One night Sultan Mahmud Ghaznavi, even after many efforts, when he could not sleep, he started telling his slaves that some oppressor had been wronged. Go out into the streets, and if anyone complains, bring him to me. After a while, they all came back and said: “Sultan, we did not find any complaint, you should sleep peacefully.” When Sultan still did not sleep, he changed his clothes and left the palace. In the rear of the palace, near the Haram, he heard someone cry: “Oh Allah! Sultan Mahmud with his companions is living a life of luxury in the palace, and in the rear of the palace, this is oppression.” The Sultan said: “What are you talking about? I am Mahmud and I have come to teach you. Tell me what has happened to you?” And he oppresses and tortures my wife.” “Where is he at this time?” “Perhaps father is gone.” “When he comes again, come immediately and inform me.” Then the Sultan showed that person to the porter of the palace and said that whenever this court came, bring him to Seyyed Hameer. Don’t worry if I am in a state of prayer. The next night that person came to the Sultan and told that the person was in his house at that time. At the same time Sultan went with this person with sword in hand. When he reached near his house, he asked him to turn off all the lights in the house. Then he broke into his house in the dark and beheaded the person. Then the Sultan ordered to light the lamp. He saw the person’s face and prostrated himself. Then he said to the owner of the house: “If you bring me food, I am very hungry.” “Whatever it is, bring it”! That person brought a dry bread which the Sultan ate with great relish. That person started asking the Sultan what was the matter behind lighting the lamp, prostrating and asking for bread. The Sultan said: “When I heard your story, I thought that only one of my sons would have the courage to do such injustice in my Sultanate. I asked him to be dark so that paternal compassion would not get in the way of justice.” When burning
