Bus Driver Stops His Vehicle In The Middle Of The Street When He Spots A Turtle In Need

A bus driver in Milwaukee is officially a hero — at least in one turtle’s eyes.

Yaghnam Yaghnam is a bus driver who works for the Milwaukee County Transit System. He was on duty in May when he spotted a turtle in the middle of the road.

Turtles aren’t exactly efficient at crossing the road, and Yaghnam didn’t want him to get run over.

So, he pulled the bus over, hopped out, and picked the turtle up. He carried the turtle the rest of the way across the road safely.

Yaghnam’s rescue came just in the nick of time. After the turtle landed safely on the other side, another bus came speeding down the exact spot that he’d just left.

If you ever see a turtle on the road, you might want to follow Yaghnam’s lead and help them out. Being on the road is especially dangerous for turtles; not only are they quite slow-moving, but some drivers even hit them on purpose for fun — the horror!

PETA recommends helping turtles across the road by “firmly grasping them by both sides of the body, in front of their hind legs.”

Large snapping turtles do bite, however, so gently push them rather than picking them up. Also, always help the turtle in the same direction that they were going — otherwise they’ll just end up crossing the road again.
