“A friend I’ve known since preschool was moving cross country. She was going to be making the drive alone and wanted company, so I flew out to California from Pennsylvania. I paid my own way for flights, food, [and] entertainment along the way. The only thing she paid for was the hotels. I was on a tight budget but was happy to help my friend. Well, she started getting mad at me for eating small, budget-friendly meals. She would constantly brag about her Porsche and insist on taking photos of it at each place we stopped.”
“She also had a horse shipped home to New Jersey from California. The horse arrived there before we did, so each day, she was micromanaging her mom on how to take care of the horse. I asked if she wanted to expedite our drive so she could get there sooner to settle her horse in, and she said, ‘Oh no, my mom is taking care of it all.’ At the end of the trip, I found out every expense she had was being covered by her dad’s business. There was more, but these are just the highlights! Total mess of a trip and end of a friendship.”
