August 19, 1944 start of the battle for the liberation of Paris. The population took up arms and erected barricades. On August 24, the 9th company which constituted the vanguard of the 2nd Armored Division entered Paris. The “Nueve” is made up almost exclusively of former Republicans-Spanish.
