The Broadway musical tells the story of the American Founding Father, Alexander Hamilton. In two acts, the story takes viewers from Alexander Hamilton arriving to New York in 1776 all the way through the early history of the United States.
The story is told through words and music of Lin-Manuel Miranda in only a way Broadway could do. The 2020 movie was filmed at Richard Rodgers Theatre on Broadway in June 2016, and it gives the audience the feel of being right in the seats of the show on Broadway — in the comfort of our own homes. Not only did it bring the story of Alexander Hamilton to more eyes and ears, it made a lot of money.
The Wall Street Journal reports, “Hamilton was produced for $12.5 million on Broadway and has grossed more than a half billion as of June 2019. According to Deadline, Walt Disney Studios paid $75 million to get the rights to the Broadway recording and “won the deal with a commitment for a wide global theatrical release for the 2 hour, 40 minute movie, which was shot two weeks before the original cast left.”
That’s a whole lot of money floating around and centered around the story of a real person. So, that has us wondering if anyone related is getting a piece of that cash?
