In 1994, Erdoğan asked Sayyid Nāzim al-Ḥaqqānī to pray for the elections in Istanbul because he was running for Mayor. Sayyid Nāzim laughed and said, “Don’t worry, the elections in Istanbul are already yours. I’m going to make [Du’ā for] you [to become] the president of Türkiye.”
Recep Tayyip Erdoğan became the mayor of Istanbul that same year and became the president in 2003.
