Japanese Dad Makes Breathtaking Sashimi Art For His Family To Teach His Kids To Appreciate Food

Dads are known for their ability to make a quick fix out of the materials at hand. One Japanese father of two has taken that concept to a whole other level. His name is Mikyou. He lives in Japan, in the port city of Matsuyama, Ehime Prefecture. Living in a city on the water offers easy access to fresh fish.

Seafood is already pretty integral to a Japanese diet, so Mikyou decided to get creative with how he made meals for this family. He turned nightly sashimi into a work of art, and now he’s sharing his creations with the internet.

Mikyou began his Instagram account in the summer of 2017. That was the same summer he began making the sashimi arrangements, as he explained to BuzzFeed News. He tried using different types of fish to make an arrangement he was familiar with. In researching how to accomplish this, he discovered sashimi art and taught himself.

How Did Ziva Die on ‘NCIS’? The Character’s Story Arc Has Been Filled With Twists

“I’m not in those conversations. Those are above my pay grade. So, smarter people than me are in charge of that stuff,” he said.

After leaving NCIS in Season 13, Michael Weatherly also expressed a desire to work with Cote again. “I absolutely see worlds where DiNozzo and other characters could pop up,” he told Digital Spy. “It is something I’m very keen to explore when the time is right … Whether or not it’s in [the CBS show] Bull or in some other iteration of an NCIS, I would say there’s always the chance.”

But getting Cote back on the series is easier said than done. In a 2016 interview, the 39-year-old admitted that disappointment over Ziva’s story arc prompted her exit.

“Unfortunately, because of political things and the scripts not being good enough, I chose not to [stay],” she shared. “I love this character. I worked eight years in crafting this character and loving her, so when I felt or I perceived the character was not being treated with the respect that she deserved, all the money in the world couldn’t buy [me].”

Widow Pays Contractor $8K To Fix Up Home, 1 Year Later She Walks In To Nothing But Drop Cloths

Susan Kuta’s home had a laundry list of issues that needed to be fixed. As she and her husband got older, the necessary repairs fell to the wayside and just they kept putting them off, like so many of us do.

Then Susan’s beloved husband suddenly passed away. The grieving widow found herself working two jobs just to stay in her Chicago home.

That long list of issues kept getting longer and longer… until Susan decided it was finally time to spruce up her home. She also felt that by completing the home repairs and putting time and money into making the house look and feel nicer, it would help her heal from the loss of her husband and find a better sense of balance in her time of grief.

Susan typed out a to-do list that included simple tasks like paint touch-ups, closet door adjustments and the tightening of loose railings. Her list also included more involved tasks like replacing electrical outlets and installing a new security system. She needed help and couldn’t do these things herself.

So, Susan hired a local contractor. At first, she said they had a great working relationship. He was professional and started ticking things off the to-do list. She always welcomed him into her home and even cooked for him so he wouldn’t go hungry while he worked.

Susan paid the contractor $8,000 upfront, which she took from her husband’s life insurance policy. Looking back, she realizes that was a mistake but attributes it to putting her trust in someone at a time when she was especially vulnerable.

Then one day, Susan’s contractor didn’t show up. As the weeks passed, he came less and less… until the interior was nothing but old furniture and half-finished projects covered in dusty drop cloths…

Middle School Boys Volleyball Team Saves Woman Who Was About To Jump Off A Bridge

Sometimes being in the right place at the right time can make all the difference. A team of middle school volleyball players from Fresno, California learned the power of that after an incredible incident. The boys from the Kepler Neighborhood School were meeting up for a Saturday team practice. Practice began with a routine warm-up run. The 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade boys could have never guessed what they’d encounter on that run.

While the boys were running, the noticed a woman climbing over the edge of the Tuolumne Street Bridge, according to WPVI. The bridge is positioned over railroad tracks. The woman was over 100 feet in the air and could have fallen on the tracks. It quickly became evident that her intention was to fall and take her own life. The boys ran back to their coach, screaming to call 911. While he did that, they called out to the woman to try to keep her from doing what she went there to do.

First Black Hole Photo: 2019 Reactions and Memes

In a news conference on April 10, scientists unveiled the first ever photo of a black hole, or rather the event horizon of a black hole. The image is the result of two years of work with observations made with the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT), and is currently the strongest evidence to date proving the existence of black holes.

Dropped Passenger at Airport, Went Back to Empty House

So Jackie thought he had a prime opportunity to clean the place out.

What Jackie forgot as part of his criminal master plan was that there are these things called security systems. The passenger happened to have one installed, a Ring security system.

The alarm sounded, and the burglary stopped. Jackie jetted from the scene of the crime but the security system recorded everything.

When cops arrived, they noticed a nearby home that also had a Ring security camera system had been “completely ransacked.”

It seemed like the man was going to get away with his crimes, that is until both homeowners uploaded their respective videos to a Ring online community.

First Black Hole Image Released—And People Think it Looks Like a Donut

We knew of the existence of black holes—objects in the universe that absorb everything around them and let nothing escape, even light. But until Wednesday, we didn’t have photographic proof. This morning, astronomers released the first image of a black hole, which is centered in a galaxy known as Messier 87.

The image was captured using the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT), a collection of eight telescopes from around the world, and shows light bending around the black hole. While the science community is thrilled, others are taking the opportunity to make memes out of this historic event.

Upon seeing this image, several people thought: “hey, this looks like a glazed donut.”

Other memes referenced films like 2001: A Space Odyssey.

And the jokes took off from there.

If the thought of this black hole swallowing everything up is terrifying to you, take comfort in the fact that it’s 55 million light-years away from our planet. But there’s still the unsettling fact that this beast is 6.5-billion times the mass of the sun. Yep. Thinking about donuts is making that information a little easier to parse.

Elementary School Turns Cafeteria Leftovers Into Frozen Meals So No Students Go Hungry

Countless children in the United States depend on their school breakfasts and/or lunches to stay fed. Sadly, many kids don’t receive proper nutrition, or even enough food, once they exit those school doors.

The food services department at Elkhart Community Schools in Indiana realized a large amount of cafeteria food was going to waste each week… but the district didn’t know what to do with all the leftovers. At the same time, they knew children were going home on the weekends without much, if anything, to eat.

So, Elkhart Schools began taking part in a brilliant idea. They teamed up with a non-profit organization called Cultivate for a pilot program that provides weekend meals to a small group of eligible students — ensuring they have enough to eat during evenings and weekends.

“We rescue food that’s been made but never served by catering companies … like the school system,” said Jim Conklin of Cultivate. “You don’t always think of a school.”

The program rescues the well-prepared yet unused foods and turns them into individual, take-home frozen meals.

As you’ll see in the video below, it sounds like this is something that could be implemented in schools around the country.
