“I understand not wanting your food to come served with certain things but please don’t make this happen by telling me you’re allergic. I once served someone who ordered their food and told me they were allergic to parsley. So, I checked every ingredient to ensure parsley wasn’t in anything they were served, and I had the kitchen make a special batch of the house bread without parsley and had told the table the the bread is being made but it may take about 10 minutes because we were making a special batch fresh and without parsley.”

“She waited until I wasn’t around and asked the first person she saw for a batch of bread that was already ready and started digging in. I told her that it has her allergen in it and she said, ‘Well, I’m only allergic to it when it’s sprinkled on my pasta’ If she had simply told me that she didn’t want it garnished or added to her pasta, it would have saved quite a bit of time, is an easy modifier, and would have not been an issue for anyone involved.” —stellarniki
