By the time Nicole Finnegan gave birth to her son Max, her dog had gotten very used to being the baby of the house. Nicole and her husband worried that Hugo, their two-year-old French bulldog/Boston Terrier mix, would be jealous of his new sibling and less-than-thrilled with his arrival.
But their worries were completely squashed when baby Max came home from the hospital. Hugo immediately fell in love and quickly took on the role of Max’s gentle protector.
One day, when Max was five months old, Nicole was filming him as he lay on his back at their home in Glasgow, London. Hugo was watching over him when, all of the sudden, he reached out his paw and grabbed Max’s little hand… and refused to let go!
Max and Hugo held hands for at least five seconds, but the protective pup kept trying to go back for more.
Nicole sat there in awe and even let out a squeal of delight. She posted the adorable clip to Twitter with the caption, “If this doesn’t melt your heart I don’t know what will.”
She figured her friends and family would be the only people to see it. So, you can imagine her surprise when the video went massively viral with millions of views almost overnight.
