Kuruluş Osman is a period drama and fiction – fictitious subplots, fictional characters, fictional events – are only to be expected but still, imo, it does a pretty decent job (when compared to your average period drama, Turkish or otherwise) of wrapping fiction around actual kernels of history – real heroes, real antagonists & real events that delight me by remaining quite close to their descriptions in early Ottoman sources.
And of course, while shows like Kuruluş Osman arouse curiosity, generate interest in history, which needs to be appreciated, we can only learn ‘history’, get a nuanced (often confusing) view of our past, after years of toil, after hours of study of credible (often dull) materials from diverse (often opposing) sources.
