During the time of the Islamic Khilafah, Muslims would be searching for poor people for several days to give their yearly Zakat (Islamic tax) and when they could not find someone, they would put the money in a bag and hang it around a tree with a note:

“My Muslim brother, I have searched for you, but I could not find you. If you are in need, do not hesitate to take this.”

The bag would then remain on the tree for three (or more) months. This is what the Islamic system really is about.

If every Muslim would pay their Zakat, poverty would have been tackled long time ago.
