The importance of Askalan and Gaza as mentioned by Prophet Muhammad (SAW) in a Hadith,
And the historical words by Selahaddin were that “Askalan is the key of Kudus” as mentioned in episode 1.
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “The beginning of this matter is Prophecy and mercy, then it will be Caliphate and mercy, then it will be Kingship and mercy, then there will be Imarah and mercy, then they will fight over authority like fighting donkeys biting one another. So hold fast to jihad, and the best of your jihad is Ribat (i.e. guarding the frontier in the face of enemies), and the best and most virtuous of your Ribat is ‘Asqalan (Ashkelon).”
Although Ashkelon is now the name of a coastal city in the Southern District of ‘Israel’, in the past, after the Islamic conquest of Palestine, ‘Asqalan was synonymous with Gaza (غزة). In fact, as mentioned by Shaykh Salih al-Munajjid (see here), the area was known as “غزة عسقلان” (“Gaza Ashkelon”).

عسقلان اور غزوہ کی اہمیت جیسا کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے ایک حدیث میں بیان کیا ہے،
اور صلاح الدین کے تاریخی الفاظ یہ تھے کہ “اسکالان قدوس کی کنجی ہے” جیسا کہ قسط 1 میں مذکور ہے۔
رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: اس معاملے کی ابتدا نبوت اور رحمت ہے، پھر یہ خلافت اور رحمت ہوگی، پھر بادشاہی اور رحمت ہوگی، پھر امارت اور رحمت ہوگی، پھر اقتدار پر لڑائی کی طرح لڑیں گے۔ گدھے ایک دوسرے کو کاٹ رہے ہیں۔ پس تم جہاد کو مضبوطی سے پکڑو اور تمہارے جہاد میں سب سے افضل رباط ہے (یعنی دشمنوں کے مقابلے میں سرحدوں کی حفاظت کرنا) اور تمہاری سب سے افضل اور افضل ترین رباط عسقلان ہے۔
اگرچہ عسقلان اب اسرائیل کے جنوبی ضلع میں ایک ساحلی شہر کا نام ہے، ماضی میں، فلسطین پر اسلامی فتح کے بعد، عسقلان غزہ (غزہ) کا مترادف تھا۔ درحقیقت، جیسا کہ شیخ صالح المنجد نے ذکر کیا ہے، یہ علاقہ “غزة عسقلان” (“غزہ عسقلان”) کے نام سے جانا جاتا تھا۔

قال الطبراني – رحمه الله – في “المعجم الكبير” (11138) : حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ النَّضْرِ الْعَسْكَرِيُّ ، ثنا سَعِيدُ بْنُ حَفْصٍ النُّفَيْلِيُّ ، ثنا مُوسَى بْنُ أَعْيَنَ ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، عَنْ فِطْرِ بْنِ خَلِيفَةَ ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : ( أَوَّلُ هَذَا الْأَمْرِ نُبُوَّةٌ وَرَحْمَةٌ ، ثُمَّ يَكُونُ خِلَافَةً وَرَحْمَةً ، ثُمَّ يَكُونُ مُلْكًا وَرَحْمَةً ، ثُمَّ يَكُونُ إِمَارَةً وَرَحْمَةً ، ثُمَّ يَتَكادَمُونَ عَلَيْهِ تَكادُمَ الْحُمُرِ فَعَلَيْكُمْ بِالْجِهَادِ ، وَإِنَّ أَفْضَلَ جهادِكُمُ الرِّبَاطُ ، وَإِنَّ أَفْضَلَ رباطِكُمْ عَسْقَلَانُ )
