In this day, year 10 oct 1470, Yavuz Sultan Selim I also known Selim the Grim was born in Amasya, Ottoman Empire. He conquered the whole Mamluk Sultanate of Egypt, including Sham, Hejaz , Tihamah and Egypt. Upon conquering Egypt, Selim became the first Ottoman Caliph in 1517.

Selim I was also known as Yavuz the Stern for his forceful, ruthless, and powerful ways against Muslim and non-Muslim Ottoman opponents. Through his annexation strategy, Selim expanded his realm to include the Hejaz, Egypt, and Syria. He was in responsible of extending Ottoman authority within the Islamic world. The Battle of Chaldiran, in which he defeated Shah Ismail, and the Ottoman-Mamluk War, in which he routed the Mamluk army, were two of the most important occasions of his reign.

After extending his authority to Mecca and Medina, he was also known as “The Servant of The Two Holy Cities.” He was one of the most admired sultans in the Ottoman Empire. He was powerful and tall. He put a lot of effort into planning his campaigns, and he is recognised for his tough policies and unyielding character. 🖊️🤍
