Last night, the actor took home the Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture in a Musical or Comedy for Everything Everywhere All at Once — her first Golden Globe, if you can believe that!

“It’s been an amazing journey,” she said during her acceptance speech. “An incredible fight to be here today. But I think it’s been worth it. I remember when I first came to Hollywood. It was a dream come true until I got here. I came here and was told, ‘You’re a minority.’ And I’m like, ‘No, that’s not possible.'”

She recalled people looking down on her earlier in her career. “Someone said to me: ‘You speak English?’ I mean, forget about them not knowing Korea, Japan, Malaysia, Asia, India. And then I said, ‘Yeah, the flight here was about 13 hours long, so I learned.'”

“As time went by — I turned 60 last year — and I think all of you women understand this, as the days, years, numbers get bigger, it seems like the opportunities start to get smaller, as well. … Then, along came the best gift: Everything Everywhere All at Once.”

Then, a pianist began playing to signal it was time to wrap it up. And my girl had the absolute best response: “Shut up, please.”

“I can beat you up, okay?” she joked. “And that’s serious.”

She continued with her speech, thanking everyone involved with Everything Everywhere. “This is also for all the shoulders that I stand on, all who came before me who look like me, and all who are going on this journey with me forward. Thank you for believing in us.”

Naturally, the internet had a lot to say about the whole thing:

Congratulations, Michelle! So glad you’re finally getting the recognition you deserve!
