Tim Tebow will soon be a married man!
The former NFL star and current New York Mets outfielder popped the question to his girlfriend, Miss Universe 2017 Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters. Tim revealed the couple’s big news in a post on Instagram.
“Thank you for saying YES and making me the happiest man in the world. You’re the love of my life, and I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with you,” he captioned the post.
The pro athlete shared three photos from the surprise engagement, taken by Kelly Braman Photography. Two of the photos showed off the massive 7.25-carat solitaire diamond engagement ring Tim gave to the 23-year-old South African beauty queen.
The couple opened up to People about the details of the surprise engagement. Tim brought his girlfriend to his family’s farm outside of Jacksonville, Florida, at sunset on January 9. The 31-year-old former quarterback dropped to his knee next to a bench he’d had made and engraved with the date the two had first met. Tim surprised his new fiancée with a serenade by South African singer Matthew Mole. Then he revealed that he’d secretly flown in Demi-Leigh’s family and close friends from South Africa to Florida to watch the engagement and celebrate with them after.
“I actually wasn’t really nervous,” Tim told People. “I was excited. I wanted everything to be perfect and to go smoothly. But I wasn’t nervous to actually ask her.”
“I’m so excited for the wedding, and I can’t wait to spend forever with Tim,” Demi-Leigh said.
The pro athlete is known for his strong Christian faith and his commitment to remaining abstinent before marriage. He’d previously opened up about how important it was to him to find someone who shared his faith.
“I don’t want to be single; I’m ready to settle down and start a family. I want to have kids. I have so many things I want. No one will be happier than me when I finally find the right person,” Tim told People in 2017. “They have to really love God. My faith is important to me — it’s the most important thing — and I need to be with someone who also shares that faith.”
Now it seems he’s found that person in Demi-Leigh. Congrats to the happy couple!
