I, for one, can’t wait to try these at home.

Every now and then you hear about a clever cooking hack that makes you think: whoa, I wish I’d thought of that. So I combed through the subreddit r/foodhacks and looked all around the Internet for some of the most creative and intriguing food tricks around — then put them all in one place. Here are some of the best.

1.

“Easily make fancy green onions (or pretty much any herbs) by slicing them with pinking shears.”

2.

“Turn canned fruit into one-ingredient sorbet. Buy a can of fruit in light syrup like peaches or pineapple. Freeze it overnight, then in the morning remove the lid and pour any liquid and the frozen fruit into a blender. Purée and enjoy immediately.”

3.

“Turn boxed cake mix into bakery-quality cake by swapping a few simple ingredients. Use real butter instead of oil, milk instead of water, and add one extra egg.”

4.

“Infuse garlic in leftover bacon grease, then use the cloves in your cooking. It’s especially delicious with hasselback potatoes.”

5.

“Use disposable chopsticks to keep a bag of chips closed if you’re out of storage clips. It’s the perfect fit.”

6.

“Get roasted chicken extra crispy with the help of baking powder. Rub skin-on breasts, thighs, wings, or even a whole chicken with a mixture of baking soda salt, black pepper, and cayenne — and let it sit in the fridge over night before roasting.”

7.

“Make perfectly poached eggs in plastic wrap. Crack each individual egg into a plastic bag, tie the bags, and cook the eggs in boiling water directly in the plastic baggies.

8.

“Use a cookie scoop to portion and freeze tomato paste. You’ll have perfect portions when you need it.”

9.

“Eat a hard taco over a soft shell taco. In the end you get two tacos.”

10.

“Put a koozie on a pint of ice cream to keep your hands warm and the ice cream cold.”

11.

“If you’re filling cupcakes, muffins, donuts, or other pastries, use a needle-less medicine syringe. It’s more precise, neater and easier than using piping bags.”

12.

“Place an ice cube on any leftover food you’re microwaving to add moisture while reheating. The ice won’t melt but it will steam your food. It’s especially useful for rice.”

13.

“Cook grilled cheese in a waffle iron. The holes make it perfect for dipping into tomato soup. It sops it all up.”

14.

“If you run out of breadcrumbs and are in a pinch, just toast and grate a slice of bread.”

15.

“Use an apple corer to prep roasted potatoes. Not only do they come out pretty, but they also get extra crispy.”

16.

“Make toaster quesadillas by folding cheese into tortillas and placing them in the toaster oven.”

17.

For a better-for-you but still super creamy and delicious take on the viral TikTok feta pasta, substitute some or all of the feta cheese for Laughing Cow cheese wedges.

18.

“Instead of frying eggs in olive oil, give them a serious flavor boost by frying them in tablespoon of pesto.”

19.

“Use a pizza cutter to cut cilantro, parsley, chives, or really any herbs. It takes about 5 seconds and works wonders.”

20.

“Slice a bunch of cherry tomatoes quickly and all at once by placing the tomatoes between two plastic container lids. Hold the top lid to keep them in place and slice away with a serrated knife.”

21.

“If you’re making boxed mac ‘n’ cheese but don’t have milk, substitute it with the same amount of pasta water that you cooked the noodles in. The starchy water makes the mac ‘n’ cheese taste exactly the same.”

22.

“Twist your bacon and bake it in the oven. Not only does it cook so evenly, but it also makes for the perfect, crispy snack.”

23.

“If you’re struggling to store fragile cake without a proper cake box, just flip over a Tupperware container and use the lid as the base.”

24.

“Let your toast cool in a teepee position so that neither side gets soggy.”
