Ismat ad-Din Khatun was a daughter of Emir Mu’in ad-Din Unur of Damascus, and the wife of Emir Nuruddin Zangi of Aleppo. When her father died in 1149, her husband seized control of the lands. After the death of Nuruddin Zangi, Ismat Khatun ruled as Emira (princess) in her own right of Aleppo and Damascus. William of Tyre, a Franco-Syrian politician and historian claimed that Ismat ad-Din Khatun had “Courage beyond that of most Women”. You can watch my Detailed video on the History of Ismat Khatun.
