You may or may not know MUNA. If you do, you have taste. If you don’t, well, get on that.
The interviewer Nicole Alvarez greeted them by saying “Hi, ladies.” The band members didn’t initially correct her when she said that.
However, Nicole then said, “I had you ladies pick some cards. I didn’t wanna do a sit down serious anything — just wanna ask fun questions to get to know you a different way.”
Katie then took the mic and said, “Ok, first of all, I wanna say — and this may be a little awkward, but — we don’t all identify as girls.”
“When people refer to us, we just ask that they say ‘y’all’ or ‘you guys.’ I think this is actually amazing to have in an interview.” Naomi (in the hat) agreed that they think it’s a good moment to have.
The interviewer then said, “I want this to stay that way. I think a lot of people are afraid to have that conversation to happen, so that we’re aware from the get-go.”
Katie responded, “It doesn’t reflect on anybody. Everybody makes these mistakes. It’s a completely innocent thing. I think what we need to do more of is, ‘Hey, it’s totally chill. This is the way we prefer it.'”
