Basically:

The population/area stats of Eastern China is not far away from India as a whole.

Therefore,
if China lost half of its sparsely populated Western parts to India,
the two country’s population/area stats would become very similar.

In
this case, the Kashmir-Siliguri line would become India’s version of
Heihe-Tengchong line, where 95% pop live in one side and 5% in the
other.
