‘Lonely Hearts Club’ Delivers Heartwarming Valentine’s Day Cards From Strangers To Lonely People

Being single on Valentine’s Day can be pretty anticlimactic, but one company wants to change that. Gift company Red Letter Days started the Lonely Hearts Club for singles in the UK to receive a sweet Valentine from a stranger on the holiday.

More Americans are single than ever before, and our friends across the pond aren’t faring much differently. Nine million people reportedly admitted that they often feel lonely. That feeling often worsens on Valentine’s Day, when you’re surrounded by constant reminders of your singleness.

For many people, Valentine’s Day is a fun and joyful occasion centering on love, affection and kindness,” Red Letter Days employee Alison Vickery said.

“But for others, Valentine’s Day can exacerbate feelings of isolation and loneliness.”

So Red Letter Days decided to invent a way for everyone to have a Valentine regardless of their relationship status. The company encouraged people to write a sweet Valentine for a stranger and drop it into one of many cute red letterboxes located in London, Manchester, and other cities.

Some schools have also recruited their students for the effort. Students at The Wroxham School were hard at work cutting and gluing cards for strangers.

They wrote heartwarming messages like: “Roses are red, Violets are blue, the world wouldn’t be the same without you!”

As Alison says, writing a card doesn’t take much time at all – and it could make somebody’s day.
