“My beautiful daughter,
Today is July 14, the second day of Ramadan. Shaykh al-Islam issued a fatwa saying that you may not fast. But I did not feel comfortable. I intend to fast. At sahur, I found two root รงiriลŸ (a grass smaller than a leek) among the bushes. I had sahur with them. We dug new trenches during the day. I was never silent.

The offensive has increased. We couldn’t get our heads out. In the evening, a soldier recited the call to prayer. Inside the trench, the canteen circulated from hand to hand. Everyone broke their fast with water. I thought I was the only one fasting. It turns out that all of the troop were fasting. The flask came to me last. It came, but I was ashamed of myself. My friends all fasted without sahur. I, on the other hand, felt embarrassed towards my friends because I ate two citruses.

That day, I shed tears asking how can I repay the people of Erzurum, Darende and Yenice who were martyrs while fastingโ€ฆโ€
