As the Marvel Cinematic Universe gets bigger, so too do its villains.

While we’ve already met a villain who erased half of the universe’s population and a fallen hero who nearly destroyed the multiverse, they both pale in comparison to the might of Kang the Conqueror. The supervillain, who first made his presence known in the Season 1 finale of Loki as “He Who Remains,” makes his film debut in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.

Kang the Conqueror may end up being the most powerful villain in the MCU to date; hell, the supervillain even has a film named after him in 2025’s Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, making him a de facto figure in the future of the film franchise.

But, we are dying to know — how strong is Kang the Conqueror? If his comic book origins are any indication, Kang’s strength is the real deal and the Avengers should be very, very scared.

How strong is Kang the Conqueror?

In the original comics, Kang the Conqueror hails from a future age in an alternate version of Earth.

He was originally born as Nathaniel Richards and is directly related to Reed Richards, aka Mr. Fantastic. Much like his ancestors, Kang is gifted with intellectual brilliance. Both fueled and twisted by his scientific ambition, he uses his futuristic technology and access to time travel and dimensional travel to spread his influence throughout the multiverse.

As his name suggests, he invades other realities in order to conquer them. Kang even time travels in order to intervene in past events and interact with his older or future selves. His goals to rule the entire universe often put him at odds with heroes like the Fantastic Four and the Avengers.

As for how strong he is, Kang is all about quantity and quality.

One Kang is already powerful and intelligent enough to conquer other realms, often popping in and out of the timestream on a new conquest. But an endless outpouring of Kangs loose in the multiverse spells certain doom for every conceivable reality. The damage he could deal to the universe is immeasurable, and the heroes of the MCU are about to get a taste.

Wait, can Kang the Conqueror beat Thanos?

In the comics, Kang and Thanos defeated each other multiple times; but, when it comes to the MCU, can Kang the Conqueror beat Thanos? In our humble opinion, we don’t think he could take on the Mad Titan in direct combat because he’s still human. As we all witnessed in the Season 1 finale of Loki, a knife is enough to kill him, so who knows what kind of damage Thanos could do.

On the other hand, we can’t forget that Kang the Conqueror is a master tactician who’s willing to play the long game to acquire multiversal domination. There are also infinite variants of himself sprinkled across the multiverse, and if several team up against Thanos, they would absolutely obliterate him — how? Well, by coordinating their attacks across time and space, and sharing technology from their respective universes, of course!

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania hits theaters on Feb. 17, 2023.
