Yoda In Shackles “Welcome To Your New Home, Freak” refers to a frame from a Marvel Star Wars comic book that depicts the character Yoda imprisoned and someone outside the frame telling him “Welcome to your new home, freak.”
Origin
On January 25th, 2017, Marvel comics released the 27th issue of Star Wars, written by Jason Aaron and illustrated by Salvador Larroca (cover below, left). In the comic, mysterious captors imprison Yoda. Outside of the frame, someone tells Yoda, “Welcome to your new home, freak” (shown below, right).
Spread
On August 12th, 2018, Tumblr user dreadshredder posted the frame of Yoda in shackles. The post received more than 6,000 notes in less than three years (shown below).
Later that year, on July 23rd, Twitter user @Embotronic shared the image with the caption “this is why Disney bought star wars. The post received more than 1,900 likes and 200 retweets in less than one year (shown below, center).
As the image grew in popularity, some began using the phrase to caption other images of Yoda and other imprisoned characters. For example, on December 18th, Twitter user @_girltype shared an image of Baby Yoda in shackles with the caption (shown below, right).
