Does Taylor Swift follow any one religion?

Taylor has made her personal beliefs regarding organized religion very well known, particularly in her 2020 documentary Miss Americana. During a candid reflection moment, Taylor made it clear that she was raised a Christian, but that her beliefs in association with the religion tend to differ from its traditional norms. Mainly, this includes Taylor’s support of the LGBTQ+ community as well as support for abortion access, two topics that traditionalist Christian values tend to disagree with.

In the aforementioned film, Taylor spoke in-depth about the moment when she made her political beliefs known. In 2018, she shared her endorsement for Democratic candidate Phil Bredesen in that year’s Tennessee Senate race, where he faced off against conservative Republican Marsha Blackburn.

As for what caused her to break away from her previous apolitical public persona, Taylor said, “This was a situation where, from a humanity perspective and from what my moral compass was telling me I needed to do, I knew I was right, and I really didn’t care about repercussions.”

When arguing with those close to her about the repercussions of sharing her political beliefs on social media at the time, Taylor said, “I can’t see another commercial and see Marsha Blackburn disguising these policies behind the words ‘Tennessee Christian values.’ Those aren’t ‘Tennessee Christian values.’ I live in Tennessee. I’m a Christian. That’s not what we stand for.”

Taylor Swift has spoken out in support of abortion access.

Although Taylor is a Christian, she has adamantly supported something that traditionalist Christians often stand firmly against: abortion. In a 2019 interview with The Guardian where she discussed her disdain for former President Trump and the current conservative movement in U.S. politics, Taylor noted that she supports abortion rights and wants to bolster political candidates who will expand access to it.

“I mean, obviously, I’m pro-choice,” she said at the time. “I can’t believe we’re here. It’s really shocking and awful. And I just wanna do everything I can for 2020. I wanna figure out exactly how I can help.”

If one thing is clear from all of this, it’s that Taylor has established her own relationship with faith. Although her beliefs deviate from some of Christianity’s traditional values, she stands firm in her faith and the causes she supports.
