“It’s just so crazy to be a couple and have our first nominations together.”

The 2022 Academy Award nominations were just announced, and I’m sure you have plenty of opinions.

Here are some of mine: Passing was snubbed, Lady Gaga was not snubbed (sorry), and justice was served for Kristen Stewart.

One thing we can all find lovely is that Kirsten Dunst and Jesse Plemons — a real life couple — got their first ever nominations for their work in The Power of the Dog.

They are nominated for Best Actor and Actress in a Supporting Role.

Kirsten and Jesse, who have been together since 2016 and have two children, played Rose Gordon and George Burbank, who get married despite the disapproval of George’s brother, Phil (Benedict Cumberbatch).

Kirsten told Variety how she found out about her nomination, which she says involved a lot of screaming and crying.

“It just…it feels so good to be honored by the community you’ve worked in for so long, you know?” she said.

She shared that she got to give Jesse the news of their nominations, saying that it is “like a storybook” to be nominated together.

The Power of the Dog is the most nominated film this year with 12 nominations, including Best Actor for Benedict Cumberbatch, Best Director for (legend) Jane Campion, and of course, Best Picture.

Jesse and Kirsten aren’t the only power couple to have matching his and hers nominations this year! Penélope Cruz and Javier Bardem are also nominated for their respective performances in Parallel Mothers and Being the Ricardos.

You know what they say: the couple that gets nominated for Oscars together, stays together.
