Today, January 28nd, 1717, Sultan Mustafa III was born 👑

During Mustafa III, years of seclusion before his accession, he studied astrology, literature and medicine. As a sultan whom failed to revive the empire, he placed his sole hope with his son Selim III whom educated with care but whom did not become sultan until 1789 💫

Soon after accession to the throne, Mustafa III demonstrated a special care for justice. He took a number of menasures to increase prosperity in Constantinople ( Istanbul ). He regulated coinage, built large grain stores, maintained aqueducts, and established a strict fiscal policy. He traveled frequently and checked whether the laws he had enforced were followed 🩵📃

Mustafa much admired Frederick the Great’s generalship and year 1761 estabilshed a peace Treaty with Prussia. Frederick wanted an alliance against Habsburgs and Mustafa wanted to modernize his state and army. Mustafa III preferred recruiting his officers in Berlin, rather than in Paris and London, to re-organize his army. In 1763, the two countries exchanged their diplomats for the first time 🖊️💫

Sultan Mustafa III followed a cautious policy at home and abroad. Although all the states wanted the Ottomans to join the war on their side in the 7 years war that took place in Europe between 1756 to 1763, he refused any alliance 🗡️✨🩵

Mustafa III’s reign which lasted until 1774, saw the Ottoman Empire face tremendous problems and embark on great projects. The persistence of military battles was a defining element of Mustafa III’s tenure. The empire was involved in a number of confrontations with European nations, the most notable of which was 🇷🇺 – 🇹🇷 War, year 1768 to 1774 🗡️

Mustafa III wanted to solve administrative concerns inside the empire in addition to military matters. During his reign, there was also a blooming of culture and intelligence. His court attracted poets, academics and painters and it was a hub of creature and intellectual activity 🎨

Despite these efforts, Mustafa III’s reign also faced ongoing challenges, including financial constraints and internal factionalism. The empire continued to grapple with complex geopolitical dynamics, both within its borders and on the international stage 👑🩵
