Mom Is Furious After Finding Out That 12-Year-Old Daughter Was Drug-Tested At School

Sixth grader Alyssa Burk was enjoying her day at Century Middle School in Colorado when administrators pulled her out of class. The 12-year-old was concerned that she was in trouble, but the administrators assured her everything was fine. They asked if they could talk to her, and Alyssa agreed.

Administrators then told Alyssa that she smelled like marijuana. They said that they wanted to give Alyssa a drug test to see if she had been smoking. She hadn’t.

The drug test came back negative.

A few days later, Alyssa mentioned the drug test to her parents. They were absolutely shocked. While they weren’t upset that Alyssa had been drug tested, they were furious that nobody from the school notified them.

According to the school district’s policy, “attempts will be made to contact parents prior to the administration of sobriety tests.” Alyssa’s mom and grandfather, her two guardians, were never contacted about the test, even after it came back negative.

Amber, Alyssa’s mom, told Fox59 that she has since received an apology from the school’s principal. She’s happy about the result, but wants to make sure that other parents are aware of what happened.
