32-Year-Old Woman Accused Of Posing As Homeless Teen And Enrolling In High School

This is a pretty bizarre way to start the week! A 32-year-old woman was recently arrested and accused of posing as a homeless teenager and enrolling in high school classes.

Michelle Ann Goodrich was taken into custody by police last month after she attempted to take classes at Cairo-Durham High School in upstate New York for a day; she even rode the bus with other students and attended a full day of classes. Umm, what? Most of us spend years counting down the days until we get out of high school!

Michelle, who is originally from California but has an address in Cairo, New York, told high school administrators that she was a 15-year-old student named Riley Madison.  She also told them that she was homeless.

Investigators still don’t know what Michelle’s motives were — especially since she already has a high school diploma. The residents of Cairo are angry and upset, and rightfully so. Town board member Joel Watts told reporters, “I’m pretty mad. We pay for this security here in our school, school taxes go up every year, they do all this safety stuff. I just think it’s absolutely crazy. I don’t know what more to say, besides, I’m amazed. I gotta show my ID when I go in the school and everybody knows me.”

Greene County Sheriff’s Office senior investigator Joel Rowell (Joel seems to be a popular name around Cairo, apparently) added, “They were very forthcoming and very quick with the information to tell us what’s going on and to assist in our investigation every way possible that they can. We’re reaching out to the parents, let us know if your child had any interaction with her and any other school districts around, we’re trying to determine whether or not she tried to register with another school or not.”

What a weird story! Let’s hope the town of Cairo gets some answers soon!
