The red line shows the current border. The blue-striped areas were a part
of Germany before 1949 and have been a part of the Netherlands ever
since. Both areas have a combined population of around 100 people and
are mostly made up of forested hills. There were also other territories
annexed by the Netherlands from Germany in 1949, but these were returned
to Germany in 1963 in exchange for the today’s equivalent of around
€750,000,000.
