Crimean War, 1853-1856.
To prevent Russia from reaching the Mediterranean, the British and the French intervened in 1854 on the coasts of the Ottomans in Crimea. The siege of Sevastopol lasts a year, claiming 95,000 victims on the French side. The Russian capitulation put a stop to its expansionism.
