A woman named Srindi posted a video on TikTok and talked to viewers about the benefits of what she calls “corporate flirting.”
Srindi said, “Disclaimer: Corporate flirting is very different from plain flirting. Please do not flirt with your boss or your peers or anyone at work” and she went on and talked about how corporate flirting works across all levels of business.
She said that the best way to engage with people who are on your level at your job is to start by asking a basic question like where they went to school.
The example she gave went like this: the other worker replies “Northwestern” and Srindi makes a joke about how freezing cold it is half of the year in Chicago but that the person must be smart because Northwestern is such a good school.
She claimed that this approach gives the person a compliment but also opens up the door to offer more information about themself.
She said, “By you kind of making subtle fun of the situation, it shows that your guard is down and you’re willing to have a friendly conversation.”
Srindi said that when it comes to people at the mentor level, she prefers to ask them for advice and for them to share their experiences with her.
She said that it’s important to write a mentor an email or tell them in person how much she appreciated their advice and how it affected their work.
Srindi said, “If you continue doing this, you’ll build camaraderie with the person.”
And when it comes to the bigwigs like a CEO, she said you need to bring the energy when you talk to them.
Srindi said, “Your excitement makes the person feel wanted and safe and welcome to be there and that is valuable. Who needs cuffing season when you have corporate flirting season?”
