The Price of Happiness in Every Country

They say that money can’t buy happiness, but in 2018, Purdue University researchers discovered the exact income (at a continental level) at which a person’s well-being stops increasing. In other words, the amount of money needed to be content with your lot.

By converting these established figures back to local currencies with a purchasing power metric, our map breaks down the price of happiness in 173 countries. Iran puts the highest price tag on happiness ($239,700), while Sierra Leone is home to the lowest ($8,658).
