This week my column explores what the Census tells us about same-sex couples in Australia. Just how much more likely are lesbian couples to have kids compared to gay couples? Did you know that retired same-sex
couples are volunteering at record rates? Let’s not act surprised when we learn that same-sex couples turned their backs to religion at high rates. I wrote previously about the outrageously high rate of young people experiencing chronic poor mental health. Same-sex couples experience poor mental health at twice (!) the rate of opposite-sex couples. There is so much to unpack that I turned this into a two part column. Next week we’ll explore employment, education, and income data.
