“I used to work the front desk in a hotel. It was one of the main chains, so it was trusted to be clean. This specific property was pet-friendly. There was no additional charge for pets, so it wasn’t required to be reported on the stay. If we knew there was an animal, we would keep those to the first floor in a certain area to keep the other rooms in better condition. I had a guest mention that it smelled of pee and they thought they heard meowing. The housekeepers and supervisor didn’t smell anything upon cleaning the room.”

“I apologized and explained that we were a pet-friendly hotel, so it was possible that his neighbors had a cat in their room. The guest decided to stay in the room anyway and never made mention of it again. After two nights, the guest checked out as the reservation ended. When the housekeeper went into the room, she found a cat living inside the pull-out sofa bed. It had been in there the entire stay of the guest.”
