Renee Hellman of Manitou Springs, Colorado has health issues that make her particularly vulnerable to contracting the virus. The 71-year-old relies has pulmonary disease, an illness that affects the respiratory system.
She relies on oxygen to breathe, and decided to self-quarantine during the early stages of the outbreak to be safe.
However, Renee lives all alone and it’s been difficult for her to manage the logistics behind getting the food and supplies she needs.
Sunny the golden retriever lives with his owner,
Karen and her golden retriever, Sunny, have lived next door to Renee for the past 10 years. Sunny has always been a dog that’s eager to help his human counterparts; he routinely retrieves Karen’s mail and even picks up neighborhood trash.
One day, Karen saw a news story about a dog comforting people at a hospital in Denver. She was immediately inspired to do something similar for her dear neighbor, Renee.
Together, Karen and Sunny came up with a brilliant and adorable way to help Renee get her groceries on a regular basis — all while still abiding by the social distancing guidelines.
