Why Did Ryan Gallagher Leave ‘The Voice’? He Left Before the Knockout

While much of the controversy on The Voice relates to the judges’ decisions on who to pick and who to ultimately eliminate, there is some behind-the-scenes drama taking place on Season 19.

The season’s live episodes kicked off on Nov. 30, and half of the remaining 20 contestants participated in the 4-Way knockout rounds. The rest of the singers had participated in the 4-way knockouts during the previous week of competition.

One contestant who was looking to advance to the Top 17 was Team Kelly Clarkson member Ryan Gallagher. While announcing which contestant advanced from the previous episode, host Carson Daly revealed that Ryan Gallagher had left the competition.

While some initially cited family issues as Ryan’s reason for leaving, he revealed on his Instagram feed that there was much more to the story.

Why did Ryan Gallagher leave The Voice? Keep reading to find out.

Why did Ryan Gallagher leave ‘The Voice’?

The 31-year-old Michigan native was favored to make it through to the next round (and to potentially win the season), which made it all the more shocking when Carson revealed that Ryan had left the show before the episode aired.

“As a side note, Team Kelly’s Ryan Gallagher had to exit the competition so the 4-Way winner was decided with the votes received from these three remaining artists,” Carson said on the show, before pivoting to announce that Taryn Papa had won the round.

Carson did not give further details about Ryan’s departure from the show, leading many fans to speculate about it on social media.

One popular theory was that Ryan had exited the hit NBC competition because of a family emergency. He had previously revealed on the show that his mother had been hospitalized while battling COVID-19.

But, Ryan himself refuted that on his Instagram stories on Nov. 30. He initially promised his 60,000 followers that he would go on Instagram live, but he later canceled that with a mysterious message.

“Hey everyone. I have to postpone the Instagram live. More information to follow,” he wrote. “Prayers please.”

The cryptic messages about his exit from the show didn’t end there.

Ryan hinted that he didn’t make the decision to leave ‘The Voice.’

In another Instagram story post, Ryan assured fans that his absence from the show was unrelated to family health issues. He indicated that he also did not leave the series on his own terms.

“Thank you everybody for your concern for my family; however, everybody is fine,” he shared in another story. “That’s not the cause of what happened tonight on The Voice. I didn’t drop out of the show. Details are still to come. I’ll keep you posted.”

Ryan further teased that there was drama between him and The Voice with his third and final Instagram story posted on Nov. 30. He shared a photo of himself wearing a bow tie. In the bow tie, Ryan wrote a small caption that fans easily could have missed.

“2020, you are an interesting one,” the cryptic text read.

Interestingly, Ryan had tweeted about performing on the Nov. 30 episode just hours before he was set to take the stage.

“Here we go America!! Never thought a small town guy like me would make it here!” he wrote early on Nov. 30.

It appears, therefore, as if Ryan’s exit from the series was decided the day of the live episode.

It’s unclear yet when Ryan is planning on sharing more information about his departure from the show. Until then, fans will likely continue to speculate about it online.

The Voice airs on Mondays and Tuesdays at 8 p.m. on NBC.

All The Best New Pop Music From This Week

This week in the best new pop music saw some exciting releases. Miley Cyrus debuted her anticipated album Plastic Hearts, Bad Bunny dropped a surprise project, and Rina Sawayama followed-up her sophomore record.

Each week, Uproxx rounds up the best new pop music. Listen up.

Miley Cyrus — “Hate Me”

After months of teasing, Miley Cyrus’ Plastic Hearts is finally here — and it’s great. Cyrus only previewed the album with two songs, but the project is 15 tracks that perfectly blend classic rock and modern pop. Her standout track “Hate Me” is perhaps the most buoyant on the album, combining bouncy bass drops with Cyrus’ soaring vocals.

Bad Bunny — “La Noche De Anoche” Feat. Rosalía

Bad Bunny also released an album this week, and it was his third release of the year. The record, titled El Último Tour Del Mundo, boasts a number of groovy reggaeton tracks. But his Rosalía collaboration “La Noche De Anoche” is one of his most captivating as it features heart-throbbing lyrics over a fluttering beat.

Rina Sawayama — “Lucid”

Following her smash hit sophomore album Sawayama, Rina Sawayama returns with the shimmering number “Lucid.” Over heavily-layered production, Sawayama pens an effortlessly-infectious tune about a budding relationship.

Christine And The Queens — “3Sex” Feat. Indochine

’80s French pop rock band Indochine tapped Christine And The Queens for the driving tune “3Sex.” Speaking about the single in a statement, Christine described how the collaboration came about: “Last April, Nicola Sirkis called me and told me about revisiting ‘3Sex.’ The whole world was breathing more slowly and my heart started pounding because this song tells something that is very personal to me, something that makes me want to be free.”

King Princess — “Pain”

After a wildly successful breakout year in 2019, King Princess returned with her first new single of 2020. Addressing the song, King Princess said: “‘Pain’ is cool because… It’s probably my favorite song I’ve ever written. It makes me so happy when I listened to it. I haven’t gotten sick of it. I like when it’s on in the background or my girlfriend just did my new video, she was… I had to hear it a bajillion times through the editing process.”

J. Lo — “In The Morning”

Following her eye-catching performance at this year’s AMAs, J. Lo is ushering in a new era of music. This week, the singer debuted the sultry single “In The Morning,” featuring a clapping beat and J. Lo’s upbeat lyrical delivery.

JoJo — “December Baby”

JoJo is ringing in the holiday season with the soulful number “December Baby.” The bright song boasts jingling bells and JoJo’s thoughtful musings about wishing to cozy up with the one she loves.

Fred Again — “Julia (Deep Diving)”

Producer Fred Again shared his song “Julia (Deep Diving)” this week, which was surprisingly based off of an Instagram post by songwriter Julia Michaels. Fred Again ripped the post’s audio and remixed it, turning her prose into a shuffling and reflective earworm.

TheHxliday — “Thank U”

Rising singer TheHxliday offered his brooding number “Thank U” as a reflection on his generation’s reliance on substances. “Kids these days feel the urge to take drugs to help cope with their emotions,” TheHxliday said in a statement. “With ‘Thank U’ it’s a message saying ‘You can take drugs. You can take anything you want but it’s only going to make things worse.’ You don’t need that to heal they’re better things to do.”

Clinton Kane — “Remember The Mornings”

Norwegian-Filipino singer/songwriter Clinton Kane shared his lovelorn ballad “Remember The Mornings” this week. In speaking about the song, Clinton Kane says: “‘remember the mornings’ is inspired by a girl who broke my heart; surprise, surprise, what else is new! It talks about how badly I want this person in my life even though she’ll probably break me apart, and how badly I want to call her every single night after my busy day even though I know she’s probably with someone else.”

Roddy Ricch Calls ‘Fake News’ After Being Sued For $200K In Rent

Grammy-winning Compton rapper Roddy Ricch may be among Forbes‘ 30 Under 30, but that hasn’t stopped a landlord with a grudge from accusing him of not living up to his nom de plume. The Blast recently published a report that Roddy was being sued in two separate cases, the first of which was filed by a property investment company claiming he owed $200,000 in back rent.

According to The Blast, Roddy rented a home from AIM Property Investment, Inc. in Encino, CA in April 2020 on a one-year lease for $15,950.00 per month. However, the property managers accused the rapper of stopping payment in July and forfeiting the property in August. AIM also alleges that Roddy did not return the house in its original condition and that as a result, they’ve been unable to re-rent the property. They claim they’ve sustained general, incidental, special, and consequential damages of at least $200,000.

For his part, Roddy appeared to respond to the report — albeit a week later — on Instagram, posting to his Story. A sporadic social media user at best, it would make sense that Roddy wouldn’t even see the report until after Thanksgiving weekend. In any case, his message to fans — “Y’all believe too much fake news. Thas why I stay away from this internet sh*t” — would seem to be a response to the most recent headlines he’s made lately.

He could also be referring to the second lawsuit, which was reported just a day after the first. In this one, he’s accused of causing a collision on an LA freeway, with the other motorist claiming “mental, physical, emotional, and nervous pain, suffering, and distress.” The plaintiff is suing for “all medical, hospital, and incidental expenses, loss of earnings, past, and future, and earning capacity, property damage and incidental expenses, and costs for bringing the lawsuit.”

Roddy, meanwhile, racked up nine Grammy Award nominations to go along with his win for Best Rap/Hip-Hop album at the 2020 AMAs, and landing among the top 10 music videos on YouTube.

Nurse’s “How It’s Going” Meme Is Cold Dose of COVID-19 Reality

It’s no secret that healthcare workers are being run ragged in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Reports of employees being overworked and dealing with heightened psychological duress are unfortunately all too common. With new restrictions and safety protocols constantly being implemented, longer hours, and throngs of patients either being tested or treated for the coronavirus, it’s been an exceptionally rough year for those in the healthcare field.

Article continues below advertisement

And while there’s no shortage of social media posts and reports that reinforce these statistics, it’s 28-year-old Kathryn’s “how it started, how it’s going meme” that’s really driving the point home for a lot of people.

The meme shows her initial staff photo juxtaposed with a selfie she took after working a shift during the COVID-19 pandemic.

She followed up the meme with a tweet thread discussing the love and dedication she has for her job. She discussed the particulars of her career trajectory and day-to-day workflow with BuzzFeed, saying “Some shifts are eerily slow and quiet, while others are 12-plus hours of all-out chaos.”

Kathryn graduated from nursing school in May, right around the height of the pandemic.

In her thread, she writes, “I love being a nurse. Didn’t exactly expect to be a new nurse in the middle of a highly politicized pandemic but life comes at you fast and even in a pandemic, there’s nothing else I want to do. Caring for the sickest of the sick is an honor and I treasure my patients.”

For Kathryn, one of the hardest parts of her job is the brutal redundancy of some COVID-19 cases.

“It is devastating to watch people die when those deaths were avoidable and it’s even more devastating when you watch them die the same way, time after time after time. It’s devastating that basic common sense and decency has been politicized. [COVID] is a brutal disease and I wouldn’t wish the worst of it on my worst enemy. Please understand that you aren’t just protecting yourself, you are protecting the people around you.”

Article continues below advertisement

As for what inspired her to take the selfie, she told the outlet that she wanted to show folks what wearing a mask and face shield for an entire shift while caring for patients all day did to her, “…I was struck by how exhausted I looked. I was drenched in sweat, my hair sticking straight up from the mask and face shield. The grooves left by the PPE on my face were deep and red, and I remember thinking that the reality of being a nurse was nothing like the ideas people seem to have of nurses in their heads, of cleanly pressed scrubs or white uniforms.”

Article continues below advertisement

She doubled down on stating she wanted to share the effect the pandemic’s had on humanity in an attempt to cut down on the politicizing of the virus, “I just wanted people to see what it’s really like to take care of the patients that are at the heart of the pandemic that has somehow become a political flashpoint.”

Article continues below advertisement

It didn’t take long for other healthcare workers to share their own “how it started, how it’s going memes”, with many other people praising the nurse for being so candid about the effects of working such long hours in stringent conditions, no matter how unflattering the uploaded end result was.

Kathryn went on to say that she’s been overwhelmed by the response to her post and that she was “touched to the bottom of [her] heart by all those who have expressed their thanks and gratitude for healthcare workers.”

She added that the significance of other healthcare workers sharing their own personal stories shows just how many individuals the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted.

Article continues below advertisement

She added, “…already we are starting to recognize in each other a certain look you get after long enough in the unit. Something about the eyes. We’ve seen things that we can never forget.”

TikToker Goes Viral For Saying ‘Charli D’Amelio’ 100,000 Times In A Row

You can become famous for just about anything these days, as TikTok star Devin Caherly recently proved when he went viral for saying the name of the platform’s most popular user, Charli D’Amelio, 100,000 times in a row.

No, really, that's it. There's nothing to add. Saying D'Amelio's name over and over and over again was Caherly's whole game, and his endurance test received millions of views.

Advertisement Hide

Caherly vowed to say D'Amelio's name 100,000 times in his original announcement video, which has well over 300,000 likes. D'Amelio has over 101 million followers on Tiktok and is best known for her viral dance videos, and for once being rude to her chef.

@devincaherly

For every 10 comments I’ll be saying Charli D’Amelio in a row on my tiktok livestream at 11am PST on 11/29/20. Make sure y’all like and follow me

Caherly tracked his progress with an online counter, which he pressed every time he said D'Amelio's name. He live-streamed the entire event. To his dismay, the counter suddenly reset itself at 99,991.

I spent 18 hours straight saying @charlidamelio and right before I hit 100,000 this happens 🤦🏻‍♂️

♬ original sound - Devin Caherly

He made a video of the failure with the caption, "I spent 18 hours straight saying @charlidamelio and right before I hit 100,000 this happens."

Caherly's attempt was similar to YouTube star MrBeast (born Jimmy Donaldson), who in the past has said the names of popular YouTubers PewDiePie and Logan Paul 100,000 times. Donaldson is also famous for his outlandish challenges, like Ubering in exotic cars and giving them to the passengers at the end of the ride.

Similarly, Caherly recently gave Amazon gift cards to many of his fans. He is now crowdsourcing ideas for his next social media challenge.
