Deboonker is a variation of an -oomer Wojak meme that parodies and satirizes skeptics, debunkers, and fact-checkers. It oftentimes depicts a Wojak with glasses and updo blond hair, the overall look is supposed to parody the famous debunker Adam Conover. Another notable trait of deboonker memes is the eponymous character’s love for and constant references to fact-checking website snopes.com.

Origins

First known instance of the deboonker meme appeared on 4chan on a /bant/ board on August 12th, 2020 with the caption “Why are skeptics like this” (shown below). In the attached image the deboonker has been described as having “love for “science”, being liberal, hating misinformation, referencing fact-checking platform Snopes, and having a habit of pointing out that something is a conspiracy theory.

Spread

On October 20th, 2020, the next known instance appeared on Reddit in a subreddit named r/averageredditor with the title “A new kind of Redditor has been identified” that gained 650 upvotes and 58 comments (shown below). In it, the deboonker has been presented with a notable satirized look of Adam Conover and has been attributed such traits as asking for sources and having the desire to “deboonk.”

On October 21st, 2020, Twitter user @Ouroborbros posted an image with Deboonker titled as “Actually, the Leslie Stahl interview walk-out has been #DEBUNKED !”. In this image the deboonker was presented as a fat person with an NPC Wojak face, described as not being impartial and having the tendency to ignore “dubious left-wing sources”, to deboonk only right-wing sources, using Reddit 14 hours a day and having watched every Marvel movie.

Then later that day, the next known deboonker meme was published in a Facebook group “The Legend of Chad: Ocarina of Memes” in a Virgin vs Chad meme format where the “happener” (a person, usually a conspiracy theory enjoyer who believes that something big is about to happen) was presented as the virgin and the deboonker was presented as the Chad that can debunk something in a matter of seconds and that has a “super snoper 500” rifle (shown below).

Further spread happened after Ian Miles Chong, an American journalist and a political commentator, posted an image on Twitter that depicted a deboonker meme on October 26th, 2020, gaining over 2,200 thousand likes and 600 retweets. He titled the tweet as “It’s unverifiable because I refuse to verify it, therefore it didn’t happen.” (shown below).

Who is Grant Cardone from ‘Undercover Billionaire’?

Undercover Billionaire is a show that defines the American Dream. The reality series features billionaire entrepreneurs who give up everything in order to launch a million-dollar company in 90 days with nothing but $100. The series attempts to prove that any self-made person can acquire wealth and success many times over with their own grit and experience. 

For Season 2, the show adopts the same concept, but with a twist. This time, there are three billionaires, all tasked with launching a new successful business in 90 days. Each is given $100, a cell phone with no contacts, and is sent to a different city in the U.S. in order to build their new business. 

Oh, and they’ll also have to navigate the global COVID-19 pandemic.

One of the billionaires on Season 2 is Grant Cardone, businessman, author and the owner of Cardone Capital, a real estate investment firm. In addition to running several companies and a $1.5 billion portfolio of properties, Grant is also the author of several books like If You’re Not First, You’re Last, which was a New York Times bestseller, and Sell or Be Sold, which won an Axiom Award.

But Grant was not simply born a billionaire. In fact, he’s had a hard road to success. 

Grant’s father died when he was 10, which led to him growing up without a strong male role model. Grant was directionless, and soon developed a drug addiction, which landed him in rehab at the age of 25.

Luckily, Grant was able to kick his addiction, and when he left the rehab facility, he decided to turn his life around. Grant got a job in sales and threw himself into his work. But he quickly saw the many shortcomings of the sales process and decided to start his own company.

With just $50,000, Grant began a consulting company in the auto industry and helped multi-million dollar companies change their sales processes to become more effective and profitable. He says that today, that company is likely to make $10 million a year and in the years since, Grant has also expanded his consulting into retail and financial companies as well.

Grant also started to do speaking engagements to train executives on new ways to do business. Soon, he was traveling all over the country on speaking engagements that drew over 200 people a session. He realized the profit potential in these conferences and decided to compile his knowledge into books and programs.

To date, Grant has written 21 best-selling business programs along with several books, including The 10X Rule, which eventually grew into The 10X Growth Conference, a three-day event that is now the world’s largest business and entrepreneur conference.

Now, Grant will take on the challenge of building himself up from nothing, almost 30 years after he did so for the first time.

Mitch McConnell’s had quite an shock to the system, it seems. In the morning light after the Georgia Senate runoff elections, people were absolutely giddy to see him demoted to “Senate Minority Leader” when Rev. Raphael Warnock defeated incumbent Kelly Loeffler, and Jon Ossoff looked to have a certain victory over David Perdue. After Georgia actually turned blue for Biden during the presidential election, it’s now obvious that Trumpism has backfired upon the GOP, and some who have stayed loyal to Trump (or at least quiet about their misgivings) during his attempted coup to overturn the Electoral College vote have had enough.

Well, Mitch finally broke today. He did so after Mike Pence issued his own shocking statement that he would not try to block the Electoral College vote. As for Mitch, he looked to be on the verge of tears while condemning his GOP colleagues who continue to challenge state election results. McConnell declared that he would not join Ted Cruz and friends because the very soul of the republic is at stake:

“I’ve served 36 years in the Senate. This will be the most important vote I’ve ever cast. The voters, the courts and the states have all spoken. They’ve all spoken. If we overrule them, it will damage our republic forever… If this election was overturned by allegations from the losing side, our democracy would enter a death spiral.”

McConnell then lambasted the conspiracy theories pushed, retweeted, and encouraged by Trump and somehow embraced by some GOP lawmakers. On one hand, people are agreeing with a lot of what Mitch is saying — and how he’s rising to the historical occasion and sounding statesman-like — but they also believe that he’s taken far too long to say it. After all, MAGA protesters (many of them armed) are currently storming the Capitol building following four years of McConnell going along with all of Trump’s dictator-like moves, and he’s only standing up to Trump after the Georgia runoffs finally had an effect on Mitch “Stimulus Shrinker” McConnell.

As of this writing, the Capitol building remains under siege by Trump’s followers who are following his lead in attacking democracy. There’s more to come on this story for sure.

The Recording Academy and the Grammy Awards haven’t exactly done any favors to their approval rating over the past few months. Artists and fans have a lot of problems with this year’s nominations, The Weeknd is especially peeved, Fiona Apple might smash a Grammy if she wins one, and some artists want their nominations removed. Now, the Academy has managed to make somebody else angry at them.

Yesterday, it was revealed that the Recording Academy postponed the Grammys to March 14. The issue there is that this is the same date this year’s the 27th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards are taking place. SAG-AFTRA, the organization behind the SAG Awards, are peeved by the situation. In a statement (as Variety reports), the organization noted that they are “extremely disappointed” by the scheduling conflict.

The statement reads:

“We are extremely disappointed to hear of the conflicting date, March 14th, announced today for this year’s Grammy Awards telecast. We announced the same date for the SAG Awards last July with the intent to give the greatest possible scheduling consideration for other awards shows. We expect the same consideration from sister organizations throughout the industry.

The SAG Awards recognizes outstanding acting performances over the past year. We will again put on a spectacular show that accomplishes that mission. Our two organizations, SAG-AFTRA and the Recording Academy, share members and work together effectively to advocate for artists in many areas. In an environment that is increasingly challenging for televised awards programs, we also have a mutual interest in successfully showcasing the artistry and talent of our respective memberships. We are in contact with the Recording Academy and will continue to work with our sister organizations to find ways to make this year’s awards season as successful as possible.”
