𝐎𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐝𝐚𝐲, 𝐑𝐚𝐬𝐮̄𝐥𝐮𝐥𝐥𝐚̄𝐡 ‎ﷺ 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐧!

There is a small difference of opinion but the 𝐦𝐚𝐣𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐰 held is that it was the 12th Rabī’ al-Awwal:

1. Imām Ibn Isḥāq (85-151 H): The Prophet ﷺ was born on 12th Rabī’ al-Awwal in ‘Ām ul-Fīl.

[Imām Ibn Jawzī al-Ḥanbalī in al-Wafā, Page 87]

2. Imām Ibn Hishām (213 H): The Prophet ﷺ was born on Monday 12th Rabī’ al-Awwal in ‘Ām ul-Fīl.

[Imām Ibn Hishām in Al-Sīrah Al-Nabawiyyah, Vol. 1, Page 158]

3. Imām Ibn Jarīr al-Tabarī (224-310 H): The Prophet ﷺ was born on Monday 12th Rabī’ al-Awwal in ‘Ām ul-Fīl.

[Tārīkh al-Umam wa’l Mulūk, Vol. 2, Page 125]

4. ‘Allāma Abū al-Ḥasan ‘Alī Bin Muḥammad al-Māwardī (370-480 H): The Prophet ﷺ was born 50 days after the event of Ashāb ul-Fīl and after the death of His father on Monday 12th Rabī’ al-Awwal.

[Ailam un-Nabuwwa, Page 192]

5. Imām al-Ḥāfidh Abū al-Fatāḥ al-Undalāsī (671-734 H): Our leader and the Prophet ﷺ was born on Monday 12th Rabī’ ul-Awwal in ‘Ām ul-Fīl.

[Āyun al-Asr, Vol.1, Page 33]

6. ‘Allāma Ibn Khaldūn (732-808 H): The Prophet ﷺ was born on 12th Rabī’ ul-Awwal in ‘Ām al-Fīl. It was the 40th year of Emperor Kasra Noshairwān.

[Imām Ibn Khaldūn in at-Tārīkh Vol. 2, Page 394]

7. Muḥammad As-Sādiq Ibrāhīm al-Arjūn: From various turaq (chains) it has been established as true that the Prophet ﷺ was born on Monday 12th Rabī’ al-Awwal in ‘Ām ul-Fīl in the reign of Kasra Noshairwān.

[Muḥammad Rasūlullāh, Vol. 1, Page 102]

8. Shaykh ‘Abd al-Ḥaq Muḥaddith al-Dehlvī (950-1052 H): Know it well, that overwhelming majority of the experts of sayar and tarikh (i.e. biographers and historians) hold the opinion that An-Ḥadrat (i.e. the Prophet ﷺ) was born in ‘Ām ul-Fīl… It is well known that the month was of Rabī’ al-Awwal and its date was 12th. Various scholars have shown their agreement with this (date).

[Madārij un-Nabuwwa, Vol. 2, Page 14]

► You can see that the historians/scholars from the first/second century of Hijrī, as well as the scholars of later times, had been authenticating it.

9. Nawāb Muḥammad Sādiq Ḥasan Khān Bohapalvī: The birth (of the Prophet ﷺ) happened in Mecca at the time of Fajr on Monday 12th Rabī’ al-Awwal in ‘Ām ul-Fīl. Majority of scholars holds this opinion. Ibn Jawzī has narrated a consensus (Ijmā’) of scholars on it.

[Ash-Shumāmat al-Anbariya fī Mawlid Khayr al-Bariya, Page 7]

10. Imām Ibn Rajab al-Ḥanbalī: The vast majority hold that he (the Prophet ﷺ) was born on the Second Day of the Week (al-Ithnayn = “Monday”) 12th Rabī’ al-Awwal… in the Year of the Elephant.

[Latā’if al-Ma’ārif, Page 185]

► On the exact time of day that he was born: Sīdī al-Ghawth ‘Abd al-‘Azīz al-Dabbāgh said in al-Ibrīz that he was born in the last third of the night, and Allāh Almighty knows best.

11. Ḥāfidh Ibn Kathīr also mentions that the 12th Rabī’ al-Awwal is relied upon by the majority (of ‘Ulamā and Ummah).

This Date is officially recognised by Islamic countries globally and Mawlid un-Nabawī is celebrated throughout the Islamic world. It is also important to note it is not only limited to the 12th but rather this date is emphasized due to the majority view, despite this Mawlid of the beloved Prophet ﷺ is seen celebrated all month long and throughout the year which is simply the recitation of the Qur’ān, Sīrah, Ḥadīth, praise of the beloved Prophet ﷺ, thanking Allāh ﷻ and feeding the Ummah of the beloved Prophet ﷺ. 𝐍𝐨𝐧𝐞 of our scholars and neither our general Muslims condition the celebration of the Mawlid with a specific time, day, or place. This is just another accusation of imbeciles from Ahlul Bid’ah. The truth is, we believe that the celebration of the 𝐌𝐚𝐰𝐥𝐢𝐝 𝐢𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐚 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞, 𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐞 but is unconditional. One can celebrate the Mawlid, anytime of the day, any day of the year and in every clean and respectable place. So it can 𝐧𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 be a bid’ah and this is the truth; and this truth is just like the full moon that won’t get affected by the barking of dogs. #Mawlid
