 23rd, 2011, Change.org user Nick Popp launched the petition “Immortalize Shirley Curry as an NPC, unique weapon, or location in The Elder Scrolls VI.” They wrote in the post:

Shirley Curry is an 82 year old grandmother who runs her own channel on YouTube (with the help of her grandson). Shirley plays The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim as well as other first person RPG’s in away that is often received as fresh and gentle as well as entertaining and thoughtful. Sadly, the next Elder Scrolls game won’t be released until Shirley is 88 years old, which means that unfortunately, she may not get to play it. As Bethesda has demonstrated with another fan named Erik West, they are willing to include dedicated fans of their series into their games.

On March 29th, 2019, Bethesda published a video entitled “Celebrate 25 Years of The Elder Scrolls.” In the video, they mention the campaign and announced that they would be including Shirley Curry in the game.

On March 29th, 2019, Curry posted a video on Twitter of herself with Bethesda-owner Todd Howard. She wrote in the post, “Well, since they made the announcement today about me, as a character in the next TES game …I can show my favorite thing I brought away with me!!!” The post received 11,000 retweets and 47,000 views in less than one week (shown below).

Moms Are Flabbergasted After Reading Hospital’s Instructions For New Mothers From 1968

Parenthood has seriously changed since 1968, as this viral set of instructions makes very clear.

Facebook user Micala Gabrielle Henson came across a list of rules for new mothers, written by a hospital in 1968. She thought the list was “hilarious and crazy,” and people agreed — the post quickly went viral.

Some of the instructions on the list are clearly outdated. One rule states that no fathers are allowed on the delivery floor during nursing times, and no smoking is allowed while the baby is in the hospital room (other times it’s totally cool, though!).

Other instructions on the list are so foreign that they’re honestly hard to understand.

“During first twenty-four hours, allow baby to nurse 5 minutes only,” reads one instruction. Yes, you read that correctly. Five minutes of nursing. That’s it!

Also, new moms had to adhere to a long list of forbidden foods.

“DO NOT EAT CHOCOLATE CANDY, RAW APPLE, CABBAGE, NUTS, STRAWBERRIES, CHERRIES, ONIONS, OR GREEN COCONUT CAKE,” the instructions say.

People Are Praising This Teacher for Putting a Mental Health “Check-In” Board in Her Classroom

A teacher’s gone viral for a very cool reason: she set up a board in her classroom that allows student to express how they’re feeling.

I grew up in a family where kids were expected to just shut up and do what their parents said. Which is why I loved school, for the most part, when I was a child.

Sure, you were expected to sit down and generally keep quiet, but I had some amazing teachers who really knew what they were doing.

What separated these teachers from the rest was the fact that they went out of their way to attune their teaching styles to my needs. Was I feeling OK that particular day? How was I doing with the source material? What were my thoughts and honest feelings about the day’s lesson?

That’s probably why I’m loving this board Tara Mitchell Holman put up in her classroom.

Nervous Pregnant Woman Breaks World Record For Singing Lowest Note After Weeks Of Practice

Helen Leahey, a 31-year-old woman from Wales, has always loved her deep, booming voice – despite the fact people often mistake her for a man and/or someone much, much older.

Helen began her career in the arts by taking on acting roles that required a sense of “authority,” since her particularly low voice wasn’t considered “feminine enough.”

Over time, however, she realized she could use her extraordinary voice to her advantage. She has been a professional singer for the past five years and even appeared on the German version of “The Voice.”

One day, Helen found herself reminiscing about her fascination with the Guinness World Record books as a little girl. She’d flip through the pages and imagine her name somewhere inside.

That’s when she realized she had a real chance at breaking the world record for hitting the lowest note ever.

Determined to break the record and get her name in the Guinness World Record book, she spent weeks practicing strict vocal exercises to prepare for her big attempt.

But Helen, who is currently eight months pregnant with her first child, said hitting those low notes was difficult since there was less space in her lungs. She wasn’t sure if that was because of her growing baby, the hormones or a combination of both.

In the clip below, Helen finally steps up to the mic at a recording studio in Germany.

After weeks of preparation, the sound technicians eagerly waited to hear if she could actually break the world record.

Guys Got Really Upset About Tinder’s Height Verification April Fools’ Joke

Yesterday was April Fools, and perhaps one of the best announcements came from Tinder. They jokingly announced that they were introducing “height verification” to stop men adding a few extra inches on to their profile.

Tinder dropped the news a little ahead of the ball on Friday, leading many to believe that the feature was actually real.

“It’s come to our attention that most of you 5’10ers out there are actually 5’6,” the statement read. “The charade must stop. This type of dishonestly doesn’t just hurt your matches — it hurts us, too.”

They added that the feature was intended to “require everyone under 6’ to own up to their real height. We’re bringing truthfulness back into the world of online dating.”

Teen Has Seizures And Dies After Doctors Find Tapeworm Eggs In Brain From Fatal Pork Mistake

An 18-year-old from India checked into the emergency room complaining about a sharp and sudden pain in his groin. The young man, who had also suffered seizures, arrived at the hospital in a dazed and confused state with swelling over his eye. His case was published in a recent study by the New England Journal of Medicine.

Doctors immediately treated him. Scans and tests confirmed the presence of lesions in his brain and cysts in his right eye and groin.

Despite the medical team’s tireless efforts to save his life, the unnamed teen passed away from his illness two weeks later.

So, what had actually caused all this?

Doctors had diagnosed the young man with neurocysticerosis, which is a parasitic infection of the central nervous system. He had parasites in his brain; the cysts that doctors initially detected were actually larval cysts formed by tapeworm eggs that spread throughout his brain and other parts of his body.

Neurocysticercosis is a preventable infection that occurs when someone consumes a tapeworm while eating undercooked food… and one type of food in particular, as you’ll see in the video below. Now, this tragic story is being used as a cautionary tale for meat-eaters everywhere.

Australia Is Preventing Anyone Found Guilty of Domestic Violence From Entering the Country

The changes, which took effect in February, are an effort to make Australia safer according to the government.

“Australia has no tolerance for perpetrators of violence against women and children,” Federal Minister for Immigration, Citizenship and Multicultural Affairs David Coleman said in a public statement. “The message is clear: if you’ve been convicted of a violent crime against women or children, you are not welcome in this country, wherever the offence occurred, whatever the sentence.”

“This means when considering a case, the decision-maker or AAT member must consider all crimes against woman and children as serious and abhorrent crimes, regardless of the length of sentence imposed by the courts,” the statement said. “The direction further specifies that in these circumstances, individuals should generally expect to be denied the privilege of coming to, or to forfeit the privilege of staying in Australia.
