The Prophet ๏ทบ said: โO Allaฬh! Bless our Shaฬm and our Yemen.โ People said: โOur Najd as well.” The Prophet ๏ทบ again said: “O Allaฬh! The followers of Muhฬฃammad ibn โAbd al-Wahhaฬb (MIAW) claim that the Najd referred to by Rasuฬlullaฬh ๏ทบ in these ahฬฃaฬdiฬth is in โIraฬq (note how the Sahฬฃaฬba said โour Najdโ, they wouldnโt say this and refer to the Persianโs Najd i.e. ‘Irฤq which at that time was non-Muslim area). But how true is this? Letโs examine this claim.
The Prophet ๏ทบ stood up beside the pulpit (and pointed with his finger towards the East) and said: “Afflictions are there! Afflictions are there, from where the side of the head of Satan (Qarn al-Shaytaฬn) comes out,” or said, “..the side of the sun..” [Sahฬฃiฬhฬฃ al-Bukhaฬriฬ, Book 92, Hฬฃadiฬth 43]
When the Prophet ๏ทบ foretold the afflictions in Najd, ๐ก๐ ๐ฉ๐จ๐ข๐ง๐ญ๐๐ ๐จ๐ฎ๐ญ ๐ญ๐จ๐ฐ๐๐ซ๐๐ฌ ๐๐๐ฌ๐ญ (๐๐ก๐๐๐ค ๐ญ๐ก๐ ๐ฉ๐ข๐๐ญ๐ฎ๐ซ๐, ๐ข๐ญ ๐๐ฅ๐๐๐ซ๐ฅ๐ฒ ๐ฌ๐ก๐จ๐ฐ๐ฌ ๐๐๐ฃ๐ ๐ข๐ฌ ๐๐๐ฌ๐ญ ๐ญ๐จ ๐๐๐iฬ๐ง๐๐ก). To further buttress this, other narrations have the wordings “or where the side where the sun rises from”. We all know the sun rises from the East. So what is to the East of Madiฬnah? Najd!
Madiฬna is located along latitude 24ยฐ28` and Riyaฬdh is located along latitude 24ยฐ46` while โIraฬq is on latitude 33ยฐ13`.
The Prophet ๏ทบ pointed with his hand towards Yemen and said twice: “Faith is there,” and then pointed towards the East, and said: “๐๐๐ซ๐ข๐ฅ๐ฒ, ๐ฌ๐ญ๐๐ซ๐ง๐ง๐๐ฌ๐ฌ ๐๐ง๐ ๐ฆ๐๐ซ๐๐ข๐ฅ๐๐ฌ๐ฌ๐ง๐๐ฌ๐ฌ ๐๐ซ๐ ๐ญ๐ก๐ ๐ช๐ฎ๐๐ฅ๐ข๐ญ๐ข๐๐ฌ ๐จ๐ ๐ญ๐ก๐จ๐ฌ๐ ๐ฐ๐ก๐จ ๐๐ซ๐ ๐๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ฒ ๐ฐ๐ข๐ญ๐ก ๐ญ๐ก๐๐ข๐ซ ๐๐๐ฆ๐๐ฅ๐ฌ ๐๐ง๐ ๐ฉ๐๐ฒ ๐ง๐จ ๐๐ญ๐ญ๐๐ง๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง ๐ญ๐จ ๐ญ๐ก๐๐ข๐ซ ๐ซ๐๐ฅ๐ข๐ ๐ข๐จ๐ง, ๐ฐ๐ก๐๐ซ๐ ๐ญ๐ก๐ ๐ญ๐ฐ๐จ ๐ฌ๐ข๐๐๐ฌ ๐จ๐ ๐ญ๐ก๐ ๐ก๐๐๐ ๐จ๐ ๐๐๐ญ๐๐ง (๐๐๐ซ๐ง ๐๐ฅ-๐๐ก๐๐ฒ๐ญ๐ฬ๐ง) ๐ฐ๐ข๐ฅ๐ฅ ๐๐ฉ๐ฉ๐๐๐ซ,” ๐ง๐๐ฆ๐๐ฅ๐ฒ, ๐ญ๐ก๐ ๐ญ๐ซ๐ข๐๐๐ฌ ๐จ๐ ๐๐๐iฬโ๐ ๐๐ง๐ ๐๐ฎ๐๐๐ซ. [Sahฬฃiฬhฬฃ al-Bukhaฬriฬ, Book 68, Hฬฃadiฬth 52]
In this hฬฃadiฬth the Prophet ๏ทบ mentioned the occupation & tribes of the people in this land of tribulations. The Prophet ๏ทบ described Najdiฬs as “stern & merciless camel herders”.
โIraฬq is widely flat with some high-lands. They possess vast agricultural land, which made them predominantly Najd, by contrast, is mostly plateau, culminating in peaks such as Jabal Tayyiโ in the Jabal Shammar range and they were ๐๐๐ฆ๐๐ฅ๐ฌ ๐ก๐๐ซ๐๐๐ซ๐ฌ. So once again, the description matches Najd in Saudi.
The Prophet ๏ทบ also mentioned that the people of this land of tribulations were from the tribes of Rabiฬ’a and Mudar.
Furthermore, MIAW belonged to the tribe of Banuฬ Tamiฬm. This tribe links to Tamiฬm, the son of Murr, son of ‘Id, son of โAmr, son of Ilyaฬs, ๐ฌ๐จ๐ง ๐จ๐ ๐๐ฎ๐๐๐ซ, son of Nizaฬr, son of Ma’ad, son of โAdnaฬn.

Sayyidah โฤโisha as-Siddiฬqah narrated: “The Messenger of Allaฬh ๏ทบ designated Dhul-Hฬฃulayfah as the Miฬqaฬt for the people of Al-Madiฬnah, Al-Juhฬฃfah for the people Ash-Shaฬm and Egypt, ๐๐ก๐๐ญ ‘๐๐ซ๐ช ๐๐จ๐ซ ๐ญ๐ก๐ ๐ฉ๐๐จ๐ฉ๐ฅ๐ ๐๐ฅ-‘๐๐ซ๐ฬ๐ช, ๐๐๐ซ๐ง ๐๐จ๐ซ ๐ญ๐ก๐ ๐ฉ๐๐จ๐ฉ๐ฅ๐ ๐จ๐ ๐๐๐ฃ๐ and Yalamlam for the people of Yemen.” [Sunan an-Nasaฬ’iฬ, Book 24, Hฬฃadiฬth 38]

If Najd is in โIrฤq, then why do they have different Mawaฬqiฬt? Rasuฬlullaฬh ๏ทบ made a very clear distinction between โIrฤq and Najd in this particular authentic hฬฃadiฬth which leaves no room for doubt whatsoever!
Also, in Mu’jam al-Buldaฬn (famous ancient work on geography) by Imaฬm Shahaฬbuddiฬn ๐ญ๐ก๐ ๐๐จ๐ฎ๐ง๐๐๐ซ๐ข๐๐ฌ ๐จ๐ ๐๐๐ฃ๐ ๐ฐ๐๐ฌ ๐๐๐๐ข๐ง๐๐ ๐ญ๐จ ๐๐๐ ๐๐ญ โ๐๐ซ๐ฬ๐ช. (check the scan in the comment section)
Did major Wahhaฬbiฬ sources consider Najd to be โIrฤq? The answer is Yes! To quote some of them:
โบ Ibn Taymiyyah writes in Talbiฬs Jahmiyyah ๐ญ๐ก๐๐ญ ๐ญ๐ซ๐ข๐๐ฎ๐ฅ๐๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง๐ฌ ๐๐ซ๐ ๐๐ซ๐จ๐ฆ ๐ญ๐ก๐ ๐๐๐ฌ๐ญ ๐จ๐ ๐๐๐iฬ๐ง๐ ๐๐ง๐ ๐ก๐ ๐ ๐๐ฏ๐ ๐๐ฑ๐๐ฆ๐ฉ๐ฅ๐ ๐ฌ๐๐ฒ๐ข๐ง๐ “๐ฅ๐ข๐ค๐ ๐๐๐ฃ๐โ, then went on to cite a few examples of these tribulations. He also writes that the Prophet ๏ทบ mentioned that there were two horns of Shaytaฬn from Najd and he (Ibn Taymiyyah) mentions Musaylimah al-Kadhaฬb was one of them. Musaylimah is of Banuฬ Hฬฃaniฬfa, which is within the Rabiฬ’a tribe, the second of the two tribes mentioned by Rasuฬlullaฬh ๏ทบ (check the scans in the comment section).
โบ Bin Baฬz said the entire east is what was referred to as Najd, whether or not to accept his view, ๐๐๐ฃ๐ ๐ข๐ฌ ๐ฉ๐๐ซ๐ญ ๐จ๐ ๐ญ๐ก๐๐ญ ๐๐๐ฌ๐ญ, ๐๐ฏ๐๐ง ๐ฆ๐จ๐ซ๐ ๐ฌ๐จ ๐ญ๐ก๐๐ง ‘๐๐ซ๐ฬ๐ช ๐๐จ๐ฎ๐ฅ๐ ๐๐ฏ๐๐ซ ๐๐. He also cited examples that were limited to Najd in Hฬฃijaฬz to buttress his point (check the image from his website in the comment section).
โบ Abiฬ โAbd al-Rahฬฃmaฬn was asked about Najd in his book โMaqt as-Shaykh Habiฬlโ, in his response ๐ก๐ ๐๐๐ฆ๐ข๐ญ๐ญ๐๐ ๐ญ๐ก๐๐ญ ๐ก๐ข๐ฌ ๐๐๐ฅ๐ฅ๐จ๐ฐ ๐๐๐ฃ๐iฬ๐ฌ ๐ฐ๐๐ซ๐ ๐ญ๐ซ๐ฒ๐ข๐ง๐ ๐ซ๐๐๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฒ ๐ก๐๐ซ๐ ๐ญ๐จ ๐ญ๐ก๐ซ๐จ๐ฐ ๐ญ๐ก๐ข๐ฌ ๐จ๐ฎ๐ญ ๐จ๐ง ๐ญ๐ก๐ โ๐๐ซ๐ฬ๐ชiฬ๐ฌ, ๐ซ๐๐ข๐ญ๐๐ซ๐๐ญ๐ข๐ง๐ ๐ญ๐ก๐๐ญ ๐ข๐ญ ๐๐จ๐ฎ๐ฅ๐ ๐๐ ๐๐ง๐ฒ ๐จ๐ซ ๐๐จ๐ญ๐ก. So Musaylimah from the tribe of Rabiฬ’a is one of the two horns of Shaytaฬn who was from Najd, the second horn being MIAW of the tribe of Mudar. Hence Rasuฬlullaฬh ๏ทบ said: “Imaฬn is Yemenite, sternness & mercilessness are from the Faddaฬdiฬn of Rabiฬ’a & Mudar.โ
The ahฬฃaฬdiฬth are clear. Deliberately twisting the words of the Prophet ๏ทบ to suit your needs & insisting on your unrealistic interpretation is a major sin which may not be worth the effort.
The Prophet ๏ทบ said tribulations are from Najd (the east) & MIAW is from Najd. And he has unanimously by Ahl al-Sunnah not only been declared as a heretical layman and a khaฬrijiฬ, but also the Qarn al-Shaytaฬn emerging from Najd as foretold by Rasuฬlullaฬh ๏ทบ as well as confirmed by his own elder Sunniฬ brother, Shaykh al-Islaฬm Sulaymaฬn ibn โAbd al-Wahhaฬb, who said:
โThe Horn of Satan which the Prophet ๏ทบ referred to is you.โ
