Greater Hungary refers to the historical territories that were once part of the Kingdom of Hungary but were lost after World War I due to the Treaty of Trianon. Hungarian irredentism is the political movement that seeks to regain these lost territories and reunite them with modern-day Hungary.

The Treaty of Trianon, which was signed in 1920, drastically reduced the size of Hungary and resulted in the loss of two-thirds of its territory. As a result, many Hungarians were left outside of the borders of the new country and became minorities in other countries such as Romania, Slovakia, and Serbia.

Hungarian irredentism emerged as a response to this perceived injustice and has been a source of political tension in the region for many years. While some in Hungary still seek to regain these lost territories, others acknowledge the impracticality of such a goal and focus on building better relationships with neighboring countries.
