Daughter Campaigns To Get A Birthday Card For Lonely Veteran Dad But The Mail Keeps On Coming

Duane Sherman is a World War II veteran who received the Purple Heart for a mission he survived in 1944. The Navy vet was chief sonarman aboard his ship when a kamikaze plane struck down, killing 30 of his shipmates.

In December 2018, Duane’s 96th birthday approached. However, he decided he didn’t want to make a big deal out of it… especially since most of his old war buddies have since passed away. Birthdays just aren’t as joyful as they used to be.

And with so many of his dear friends gone, Duane barely receives any mail other than his boring old bills. So, his doting daughter Sue came up with an idea.

Four weeks before his birthday, Sue took to Facebook to see if anyone would be willing to drop a note in the mail for her dad, who lives in Highland, California. She thought a few simple cards wishing him a happy birthday or thanking him for his service would put a smile on his face.

Then Duane’s birthday came — and Sue realized her request had turned into something so much bigger.

As you’re about to see, Duane was shocked by thousands of strangers from all over the world — from all 50 states, plus 10 other countries.

This is what kindness is all about.
